It would be great for them to grab Blum or McBain. High risk RD's who can move the puck.

They need to find a way to add talent and I want to see them formulate a legit identity.

We are not getting a top 10 pick this year. All this talk is like thinking you have a shot with a model. You'll tell yourself sure it can happen but it only ends up in blue balls or a wet dream.

Agreed, I just don't see it.

If anything, they'll get a second rounder for someone like Boyle if they're lucky or like a 6th rounder for a Pyatt for Tootoo or Pyatto for Jussi Jokinnen deal.

Do yourselves a favor and don't go to the trade board unless you feel like getting mad or laughing. It took clicking on one thread to get me so mad that I closed the window and came back here.

I read timeless assumptions like:

- Avs fans think Nathan MacKinnon is like Stamkos and will score 50 goals and "a few more assists" than Stamkos in a normal season

and

-Ryan O'Reilly is a "clear upgrade" at center over Stepan

The problem is that all three of those guys are on bubble or rebuilding teams. It would take overpayment to acquire one of them. We're better off being patient with Yogan or going high risk/reward on a guy in the 3rd round.

What do you think it would take to get Coyle?

Too much. Minnesota must think he's ready for top 6 minutes if they're eager to entertain offers for Clutterbuck. Minny is set up the middle with Koivu and Granlund presumably stepping into 2nd line duties next season, so they'll probably use Coyle on the wing.

As a Rangers fan, I'd want Coyle and their 2014 1st for Del Zotto. Minnesota would probably counter with DZ straight up. Brodin is a nice looking defenseman, but I'd look to add another top 4 defenseman to him, Suter, and Gilbert. If they don't want Del Zotto, they'd want at least a guy like Miller and another good pick or prospect. I really don't want to give that up, as I see Miller and Lindberg as 2/3's of an amazing 3rd line starting in a couple of seasons. Miller is expendable, but only for someone a bit more established.

You know this is one area where I think Sather does a decent job. Coyle, Foligno and Matthias have a chance to be special players. I'd trust in Gorton, Clark and Sather choosing the right one from the three.

So Del Zotto straight up for Coyle is not a good deal in your opinion? Just asking.

At this point and time it's way too risky to trade Del Zotto for a guy that hasn't been on pace for more than 15 goals in a season yet. Coyle scored 8 goals and had 6 assists in 37 games. He has a decent chance to score 20 next season, but trading DZ for him would be too significant of a risk, as we're trading a proven commodity for a player we're hoping Coyle can become.

I see Coyle as a solid 25 goal, 60 point power forward in this league. If he did that this season I'd consider trading Del Zotto for him. He hasn't yet though, and as I said, we'd be trading for Coyle hoping he puts those numbers up when he hasn't yet.

Sather hasn't done a trade like this in the past. He's good at unloading a star player out of favor, i.e. fleecing Gainey for McDonagh, and getting Brassard and Moore for a guy we probably wouldn't be able to afford to bring back next offseason anyway. In his tenure here, I haven't once seen him trade for a burgeoning young star. Straight, even value trades (as they appear at the time), are his MO. Example: Tyutin and Backman for Zherdev and Fritsche. Rozsival for Wolski.

If the Rangers trade Del Zotto, it's going to be for a more established commodity.

Apologies for the double post, but I'd definitely take a flyer on Jon Blum. If the Rangers don't use the pick to trade up into the 2nd round, I'd definitely toss Nashville's 3rd back to him for his rights.

This entire board, Ranger fans included seem to value draft picks no matter the potential or prospects over proven players. How many #1s or top prospects fail? Many

To me, I feel the Rangers believe Miller or Lindberg will easily fill the third center spot behind Stepan and Brassard. I think they would much rather trade Richards than buy him out. The Rangers really don't need a top pick. They don't have room on the roster as it is for all the young talent. Kreider, Miller, Fast, Lindberg, McIlrath and perhaps Thomas all will need open spots soon enough.

The reality is that Kreider didn't play hard enough to start the season. Then after he got it together, Torts tried to ruin his career for no reason at all. Del Zotto was never allowed to what Moore and McDonagh weren't allowed to do. Use their offensive skills and join the rush.

I think the best thing for the Rangers would be to dump a Richards and perhaps Pyatt to the Flames for a Cammelleri. Free up a center spot at the least. I'm pretty sure they can dump Asham to somebody for a late pick.

O'Reilly is a good player but Stepan he is not. Stepan was turning into a premier center during the regular season. He still needs to figure out the playoffs a lot better but Stepan was becoming a star last season.

Other teams fans generally hate NY so they really don't place the correct value on any Rangers player or prospect. Take McIlrath for example. For a guy that big and tough to skate like he does is really rare. If he was on other teams people would be raving about him. Since he's on NY, he stinks. At best he will be a 6th defenseman. You can't listen to it after a point. Just wait until they make the NHL and laugh.

I haven't seen Blum in a while, but what we miss is not a body on D. We haven't had a PPQB in ages. Girardi and Stralman can play 45 good minutes a night. It's not hard to find someone who can play 15 not important minutes.

We must find a PPQB. Why should we have a 15% PP year after year?

if they trade a D is a deal for a F then getting another D makes but otherwise they have a good 6 when healthy, McD,Girardi, Staal, Moore, DZ, Stralman

Is McIlrath close? I imagine he's on target for the yr after next

Is Bickel really going to be on the team? cant believe he signed a 2 yr deal one way

McIlrath is closer than many people here want to let on.

Bickel will not start the season on the team. That ship has sailed.

Finally, you have to have elevating talent such as that owned by Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane to win the Cup, but you also have to have size, and plenty of it.

Which is to say the Rangers aren’t as close as they think.

Nash and Kreider Miller if he makes the team. Boyle, although a number of people here want him gone. Pyatt, although even more people here want him gone. Doesn't look like Clowe will be re-signed.

On back end, we have some big d-men who don't necessarily play overly physical.

Stepan still has more goals than Toews.

So....

Haha. True. Thought the size comment was interesting. Not sure I think of Chicago as overly big. Sure, guys like Bickell and Handzus played important roles but who else is big on that team? Bolland? Seabrook?

Maybe Larry's definition of "big" is different.

I believe Chicago has (2) forwards on their roster below 6'0. Shaw, who plays much larger than he is, and Kane.

It's too bad the Rangers had to use both buyouts on their players as that is a good trade chip. Look to acquire a player who needs to be bought out from a smaller market team and recoup an asset for only dollars.
