I think you need to have the new coach evaluate what he has. The last time this core played a full season they were the #1 seed in the East. And with Torts: tell me a coach in this league that controls the way his team plays through his system more than Torts. The new style of play with be undoubtedly more open and reliant on creativity.

Whoever we wind up hiring; unless you get an absolute slam-dunk offer, let the new coach see what he's working with and leave the personnel decision to be made after he figures out who can/can't fit with the way the team is going to play.

Seriously, in retrospect, they really put up a nice fight against the Bruins. The unfettered shots from the point is what did them in. The new coach is not going to allow the D to constantly collapse like that.

I just wanted to remind everyone of something...

In Tampa, Torts ran a very offensive system. When he came here, his system was still offensive.

Then he realized who he was working with and that the team had little to no potency in the offensive end and used a system to compliment his players.

I don't care what people say, NYR is not built for run and gun or even an offensively inclined system.

We WILL crash and burn when that happens.

Hank, no matter how good he is, will be more pressured and therefore give up more goals.

I still believe Torts time was up, but everyone bashing him for the system and how it hinders offensive ability needs to stop. This isn't aimed at you per say but everyone.

He ran this system because WE HAVE 0 FIREPOWER OFFENSIVELY. Nash is the closest thing we have and he is a complementary player on a contender.

Do I believe his system had flaws? Of course, every system does.

Was it boring? Sure, but it gave us our best chance of winning.

I don't even like Torts but this unreasonable hate needs to stop.

since AV might become the head coach, maybe he might try for some of his former players.. i wont be shocked if Sather tried for Shane O'Brien from the Avs.

O'Brien and McLeod to NYR for Powe Bourque, 4th 2014

I can see no reason why the Avs would do this, but you never know.

Just my hunch, but of all the players Boyle was Torts pet. AV needs some kind of break from Torts, and Boyle is the perfect candidate IMO.

The salary cap for 13-14 is at exactly the same level it was for 11-12. It will more than likely go up by a couple of million for 14-15. All that talk about how they need to bring salary costs down, and it will never have gone below where it was when they were too high. Smoke and mirrors.

just wondering...so the accomplishment of the lockout was essentially to roll back salaries two years? i assume there's more to it, but is that the basic upshot? i never really thought about the final agreement at the time. was just happy they had made a deal and hockey was coming back. i figured the players had given up more.

i remember that too. but i think that once he turned away from that, he went a bit off the rails. there are plenty of gifted athletes on the rangers. of course, it's just a fans opinion, but i would like to see them try something different.

Its not just a fan's opinion, though. Its a true statement. There is talent on this roster. They were castrated by Tortorella. Also, the roster may not look the same in October.

Umm pet? Some journalists said Boyle was one of the guys Tortorella accosted the most. Richards and DZ being the others.

Little back story couple weeks ago former habs enforcer Chris Nilan was on a Montreal Radio station and said that he and Clarkson are friends and that David Clarkson to Toronto was a "Done Deal" and that Clarkson would be a Maple Leaf next season.

Recently Howard Burger tweeted that Toronto is interested in acquiring the rights to David Clarkson. I hope this happens Clarkson would bring an element we haven't had since the Darcy Tucker days. Do you think this happens?

Devils fans what would you want? 5th?

Rumor about Clarkson heading to Toronto.

Ugh, now the Rangers for sure will do something stupid and sign a broken down Clowe for 4-5 yrs or something.

I don't want Clowe, I don't want Clarkson, I don't want Bickell. Everyone is always looking for that mythical powerforward that doesn't really exist, and the Clowes, Clarksons, and Bickells are going to get extremely overpaid. Look at Milan Lucic who is probably the prime PWF in the league. Lucic while good, is nothing more than a complimentary player and he gets $6M/year on a hometown contract.

Get MacArthur, or maybe Stålberg, but I think all Chicago UFAs will get extra overpaid this offseason.

If AV is signed, look for Mason Raymond and Max Lapierre to be rumored to the Rangers.

Raymond is OK I guess, but he has never put up the possession numbers that could be expected of a guy with his wheels.

Stålberg has stone hands, but is still a good possession player, why hasn't Raymond been one?

So we have great goaltending, solid defense and average at best offense. And Tort's solution was to play a defensive system? How does that make sense? Shouldn't he have played a more aggressive system to maximize our offense and count on our defense and goaltending to do their job? Why did we need to collapse into the middle of the defensive zone when we have the best goaltender in the world?

Tort's system is the reason we had absolutely no transition game.

Because Clarkson would have been a good signing?

The guy's hot streak ended and he scored 5 goals in his last 34 games. The guy's barely a 30 point player.

I think Kreider can be that player. The more comfortable he gets out there, the more he'll start throwing his body around.

So with us having the best goaltender in the world, why were we forced to try to dive and block every shot? Why did we play a 6 goalie system? It was no wonder we couldn't clear our own zone and our breakout sucked under him. The whole team was either on the ice from trying to block a shot or caught too low for the possessing player to have anyone to pass to

What the **** is this, As The World Turns? Alain Vigneault is not going to dispose of a player simply because he thinks it makes some sort of metaphoric disconnect from Tortorella. And furthermore, Glen Sather is not going to dispose of a player simply for that purpose.

Yep. It was basically what a bunch of us suggested last year. Freeze the cap, let the revenue catch up at a certain percentage.
