Yes. Thats encouraging. A great program like UND could really benefit a kid like this.

Hopefully he clicks quickly like Nieves did in Michigan.

Our other two picks are interesting, but Tambellini is our best bet for an NHL player out of our 2013 draft.

Go back and look at that thread. That pick was killed, especially since Jared Staal and Kenny Ryan were passed on.
 
Honestly, this is not what UND hockey fans wanted to see after what happened with JT Miller a couple years back. Really hope the Rangers are happy to let him develop in the NCAA.

Apples an oranges. JT Miller was one of the most NHL-ready players in the draft. Adam Tambellini very clearly is on the opposite spectrum. He'll be spending at the bare minimum 2 seasons with you guys, and very possibly all four years.
 
I dont get all the hatred here.

The rangers have nothing but 3rd and 4th liners in their lineup and prospect pool...with exception of Nash and a few other players. What we clearly need is scoring. You are not going to get scoring by taking Role players in round 3. You can also get role players by trade or as free agents. So clearly it makes sense for NYR to draft for skill, even if some risk is involved.

Rangers took 3 skilled players. In round 3 every player is somewhat of a risk. Only about 20-25% of 3rd round players even have an NHL career:

So if you are already taking a risk since you are in round 3, and you need skill, go for the most skilled players! Thats what we did.

Or do you guys want to go back to us drafting more Defensive dmen like McIlrath when we dont need them?

By the way, out of the 3 3rd round picks, Tambellini is the safest actually. He has family members who have had decent NHL careers. He has an NHL shot already. Skates well. The upside is there.

I thought there were better players available, same as always. We always have difference of who was the best at the slot.

Stepan was a learning lesson for me no doubt. Yet this pick is not even similar, we had Del Z in the first round in 08. Stepan was the right call at that slot, his upside was way higher than anyone in this 3rd round in 2013. He had the impressive pedigree and two way game.

yes and thats totally fine in round 4, AFTER you actually take some guys with skill. That is what most teams who know how to draft (DETROIT, CHI, ANH, etc) do. Only the Rangers take a defensive dman who can barely skate in round 1 (especially when our D is stacked already).

For once the Rangers actually drafted the right way. Unfortunately we didnt have a 1st or a 2nd. Considering the picks we did have, I think we did very well.

Not really all hindsight. At the time you weigh all the factors, and Stepan had legitimate reasons to go that high. Being a beast at Shattuck where some of the best talent was assembled was a great indication that he could be a special player in that class.

Tambellini cut his teeth in Edmonton youth leagues, this is yet another Edmonton based pick, yet I'm supposed to think he was the bpa.

Not gonna happen.

We didn't have depth problems before last year, and we will not in the future.

C: Step, Brass, Lindberg, St. Croix, Nieves, Foggy, and Boyle if we keep him (7)
LW: Hags, Kreider, MZA, Hrivik, Yogan, Bourque, Tambollini, Duclair, Buchnevich (9)
RW: Nash, Cally, Dorsett, Miller, Thomas, Fast, Kantor (7)

I don't think depth will be an issue. I think swinging for a homerun makes a lot of sense.

Let's be realistic here. People here are not "weighing all the factors" when deciding 10 minutes after the selection was made if it was the right one. They're grasping to three sentences in a news article from three months ago and the 2-3 prospects they saw play twice at the WJC and grew unreasonably attached to and deciding on a knee-jerk reaction based on that.

He's going to UND...I'll worry about him in three to four years.
