I disagree, he is a difference maker when healthy. And I was against the trade to begin with.
Somebody needs to enforce the peace or teams will be running our skill players.
The only comparable player we have is Yogan and he is 2+ years away.

But he wasn't healthy. And he wasn't a difference maker. So I'm not sure how that qualifies as a good trade. It wasn't a good trade before hindsight and even worse with hindsight.

Sure for 3 year at 3M, I'll take him and keep the 2nd, but he will be looking for a big payday.

That's a slippery slope though. Do we sign Clowe simply because he's the best option available to fill a particular need? We've done that before and it hasn't worked out.

Sometimes teams have to accept that it's better to live with a problem if the right solution doesn't present itself. At this point, I'm not convinced that Clowe is the right solution.

i liked the Clowe signing. I don't remember reading that he had a concussion with SJ PRIOR to coming to NY. Was that the reason for his poor play last year?

Unless he's willing to prove himself and his health I can't see giving this guy more than 1-2yrs.

I like the player, but he might be damaged good at this point.

clarkson has never hit 50 points. clowe has broken 60 and had 3 40+ point seasons despite only playing one full season in his career.

Hockey is not all about points. Here is an article on Clowe's struggles away from stud centers like Couture and Pavelski. Pretty bad. Meanwhile, Clarkson brings a lot more than his higher hit totals, more PIMs lately and better track record of goal scoring.

You need to draft players like Clowe. Not trade for them when they could very well be done.

Do you think that will change given his age and recent injury problems?

Clarkson will be overpaid. Clowe is damaged goods. I don't think it would be smart to sign either one.

Still a better hockey player than Ryane Clowe.
You can't say that with a straight face, Clarckson was hot and tailed off at the end of the season.

Given the fact that he is willing to sign for a discount, he has a skillset the team needs and assuming he is healthy, you can't tell me he shouldn't be signed. And you haven't provided one name that will provide a better value.

I haven't seen one name that will be a better value than Clowe. If he is not healthy and wants anything more than 3 year/3M, then I'll go find that value somewhere else.

yay more penalties. and what track record of goal scoring? he had one breakout year.

Clarkson has been 'hot' and 'tailed off' for two seasons now. Both seasons he's been on pace to hit 30g the past two seasons. One player is trending up, the other's goal scoring has severely declined.

No I'd much rather have no Ryane Clowe on the roster with the lowered cap and his constant injury pileup. I wouldn't take him at 3mil either. Damaged goods are damaged. I'd also much rather have the conditional pick than fork it over for him. That pick is more valuable asset than Clowe.

you attack clowe for playing with pavelski and couture. clarkson hasnt exactly played with scrubs over the past few years either. elias parise kovalchuk henrique zajac are all good players. i doubt clarkson hits 30 goals without them.

Clowe had more PIMs because he had 6 fighting majors. He didn't have one breakout year, he was on pace for 30g again this season.
