2013 NHL Draft - Pick #65 - Adam Tambellini

OMG FIRE SATHER AWFUL PICK REBUILD TRADE HANK HELL NEVER WIN A CUP HE DESERVES BETTER

Sounds like a skilled player with boom/bust. Wasn't everyone clamoring for that type of player?

Couldn't agree more! How is this guy going to help us win the cup this year!

People asking for scouting reports: You guys do realize I find them and put them in the first post, right? Be a bit freaking patient and I'll get them up there.

from FC who ranked him 72:

Tambellini is a big rangy forward with good hockey sense, that will need development both physically and mentally as he finds his game’s identity. His skating is a work in progress as he gets to where he needs to in good time but lacks ‘pop’ in his first few steps. His balance will also improve once he adds considerable leg strength. He’s not one to stickhandle his way through defenders or into the offensive zone but rather likes to find his position and have the puck distributed to him. His reach is a
major strength. He’s at his best when he plays with a sense of confidence and authority on the ice. Tambellini’s not overly physical as he can be outmuscled by smaller guys with his thin limbs.

From HP who ranked him 55

Quotable: “He has first round talent but work ethic varies from shift to shift.â€
– NHL Scout

Quotable: “Always tough to rank players like this. I didn’t see him live but Charles
An saw him a few times. NHL guys mostly said the same thing, elite talent
but needs to put it all together.†– Mark Edwards

This makes me happy and sad. If we keep him on track and he matures, he could end up being a good prospect.

Not everyone. The boom/bust picks are the reason the Rangers can't build a fourth line internally.

Agreed.

Take a much better overall hockey player, THEN take the project, 10 picks apart.

We took 2 projects so far.

Should only take projects in late rounds. No point whatsoever in drafting hoping for a fourth line player. They can be found anywhere and acquired for almost nothing.

Yet the Rangers can't seem to do it. Can't take projects when you don't have a first or second.

That doesn't even make sense. The chance you have a "project" in a later round is significantly higher in later rounds than in the first/second where you have guys who are already better and more polished.

You said you can always find fourth liners. Yet somehow the Rangers have been unable to build one. They bring tweeners or over the hill goons. How come these roles can't be filled by Ranger draft picks?

You'd rather draft fourth liners in the early rounds?

You can always sign fourth liners. Call up guys from the AHL or sign older veterans. And we have plenty of fine 4th liners as it is right now with Boyle, Asham, Pyatt (slightly hes more of a 3rd/4th line tweener) etc..The issue has just been that our guys who should be on the 4th line have been miscast on 3rd line roles due to missing high end talent (no 3C coming into this season, short one winger)

Hate this pick. Hansson was still available. Also Downing & Bjorkstrand still there too. What a crappy pick.

Yeah, I'm sure you know. Lots of people were upset when we picked Stepan. That turned out pretty well.

How about we just let the kid develop and see what we have? He skates well, has some skill and a good shot, and has a big frame. Plenty of upside there.

Wanna know what's funny? Same **** was said when we picked Stepan.

I think that thread should be included in the first post of every draft pick along with specific quotes that look especially stupid now so that everyone here who insists on evaluating whether this was a good draft pick or not based on a paragraph they found on the first blog that came up in their google search can be reminded that they're basically asking to look stupid 3-5 years from now.
