Would anyone be willing to take on a bit of a reclamation project like Mason Raymond or Ryan Whitney?

Raymond would fit the system pretty well with his speed. Injuries are a concern with him though.

Whitney can move the puck but his skating is below sub-par (and yes, I wrote that correctly).

What system? Messier's system? ;)

Im not moving mdz unless we get a top lw/rw/c in return for top 6. He's just off a 40+ point +36 just a year ago who is only 22

+1,000,000

seriously......what the hell is wrong with you people, lol. Trade away a player who is only 3 years into the league, who is only 22 years old, who ( at some points hasn't looked amazing ), but can get better as he matures. We trade him away and we make another move that makes the rangers a laughing stock. Here's an idea, let some of our kids grow into their skates for once. We don't get #1 picks who can come into the league and light it up at the age of 20, we have to build a foundation through solid picks and grooming them to play at the NHL level. If DZ is traded, mark my words, he will become a solid NHL'er for another team and we will have some over the hill, dud of a forward that gets waived or shoved down to Hartford in a year or two.

Calm down. No one is advocating trading him for David Steckel.

I just don't see much out there. I like the idea of Clowe coming back and adding Nystrom. Trade a d-man for a good young forward and sign a UFA d-man. I think that would be about it. Let a couple of kids make the team up front and let them battle in camp.

not much out there on the UFA front true. we can sign a bottom six guy via ufa (nystrom), etc.

make a trade for top 6 scorer and or sign another team's amnestied player...

those are enough avenues to fill our needs of 2-3 players.

and Whitney is soft..... your a fan of having soft defense :help: i hope NYR signs a player like Brookbank.... rangers need to have some grit and toughness on defense.. Whitney was booed on the Ducks and Oilers for a reason.. playing smaller than his size.. Tom Poti 2.0...

on Raymond... id take a risk at a 2 year deal.. brings alot of speed which NYR needs but NYR also needs some scoring which he brings that at times...

I agree, I just worry that with the crappy landscape, the secondary player will garner either too much money or too long a term.

I am most definitely not a fan of anything remotely soft anywhere in the line-up. Just a talking point.

Raymond is also a LW.

Are you aware that Raymond is another small forward?

6'0 185lbs. Not huge, but not tiny either.

I think he would be a good addition if other players are getting overpaid and people shy away. Hagelin, Kreider, Raymond and Nystrom on the LW would be a VERY fast left side.

I'm very surprised that he's that big (if he indeed is). Still, he's the exact type of player that Punkrox has an aversion to.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure that would be the fastest left side of all time. You could replace Nystrom with Trevor Kidd and that would still be true.

I actually don't mind the thought of Raymond if it is something like a 2 year contract. If they can't get Clowe, he may be my 2nd choice. Nystrom, for me, is priority #1 which sounds crazy as he is only a depth player, but he is very good for his role.

I just got his height from hockeydb, not the most reliable, but normally pretty close. He has always looked tall and lanky to me.

Here's another couple of names:

Keith Ballard if he is amnestied from Vancouver

David Booth if he is amnestied from Vancouver

Any takers?

Booth won't get amnestied this year as he's injured. Would def take him though.

I'd love Ballard.... or a guy like Ryan Wilson from the Avs.. he is another hitting dman.

I'd love if Ballard comes to NYR and do this...

big no to Booth.

Ballard could be an option if we're moving MDZ/Staal is questionable

I would definitely take Raymond if he's a player who's kind of forgotten about in free agency. There's always players like that. I wouldn't enter a bidding war for him. He's also gotten a few reps at center for the Canucks. He's not great at it (or even good), but I like versatility of any kind.

Yeah, I checked a few places and they all had him at 6' 185. Though it wouldn't be the first instance of a team fudging a players measurements.

Nystrom would be a solid pickup for the depth and would really improve the PK. I'd have no problem with that move.

New line-up:

Trades:

MDZ + Pyatt for Burmistrov + WPG 1st '13

Boyle for Hartikainen + EDM 2nd '13

Asham for 5th '13

Sign:
Nystrom (3 years @ 1.5 million/season)
Clowe (3 years @ 3.75 million/season)
Eminger (1 year @ .8 million)
Scuderi ( 2 years @ 2.75 million/season)
Gordon ( 2 years @ 1.4 million/season)

Line-up:

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Clowe-Brassard-Callahan
Hagelin-Burmistrov-Hartikainen
Nystrom-Gordon-Dorsett
Powe, Haley

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Stralman
Moore-Scuderi
Eminger
3rd line should be 2nd line IMO.

Jim Cerny: Hi Shawn: I do not believe MDZ is untouchable so, sure, the Rangers would listen to offers for a scoring forward. But I'd argue that if the Rangers play a bit more uptempo game offensively next year, MDZ---still only 22 years old---could really benefit. I know he has a ton of detractors out here on this site and in the stands at The Garden, and I know he had a down season and playoff, but I still would like to see him play with the shackles off..
