Girardi is our third best defenseman (1.McDonagh 2. Staal) but good right sided guys are really hard to find. There's almost no top 4 right siders in this UFA season. He's just about irreplaceable because of that.

I think having Stepan, Brassard, Bolland, and Lapierre/Boyle would be a pretty solid group IF Stepan or Brassard can be a number one. Bolland is a perfect 3rd line center, and either Boyle or Lapierre would be a good 4th line center.
Just because we want to open up our offense doesn't mean there's no need to keep a guy like Boyle. We still need guys to forecheck, kill penalties, block shots, play defense, win face offs and retrieve pucks in dirty areas. Boyle can still do that quite well. One can only hope that our injury-free lineup includes him on the 4th line and out of must score situations. Ideally Brian Boyle is playing no more than 12 minutes a game. That being said I believe he's still a valuable asset for us, both on the ice and off. No need to make lateral moves with him.

Can Kreider turn into the top 6 LW that everyone expected from him? That would help, and we will find out in a few months. Having Clowe, Kreider, Hagelin on your left side can potentially be solid, if Kreider can handle it. Obviously we have Nash, Callahan, and Dorsett on the RW. If Miller can handle the role he could be a 3rd line RW. This is my final line up post and the one I would like the most. Two scoring lines, defensive line, energy/checking line:

And you guys, laugh all you want now, but I have been eventually proven correct about various things for which you guys gave me grief at the time.
Miller will be seriously improved, one year bigger and stronger and no less speedy. Whether he is solid at 3C, or can cut it at 2C, will remain to be seen, same with Lindberg. But outside of nominal growing pains, I don't agree it's a huge problem [if of course we have the counterplay in return of upgrading our D].
And even if I'm wrong enough on this, we still have options: half hearted but good temporary move to get Weiss 1-2 yr deal. If necessary and cheap enough, maybe Bolland.

Lecavalier is a children of the trapping era. He was like 15 when NJD won their first Cup, and 26 when the redline was removed. I know I made some posts on him when he was the highest scoring player in the league where I was teared apart by Tampa fans but that was pretty spot on.
In short, to be elite nowadays you need to be able to fetch the puck deep in your own end and get up ice. If you can't do that, you can be shut down.
Lecavalier played all important years in an era where it cost you dearly to loose the puck in the neutral zone, and players could slash and hook you. He is very avg at skating the puck up ice.
At the top of his career, Lecavalier was easily as good as say Malkin -- once in the attacking zone. He got a long reach and had golden hands. He had an awesome shot. He was an awesome passer. But after the lockout, he could just be shut down if teams focused on him. If you get the puck deep on him, he isn't a threat and hasn't been after the lockout.
He just seems a bit stiff nowadays. Maybe he doesn't have that spark like a Sundin or Jagr and co had that pushed them to constantly reinvent their game.
But he is still a very solid center. He has helped Stamkos a ton (who is not a center BTW).

And why the hell would Weiss sign a 1-2 year deal when teams are desperate for center help this offseason?

If you put Steven with a guy like Patty Kane, MSL, Zuccarello, etc. he should be fine at center.
I believe Brassard was also above 50% could be wrong though. Stepan definitely needs work.
I guarantee you - the guys who want to see Boyle moved for scraps are going to be begging Sather for a big, defensive center who can grow with our core and is an ace on faceoffs.
Shiny new toy syndrome. Boyle's not shiny any more. But Lapierre's shiny!!111. Let's get him.

Brassard was overachieving. His career average is mediocre, under 50% I believe, and Columbus had Umberger taking FOs for him when they were on the same line.

Why would HE sign a 1-2 year deal. teams will definitely offer long term deals.
A lot of players have been affected by the rules implemented over the last few years. Vinny is an excellent example of this. Redden was another victim of someone who wasn't able to adapt to speed and flow of the new NHL.
Fast, quicker, more agile. It's a game that's rewarding speed and technique over strength and muscle.
I don't think a new team, coach, or atmosphere is going to help Vinny find his old game. That's long gone. But you're right, he still is a good player who can help a team win.

If they can get bolland for Boyle and a pick u do it, have Stepan, brassard, bolland and a cheap 4th line ufa pk face off guy. Like halpern but younger
