A thought came thru at lunch, with the cap coming down, what could we fetch with a package of Moore, Brass, and LA's 1st???

I'm not so sure that Brassard will go anywhere now. Sure, for the right deal he could be traded, but really he's been pretty good of late. I think that you could get a good, young player under a good contract for a package of Moore and LA's first rounder.

With the Jackets not playing until Thursday, this has to be hell for the players sitting around and thinking. If the Jackets do add (though I still hope this is an April Fools joke), their cap space is absolutely a positive. They could add a long term piece, but possibly take on an expiring contract that could help their push.

The CBJ are really in an unprecedented position at the trade deadline. How many potential playoff teams have possessed 3 first round picks, with none of them potential lottery picks? It's an incredible position of strength. I would love to use all of these picks, but I think if the right deal comes along, trading one of those firsts is a no-brainer. Getting a legit NHL player, in addition to two other high-end first round prospects would be a coup for Jarmo, IMO.

The best addition IMO would be Bobby Ryan.

Too bad the Ducks are going for it this year. *ho hum* :(

He would match the identity of this team to a "T," probably be great in the locker room, and matches the need we have for a first line winger. Also his age profile matches that of the team's.

I have to laugh at the hand wringing of some people (not you) about whether we should trade a first round pick. If we're trading a first round pick (1) we're getting more than a rental back and (2) it likely will be the King's pick which is potentially a late first round pick anyhow. The odds of Jarmo hitting all 3 first round picks out of the park is slim and the odds that any of the picks will be playing in 1-2 years is slimmer yet. Which means that trading the Kings pick in particular for a player that can have an impact over the next 3 years is a no-brainer given where we sit.

Having draft picks is great, but it is great as much or more for the ability to get an asset that is already quantifiable as opposed to a pig in a poke. Jarmo will still get a chance to spin the wheel with the picks he keeps. The only reason he should have any real concern about trading a pick now is if he thinks there will be a better opportunity to make a trade at the draft.

Still an interesting off-season option. Best thing for us is for Brassard to do well during this stretch run to build his value for a potential Ryan trade. Ducks still seeking a second line center and I don't see Brassard having much of a future in that role here. Brassard's name was mentioned in the OC Register for what it is worth. Not sure they had any insider knowledge or were just throwing it out there.

So long as the pick being shopped is the LA one, I don't have a problem with that at all. In fact, since it's likely not a lottery pick, I would be disappointed to find out if they didn't shop it given that they have a legit shot at a playoff spot.

Was the first thing I thought too upon reading that assessment of a possible Ryan deal. Ducks could go for it and still move him offseason.

Montreal has had interest in D David Savard for a while now. John Moore being a frequent scratch gets ya thinking, too.

Habs fan here. Can you guys give me an insight on that? Who is he, is he an asset you guys would trade, what would it cost us? Thanks !

There's no player out there in more need of a change of scenery. I often scratch my head about how he is (mis)used by the Ducks. I think like JJ that he's a guy who would relish a chance to be "the guy." He's a big power forward type that GM's love but he's also a deceivingly quick skater. Does he still need some work? Yeah, sure. But if someone does what Hitch did with Nash, I think he could blossom.

I know they just signed him to an extension, but I'd be interested in Pacioretty. He could be the 30 goal power forward LW we need. He's young and locked up to a fairly reasonable 6 year deal.

Would they consider something around Brassard and Savard for Pacioretty?

I'm not sure what Savard's value is now. He's been in a bit of a funk for some reason (attitude? conditioning?) and been passed on the depth chart. If any defenseman gets moved, it probably will be Savard. He's likely not impressing the new GM.

He was named CHL defenseman of the Year in 2010 and has all around skills, but with a lot of offensive upside. The problem is his speed (more of quickness than anything), and perhaps looking a little lackadaisical this season. Last season, he played much better and looked like he was developing into a top 4 defenseman.

My guess is he would be traded for a similar prospect, but it really depends on how teams see him. He has a tremendous upside and he's still young.

I think it was Capn who said earlier that "verbal agreements" are worth the paper they're (not) written on.

When asked, Vinny has said "no comment". I honestly had taken that to mean "I have talked with them about it" and either "I didn't get the answer I wanted" or "we decided something I can't tell you about".

I wonder though if the real answer is "I knew it was out the window the moment I heard Howson had been let go".

Not even close to Pacioretty's value. I don't think the Habs have any interest in moving Pacioretty, so unless something rediculous got offered, he'd be off the table.

That, and the Habs are already deep at Centre, and in D prospects.

No way the Habs would move such a significant piece of their roster such as Pacioretty for Brassard and Savard right now.

I don't know what kind of value Savard has right now. If your management is really down on him, and we are high on him than maybe one of our 2nd round picks. Maybe a straight up prospect swap. Something like Greg Pateryn or Ian Schultz? Again, this would all be of course speculative on your management giving up on Savard as an NHL prospect.

He shouldn't cost much. I don't know if we are down on him, but we certainly have the depth to move him. I think it was JD that said the message to Savard was that we needed more from him.
