I believe Chicago has (2) forwards on their roster below 6'0. Shaw, who plays much larger than he is, and Kane.

Agree on Shaw. I don't buy that Sharp is 6'0". Do guys like Frolik and Stalberg really use their size? I don't know. Just didn't seem like a team that was overly physical. The reason Chicago struggled in the early part of the series is, much like Pitt, they tried to play Boston's style of game--physical. Chicago is/was much more of a speed/skill team.

Of course they are. But they are also a good sized team who can skate well.

Brooks is right, although he could've gone either way attacking the Rangers top end talent at forward or their size/depth on the lower lines.

The bottom 6 forwards might have some tall people, but they dont particularly utilize their size. Its really a wasteland down there with no identity whatsoever.

That's the rub. These are big guys who can skate. Guys who can move around in all three zones. And we are talking about guys who use this size with respect to playing along the boards and below the face-off dots. Not big, lumbering guys who are too slow. I know Clowe is skilled but his skating is passable. That's putting his contract demands aside.

So, who should we be targeting then? Who are guys that are available with size who can skate? Burmistrov is over 6'0". Internally, I believe Lindberg is or may be.

Mason Raymond. Brian Bickell. Victor Stalberg. Eric Nystrom.

Those guys can skate and have good size.

Arron Asham. Taylor Pyatt.

Not so much.

Kreider, Hagelin, Callahan, Nash and MZA are all good skaters on the wings. Unfortunately, only Nash and Kreider have good size.

My goal for this off-season would be to bring in some guys for the bottom-6 who can grind on other teams, skate well, provide some size, and are multi-dimensional in terms of being able to PK or fight, etc.

I don't see, outside of a significant trade, a can't miss option with size for the top-6.

I'm not impressed by someone analyzing a different team that won the Cup and applying their team's makeup to someone else's. If we've learned anything since the 04-05 lockout, it's that any makeup of team, with sufficient talent, can win the Cup. Were the Red Wings big in 08? Were the Penguins big in 09? I'm not saying we have the skill level of those two teams, right now. What I'm saying is that it's a false argument on Brooks' part.

Nash has size but rarely hits, plays physical or screens the goalie. he does not use it that much... throw Maxim Lapierre and Kyle Chipurcha (SP) to those UFA that has size and uses it. i bet Lapierre is part of the Rangers before end of August. AV played this guy on average 12 mins a night and 7th amongst forwards in ice time.. kills penalties and also adds speed.. would be a big upgrade over Powe.. brings more offense.. i bet Lapierre is signed early in the offseason..

Zuccarello plays bigger than Stalberg.

He's got a lot of heart and is a hard worker (aside from his obvious talent with the puck). Which I truly respect. But at the end of the day that ain't always enough to win battles in the POs when the whistles go away and EVERY player is going all out.

Not saying Stalberg is the answer either. But I see a ton of posts about Zuke having heart. That's one component, one I really appreciate, but it's still not the be all end all.

No he doesn't. Zuccarello is relatively physical for his size. But he is not as physical as Stalberg. And I don't like Stalberg.

He really isn't. He's fast. That's about it. Doesn't use his size whatsoever. Have less than zero interest in him. Would nuch rather have Bickell.

well if you classify the top 6 as Nash, Callahan, Stepan, Brassard, Kreider/Zuc and X(Clowe for example or another UFA)

Hagelin is a perfect 3rd liner. People crap on Boyle but he is a typical bottom 6 guy. Dorsett brings energy. one of Kreider or Zuccarello fills the other spot.

After that Pyatt, Powe and Asham are blah. They are all UFA at seaons end so if they want to move one or more out I bet they can. I move Pyatt, maybe Torts would want him in Vancouver for his board work? I could see a Rangers / Canucks deal at some pt

Lapierre makes alot of sense to me on a line with Dorsett. They would drive teams nuts. Likely one of Powe / Asham plays on that line and the other is the spare.

imagine Haley/Asham Lapierre and Dorsett vs Devils or Flyers.. that would be fun to watch.. i hope Powe gets dealt. he doesnt bring much other than speed....

With the Vancouver connection, I can see Lapierre and Raymond both being signed. Both would be pretty solid additions to the bottom 6 and Raymond can actually score a bit.

I personally think Boyle will be gone. He isn't a Vingeault type player, and a guy like Lapierre would really make him not needed.

Also, do you guys think Clowe will be back? or we will be looking into Stalberg or Bickell instead?

I probably have less than that is it is possible. But he isn't soft. He makes hits and just by shear size and speed his hits are more effective.

This is really a moot point, considering I am not advocating for Stalberg.

Lapierre only makes sense if Boyle is moved. Many people hate him, but he is an effective player.

Raymond makes some sense but if they expect to have only Dorsett in the line-up who can drop the gloves, it will be a long season.

There's a pretty marked lack of toughness in the UFA market this year, among forwards. Clarkson, Hendricks, Nystrom, Lapierre, Chipchura.

Well, and Ryane Clowe...

Clarkson and Clowe are the only two who are more than 4th liners.

If Malone is bought out, he is an option.

I've always been a big fan of Pittsburgh's own Ryan Malone. I have the same concerns with him that I have with Clowe, which is that their bodies are breaking down. Malone will be 34 this year. Not sure what we can realistically expect from him.

yea it is a good call. Raymond instead of Clowe for example. I dont think both would be brought in. Bickel makes too much and Stalberg is not the type of guy I think they need.

Raymond could challenge Kreider, Zucc for top 6 time too. Lapierre just makes alot of sense in the division.

Boyle could be gone but I dont think they can count on Lindberg yet so do they not need another C?

I wouldn't hate Hendricks if he was cheap enough. Decent skater, good hitter, center.

one guy who id love and always does well against Rangers is Jason Chimera.. he would add a lot of speed and the Sather connection from the Oilers speaking of Capitals players... maybe Caps try to dump some salary, he could be an option.. Hendricks i wouldnt mind but 2 year deal at most. rather have Lapierre and Raymond who is younger and coach AV knows well

I really dont see Asham going anywhere. Its only one yr left at a million and he did score some playoff goals. he's not useless
