Miller made me sad the time he was with the team.

The potential is obviously there though. The time will come

Who knows, we could see Kreider, Miller, Lindberg all start the season in Hartford. And then we can watch Sather overpay Horton, Bickell, etc..

not if we keep Richards, we couldnt afford to overpay anyone else after signing our RFAs

If MZA isn't in the top six why have him around?

I don't think Miller has proven he is ready, I think he's proven that he deserves a shot out of camp and I expect him to get one. Really interested in seeing Fasth and Lindberg.

Zuccarello is very effective on the 3rd line, provided there are big bodies there with him. I think, personally, we need to get out of this mindset that skill should only play in the top-6. If we're going to play a style that promotes defense the way our roster dictates we should, we need to have creativity throughout the top-9.

Zuccarello is better on the 3rd line than he used to be, not going to say he is super effective. I have no issue with having MZA on the team but it would be my hope he can play in the top six, while guys like Miller fill in on the 3rd.

If they revamp the bottom line I will be happy. Asham, Powe and Pyatt are not what a contending team needs in the bottom 6 at this point in their careers.

Go get younger, hungrier, more abrasive players. Pot stirrers. Nystrom, McLeod, Larose types.

They need to commit to being a younger team and living with Kreider/Hrivik and Lindberg/Miller in the lineup every night. It will pay off in the long run.

They need to get back to being a much harder team to play against. That wins games and allows the team to gel. Dorsett will help but he needs help.

The more I think about it, the more I think this team will be fine with the same forward core in the top 9 and keeping Richards for another season to see if he can rebound. He has to stay healthy though, and we need to pray he can avoid injury.

Clowe at 2 years 3.75 MAX anything else he walks.

Sign Nystrom

Bring in Douglas Murray for snarl on the blue line IF and ONLY IF we are trading DZ for a winger.

Go with this lineup

Hagelin Stepan Nash
Kreider Brassard Callahan
Clowe Richards Zuccarello
Nystrom Boyle Dorsett
Pyatt, Asham

McDonagh Girardi
Staal Del Z/Murray (if we trade DZ)
Moore Stralman
Eminger

Let the team develop. Buyout Richards in the summer and let Lindberg and Miller succeed him.

Wow. A one-trick pony who sparked out offense as soon as he joined the team?

Yep! Not sure why people still go after Zuccarello for not being effective enough. Yeah he's very undersized but he has become a much better skater and was a lot more effective for us this time around. He's easily a top 9 forward on this. Probably has the best creativity on the team.

Trade DelZotto for Michalek
Trade Boyle+ for Petry
Trade Pyatt/Powe for McLeod+
Sign Nystrom

Michalek Brassard Nash
Kreider Stepan Callahan
Clowe Miller/Lindberg Hagelin
McLeod Nystrom Dorsett

McD Girardi
Staal Petry
Moore Strals

Anything more than 3M per for Clowe is an overpayment as far as I am concerned and I think this team needs him.

Trade DelZotto for Michalek
Trade Boyle+ for Petry
Trade Pyatt/Powe for McLeod+
Sign Nystrom

Michalek Brassard Nash
Kreider Stepan Callahan
Clowe Miller/Lindberg Hagelin
McLeod Nystrom Dorsett

McD Girardi
Staal Petry
Moore Strals

Not a chance. Michalek has chronic knee problems. Not good when speed is his best asset.

I love ho everyone was clamoring for Zuccarello before he made the team, but after he's come on and been effective, apparently he's supposed to just be gotten rid of.

This board literally makes no sense.

Literally.

I was one of the people who wasn't enthused about him. I still don't know whether he can sustain being effective for a full year. That being said, he played well enough that I, one of his biggest skeptics, feel he earned a contract with us for next season.

Also, not that they wouldn't have done what was asked of them, but besides he and Kreider, is there anyone happier that Tortorella is gone?

I love these trade proposals. I love the complete overhaul some of you ask for. Was that not the problem this past year? Too much turnover. You need consistency. It's one thing to sign free agents and add them to what you have, its totally different thing to ship multiple players out every offseason.

