there is no way we can get yakupov by giving del zotto. even if we want eberle we will need to give up a lot with mdz. they are going to ask for mac and there is no way we do that

We always worry what the other team asks for, we never ask and let the other team worry. Why is that?

Eberle is a borderline PPG player at a young age, so I don't know why people think he would be easier to get. Look at the return on the Kessel trade, maybe a bit more considering the circumstances, and that's what you're looking at.

Eberle's breakout season had him shooting at a very high, unsustainable percentage.

yeah i agree he is more proven to me and it will take a big package to get him if we start with mdz

The issue with Clowe is SJ allowed his agent Kent Hughes permission to speak with other teams about getting a new contract signed as part of the trade. Clowe's hometown paper reported the Flyers were going to acquire Clowe and give him the money. Reportedly,Clowe wants $34M over 8 years. There was a tweet from a Newfoundland sports writer about Philly and Hughes working out an 8 year deal worth $30M. $3.75M. Clowe needed to on the roster by the trading deadline to get a MAX contract. Philly can give him a 7 year deal in free agency which is more than the Rangers will give him if they want to sign him. The Sharks and Flyers couldn't work out a trade.

Hughes has an idea how much money certain teams are willing to pay his client.

The Rangers should trade Clowe's rights for a pick.

Everyone ignore that source, they know about as much of Clowe's plans as me or you. If anythine Clowe joins Cleary in Det, or him and Ryder end up with you guys

The Kessel trade was for all draft picks. All futures. Nobody knew at the time Boston would be receiving a top-2 pick. In addition, Eberle just came off a sub-par year (similar to MDZ)

Michael Del Zotto is a 22-year-old (soon to be 23, same as Eberle) defensemen who topped forty points as a 21-year-old while finishing 12th in Norris voting. He's not chopped liver by any stretch. Young defensemen are arguably worth more than young forwards.

I think we're underrating MDZ here. It's easy to say he sucks when we have McD, Staal, and Dan Girardi, arguably three of the best defensive-defensemen in the league in front of him, but he's a great d-man, and he would fetch a hefty sum if traded.

My bottom line is I am getting equal value for DZ, if I can't get it, i will slot him or Moore in the 2nd pairing RD and roll with it.
I am not selling DZ at a discount.

Alex Goligoski returned Matt Niskanen and James Neal. Puck moving D-men seem to bring big returns and Sather is pretty good in the trade department. Just sayin'.

figured I'd post this here as opposed to creating a new thread.

If Roman Josi gets 4 per over 7 years, what does that mean for McDonagh?

OUCH

I think everyone agrees with you

Agreed

Or, what does that show about the value of good, young d-men in the league?

If they give him a deal like that, they'd be buying 3 UFA years. That's why the average is as high as it is. It could end up being a steal in a couple years. McD will get similar money per year, but for less years.

I'd hope we get him on a good contract for a good amount of years. Could be a steal like you said, and to have him playing at a great level for that price.

Eberle's career 14% is far from unsustainable. His 18% that season isn't necessarily an enigma either; Stamkos has shot 19.8 and 18.5 the last two years; a lot of having a good shooting percentage is about being a power play guy and not a penalty kill guy; one look at a goaltender's stats will tell you that.

McDonagh

Not to troll I'm a Devils fan but come in peace just love talking hockey.... From reading I think you guys are completely off on Ryan McDonagh. I dont see him signing for anything less than 4.75 and that would be for 1-2 years. I personally know the devils would offer him 5+ easy if he were to get to UFA. I see some people suggesting he will get close to Josi, thats crazy McDonagh is a top 10 Dman in this league already and can dominate a game/season offensively or defensively to his liking. Just my two cents.

It's tough for players who don't produce a lot offensively to get big bucks. Staal and Girardi were big time for us for many years and neither got over 4 million per on a long term deal.

If we offered McDonagh 7 years, I think the number would be around 31 million. Just my speculation.

Don't think McDonagh can dominate a game offensively like Josi, but defensively I think he has him beat for sure.

Let's be reminded that Josi is no slouch, he was a top pair defender for the Preds this past season. He was also the best defenseman in the WCs (short tourney though) for a unestablished Swiss roster.
