How deep is this draft?
The Rangers can get back into the bottom of the first round by trading the 2 3rd's (FLA's and their own) and the 2nd.
Is it better to stay put or move up to the first round?
Draft is very very deep this year!! So deep to the point where first round material players are filling up the second round!! But the Rangers aren't really searching for anyone so there really is no need to trade 3 mid picks for a 25-30 1st. NYR is most likely going to do what they did last year & see what's available, but I do see a trade by them.
With Gorton and Clarke in charge I would rather stay where they are and use those 3rd's.

I have been in favor of moving down for years because I really trust the Rangers scouts.
Exactly this. I'd rather keep what we have (maybe move around one or two spots) and develop these mid picks.
I have The Rangers in the mock draft taking Steve Santini from the USA NTDP with their second round pick. Thoughts?

Projected to go mid 1st round into early 2nd round. Love to have him, but he will be taken before we can choose.

Dirty as in good? I could see the Rangers using a guy like this in the system, an offensive defenseman that could take a while to develop, but he will develop well in Boston College and could be a big payoff.

Anyone with questions, Myles Bell is playing LW this season and isn't looking place at all. This kid has an at least 95 slapshot and could be a versatile guys for the Rangers in the upcoming future.

I'll be seeing Bell Friday and/or Saturday and if any of you guys are interested in a scouting report I can definitely provide.

Yes please! I am REALLY hoping the Rangers can get Bell. He is draft eligible correct?

Yes he is.

I'm a WHL guy so I've seen Geertsen and let's just say he's quite the character guy out there. Tough as nails and reliable and smart defensively. Can use his size but could pack on some muscle, him and Houck are the new leaders of the Giants, who are currently in a rebuild.

I've been reading lately that this draft isn't that deep but that the top 10 picks (top 7 in particular) are pretty stacked compared to other drafts. Listed below is one of the more recent links.

Do you have any recent links touting how deep this draft is? I honestly haven't seen enough of the players listed to b able to comment. Most of the players I've seen are in the top 10 who seem to be excellent prospects.

The "draft depth" thing is just a myth for the most part. Rarely can you project the strength of a draft class 2 or 3 years after the fact, let alone before its actual draft day.

There are a lot of very good kids in the first round, and the top-10 or 12 all project to have very big upside. As you get into the 2nd and 3rd round, I see a lot of project picks with big upside, but less polish. With 4 guaranteed picks in the 2nd and 3rd round at the moment, I think we'll see the team roll the dice quite a bit. "Boom or bust" will be the phrase thrown around all weekend by the media reporting on the Rangers, IMO.

This draft although is a good one compared to last year and 2014 from what it seems like. I can agree that their are many projects out there, but I have noticed plenty of guys with huge upsides and great size. The other noticeable thing is how many great overagers there are this year. I was surprised when looking at last year's draft on how many guys weren't picked last year that are available this year. (Myles Bell, Anton Slepyshev for example and for the Rangers sake.) This draft has plenty of REALLY good overragers that could either be drafted or signed to a contract that could be great picks in the later rounds. Just all around depth coming from these leagues.

Here's one from the Rangers sight when the draft finished. It's really nothing, but it says at the bottom that it is deeper. I had others including an interview from Jeff Gorton saying that it in fact was deeper, but can't for the life of me find it. Sorry man. :(

Interesting article. First I've ever seen that, but I still think it is deep. I mean he states a good case with the scouts' opinions. You really do have to watch most of these guys though, some sick skill IMO.

Like TRX had pointed out and I've been saying since forever - there are good and bad players in deep and not so deep drafts. Good teams pull good players no matter what the temperature of the draft is on draft day.

Last years 6th rounders Ullmark, Barber and Zlobin all look great this year, shouldve went way higher than where they went. Good scouts did their homework and robbed them late.

Thanks, yeah, I was a bit surprised to hear that this draft is not as deep as initially thought given that all last year, like in the link you provided, all the talk was about what a great draft it would be.

It seems every year it takes quite a bit of time to get a read on how good the draft will be, even though of course it is hard to tell until another 4-5 years how good the draft actually was.

It does seem though that at least the top 7 picks in this draft are extremely solid. Also interesting that it is one of the few drafts in a while where there no longer seems to be a clear #1 nor even a clear top 2.

Yeah good note, so maybe instead of me saying its a real deep draft, lets just say whatever happens... happens. Just like a normal draft would be thought of

Really wish we took Ullmark. That honestly would solve our goaltending issue as of right now with the lack that we currently have.

There hasn't been a clear #1 in forever which I love!!! Sooo much talent that makes me crave for a 1st this year!! :)

Myles Bell Scouting Report for you guys interested from yours truly.

Myles Bell - LW/D - Kelowna Rockets (WHL)
August 19, 1993 - 6'00" - 210 lbs - Right Shot - Eligible for 2013/Last Eligible Year

Shifting into forward this year, a tenacious player, Bell plays the game hard and phsyical, a player with quick feet, good on the forcheck and a hard hitter when given the opportunity along the boards. Versatile has he is very aware of the defensive side of the game, played defense in previous years and plays the point on the powerplay, an extremely hard and quick released shot hitting at least 95 mph. A powerplay quaterback who can make a good first pass out of the zone. Character issues off the ice and issues with the law scares off teams, but his skill level is not something scouts would pass up. He could work on his conditioning and work ethic, as he tends to take quicker shifts then his linemates.

If he is around in the 3rd round I would be okay with the Rangers taking a shot at him with one of their 3rd's.

The Ranger's brass preaches about character every draft. MB has some baggage, usually not the type you'd see this team take in the draft. FA signings is a different story.

That is true, but considering the lack of point shot and skill in the system one would assume they would think that bringing him up in their system could smooth out some of his quirks. Considering they had him in for prospects camp I would think they at least like him enough to be keeping an eye on him.

Without delving too far into specifics (be mindful of libel), what are the character issues concerning Bell? I'm aware of the previous legal situation and the conclusions people drew about the kid's character based on that, but I haven't heard of any additional character issues. To the contrary--I've only heard good things about his maturity since the incident. Am I just misinformed?

Makes sense but I don't put anything past the leadership of this team ;)

Plus if MB does have all that behind him I can't see why a team would not take him higher than people are saying.

I've personally heard things about Bell's character, and that he is extremely arrogant, but mind you this guy is pretty much top 10 in scoring in the WHL, so he has every right to be confident.

I personally think the Rangers should give this guy a chance, an excellent player that could use some straightening out (and with Torts, I would assume he would.) Get him to play in the minors after this year and show him the ropes.

Changes in the CBA as to how long you retain a players rights when drafted out of Europe will add too the number of players drafted out of Europe and add to the depth of the draft.

I don't mind a little arrogance, personally. A lot of elite players carry that label. Arrogant, aloof, self-absorbed, etc. As long as your play backs it up, fine with me.

Brandon Dubinsky was a guy that a lot of people labeled as arrogant. I think it actually served his style well. I'm with you--Bell is worth a pick.

We picked some solid teams to snag third round picks from... If the season ended today, and we don't make the finals... :S we'd have three of the first four picks of the third round. Good opportunity to grab a few good players.

Just my opinion, but the Rangers taking Bell is a stretch. Recent history would say "no chance". Now, watch them step up to the mic and do it.

I would agree with you except for that fact that he was at the Rangers prospects camp last year which means they are at least doing their due diligence and getting to know him.
