I agree with you Ola, but I'm not sure exactly how Nash fits as an AV kind of player. He creates most of his offense off the rush. The Sedins were good at cycling and creating scoring chances. Nash isn't too great at that, just look at him on the PP. His offense comes from hauling the puck to the net with speed.

Staal and Kreider for Skinner and McBain? dont think Staal is quite fair value enough for Skinner on his own. plus Rangers would have Skinner and Hagelin as the 1/2LW. underpayment? overpayment? fair value?

That would be awful for the Rangers. Like, really, really bad.

I forgot kreider is the be all end all on here.

No, but the fact that you think we need to add to a top pairing defenseman on a bargain of a contract to get a winger coming off a terrible season who is getting paid nearly 6 mil for the next 6-7 years is terrible.

Pretty much.

The Rangers wouldn't be adding their top prospect in a Staal/Skinner deal.

Staal on his own is more than enough value to land Skinner. Adding our top prospect just to get McBain is a bad move no matter how you slice it. The "Kreider fan boy" thing isn't even relevant.

Skinner, while coming off a bad year, is five years younger than Staal. We have an opportunity to get a nice goal scorer before he fully rounds out. He has 40 goal potential, but is now on a team with a lot of good forwards.

Of course, the trade makes too much sense. I would love it if Sather was somehow able to get Skinner and the 5th pick, but that seems unreasonable.

That would be pretty unbelievable.

I'll put aside my personal dislike for Skinner to say that from a hockey standpoint he is exactly what the Rangers should be looking for if they are forced to move Staal. And I would only get behind moving Staal if they were forced to do so.

I refreshed my memory a bit with some Skinner YT clips. Aside from the obvious (finishing) it is impressive how well Skinner rags the puck around the offensive zone. When on he is a man possessed with the puck. Which is a skill the Rangers definitely need.

The more I watched, I also realized that in those instances where Skinner is working the puck like a mad man...his head is down the majority of the time if not all of the time. And not just down, Lindros style buried in his skates. Which (in addition to his height) explains the 3 (NHL) concussions. Factor in his contract and that sounds like a really big risk to me.

Was thinking this as well (more like day dreaming haha). We'd certainly have to add a + if we wanted both. Then I continue to let my mind wander and we end up trading both those pieces for 2nd overall and draft Mackinnon/Drouin/Jones. Ohhhhhhh man haha.

overpayment. if we are throwing kreider in with staal i would want more than just skinner and mcbain. i like faulk a lot but i think it would be tough to pry him from them. i would do staal and kreider for skinner mcbain murphy and a 4th round pick. i would also do skinner, murphy and the #5 overall. i dont know if carolina would do that but i dont exactly want to give up a #1 dman on a cheap contract and a top prospect for skinner and mcbain.

absolutely horrible trade.

hagelin-stepan-nash. skinner-brassard-callahan. kreider-richards/3c-zucc. pyatt-boyle-dorsett. that's depth and scoring talent.

I love Kreider, he's my favorite ranger.

But I would do Staal+CK for Skinner+ Faulk

Faulk is a RHD and franchise dman IMO. Younger than Staal too.

And There is a chance Staal leaves in 2 years anyways.

--------------------------

Skinner had a terrific rookie season and never really was as good since.

I think a change of scenery will do him good.35+ goal potential if he stays healthy.

Concussions are a concern but Staal is also injured a lot (by chance or not).

Personally, I don't even think CAR would consider this offer.
