Very unimpressed with him. And I used to love him a couple years ago, what happened the the compete. I group him with Marner as two guys who are just not big game players and 4 nations has just furthered my point on the two of them. Both go invisible when the going gets tough. Should’ve kept Miller

I really, really hope Yzerman goes hard after him. He's the perfect candidate for a guy that doesn't do well with the spotlight on him, but would flourish under the right setting with a close-knit locker room.

In Detroit, Larkin is the de facto leader, Seider is next up, Raymond is outspoken too, and Pettersson will have zero pressure to be that guy. I really think it would be a perfect situation for him.

I wonder if teams going forward are going to be scared of Europeans like Laine and Pettersson, two obviously very talented offensive players that don’t have the mental fortitude to make it when the going gets tough.

Like Juraj Slafkovsly said: You have to play like Brady Tkachuk to succeed in the NHL.

I don't see Pettersson bouncing back with Vancouver.

Either he doesn't bounce back at all, or he gets traded and bounces back.

So the Canucks should absolutely trade him before his NTC kicks in, since I doubt they're going to get much more out of them than they are now.

no they shouldn’t. Even if he stays at that 80-90 point range, his contract is going to be average in a couple seasons with the projected cap increases. You don’t make a knee jerk reaction and sell on a guy who has the pedigree he does.

Stays at an 80-90 point range?

He's on a 56 point pace this season.

In the playoffs he played at a 37 point pace.

90 points is a pipe dream for Pettersson at this point.

He’s also hurt and still tending to his knee injury, which he was seen wrapping and icing still during this tournament. Wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up getting surgery

Double up or quit

Sell if you can get a good price for him, but at this point theyre probably better off betting on that he improves his play to keep him or sell him off when he has a higher trade value because its pretty damn low right now.

As of right now I owe Marner an apology (along with Bennett maybe even Binnington lol) but Pettersson still sucks and needs to show up sometime or the nucks are in trouble with what they have right now

...Rutherford painted himself into a corner...hope Petey improves is all they can do in Vancouver; selling Pettersson now with his value in the shytter isn't vialbe, especially if they want Hughes to stay...

this is unecessarily pessimistic. 90+ future is still likely. He was generating offense based on his cerebral play, not because of a physical attribute that can diminish after injury. Everything starts and ends with his confidence, he has none because his body mechanics is all messed up, he didnt train in the off season well, he is a mess this year because of raised expectations. End of the day, he was a sublimely naturally gifted hockey player, you cant sell him at 26 at the lowest ebb of his career. Look at Tage, look at Huberdeau even, these guys will bounce back.

keep him, I would put money down he gets back to himself once hes traded,
Id atleast give him most of next season before I decide to sell low on him

This guy is brutal. After the Miller trade he said he wants the pressure. Now he’s still playing bad and says he hates the media lol.
the media should f*** off when players are doing bad. questioning him on it night in night out likely isnt going to help. just creates more pressure. the media is a cancer, they never help or even talk about things that are important. its only negative.

when Im playing an online competitive match and Im off to a terrible start, that alone makes it harder to get going. when u got teammates/media pressuring you non-stop things dont normally turn around often. Im sure EP will figure it out but wont be easy depending how much of a hard time fans/media gives him