Ok so I diagrammed the roster spots into roles that guys can fill so that this gives the Rangers match up options that the team will need. I also took depth into consideration, and am guessing AV will rotate the forwards based on need, and chemistry. Thus far I think the Rangers are a few tweaks away from having the depth of a CHI and BOS and having guys that can fill their roles well.

To help in the possession game, the centers need to be good on draws, and it helps to have multiple guys that can win face-offs so guys aren't caught out there sucking wind and having to take draws.

Keeping in mind that injuries are a part of the game, and kids need playing time as well a seasoned set of black aces should be kept around, this way guys can take a night off if they are banged up.

Hagelin Stepan Callahan [Hagelin-Stepan-Nash][Hagelin Brassard Nash]

Kreider Brassard Nash [Kreider-Stepan-Callahan][Clowe-Richards-Nash]

Clowe Richards Zuc [Miller-Richards-Clowe][Kreider Brassard Zuc][Clowe-Richards-Boyle]

Boyle Gordon Dorsett [Boyle Powe Dorsett] [Powe Boyle Dorsett]

Powe

Out of those players: Step & Cally play the PP, PK, and Even strength against top two lines, d-zone starts.

Richards, Clowe, Zuc/Miller/Fast/Lindberg/Hrivik: Play Ev ST against third line competition, favorable zone starts.

4th line alternates checking roles vs opposition second line and 4th line depending on match ups., vs. teams with bigger slower frontlines the 4th line gets the job, vs faster quicker teams, the second line gets the draw with Nash consistently double shifting.

Nash, Richards, Clowe, Zuc, Kreider, Step, Callahan, Brassard, and Hagelin: play on PP

Boyle, Step, Callahan, Dorsett, Gordon, Powe, and Kreider: kill penalties, with Kreider getting sheltered pk time with leads... hope is he turns into a Grabneresque PK threat with the breakaways.

Faceoffs: Stepan & Gordon are RH draws and can be counted on in the Dzone, and PK, w Boyle and Powe doing the same as LH draws.

Richards and Brassards get Ozone starts, and PP draws as lefties, and both have won draws in the dzone, so it should be an advantage.

Rangers have 3 LH faceoff draws, and two RH ones, with reliable options defensively.

Now this brings me to the wild card slot of third line wing: injuries, and matchups can play a role, and I expect Zucc to end up as a Gerbe type player for the Rangers, and guys will be in and out of the line up.

I expect the fourth line to be very stable, unless there are injuries.

Over all this team will have a lot of size and depth if the cards fall into place.

Clowe wanted $34M over 8 years from San Jose. His agent reportedly agreed to 8 years/$30M with the Flyers at the trading deadline but Philly couldn't complete a trade with SJ. $4.25M AAV and $3.75M AAV. Unless the market for Clowe has completely bottomed out, some team will pay him.

Why would Colorado trade McLeod+ for Pyatt/Powe+? McLeod showed some goal scoring ability towards the end of the year and Pyatt/Powe hold no value. We are not going to get anything beyond a contract and a 5th for either player at best.

We cannot afford to field the teams some of you post.

Our best bet is to buyout Richards and let Clowe walk.

I would be open to dealing one of Girardi or MDZ, but for a top prospect, a top 15 pick, and a roster player. Not for Milan Michalek.

We have to re-sign 3 players that will cost us $10M at least this season and next year, Brassard (assuming he finds his game, could cost $5M+), Callahan, Lundqvist, and Girardi are UFA. Bringing in players like Murray and Clowe and Michalek is just not prudent.

We can face facts that one of our top 4 D will not be back for 2014-15. We have to think of next year as well when making moves this summer, that's why buying out Richards, playing Miller as 3C, signing depth to 1 year contracts, and bringing in one, cheaper type 3rd liner is about all we SHOULD do. Someone like Stalberg or Raymond.

Because EA Sports has done a wonderful job of deluding teenagers into thinking that they can make trades that are convenient for one team and counter-productive for the other.

I went to their board and asked what they needed. The consensus was they would take Pyatt or Powe + Bourque for McLeod + 5th as they don't see the point of having newly re-signed Bordeleau and McLeod in the same line-up.

I would seriously think about Clowe @ 3.75 for a few years.
