I would agree with you except for that fact that he was at the Rangers prospects camp last year which means they are at least doing their due diligence and getting to know him.

Right. Unless Bell has some outside ties to the organization and he was invited as a favor (we have a few of those guys every year), then the organization has at least indicated a curiosity in the player.

The Rangers have invited some decent players/prospects to prospect camp in recent memory--Matt Read, Keith Kinkaid, Andrej Sustr, Tommy Grant, Blake Parlett, Brendan Shinnimin. Read is a great player, Kinkaid could be a nice one, too. Sustr is an interesting prospect. Grant and Parlett may make it as role players at some point.

Sustr!!!

I am very excited to see what the Rangers can do in the NCAA and CHL FA market this season. They have plenty of contract slots even with the signing of their draft picks.

From our recent Prospect Camp invites, I'd keep my eyes on Troy Grosenick and Andrew Bathgate. Those are two that could/should earn contracts from someone. Bell and Dane Fox are givens to be drafted/signed.

Nikita Zaitsev has the talent to be a good prospect, but he probably won't leave Russia. Tomas Klima is another talented player. Barclay Goodrow and Brandon Devlin will probably get AHL deals.

Grosenick would be awesome. Union keeps pumping out goalies. Great to see that program continuing to grow. I doubt he goes to the Rangers considering Hank is only 30/31 years old.

For me Sustr is the guy the Rangers HAVE to sign. Give him what he wants. They need to add some solid defensive prospects. Outside of McIlrath, Noreau and Andersson (in Sweden) I see no one.

DeKeyser would obviously be awesome but I still think Detroit nabs him.

I still wouldn't mind taking a stab at Petr Straka.

Mullane is another one.

Skjei, but otherwise, yes. I'd like some more guys in the system.

Nate Schmidt would be a good get too. He would add an offensive dimension to our D prospects that doesn't really exist outside of Andersson.

I am beyond embarrassed.

Oh come on, we have like 30 guys in the system. We all forget from time to time.

And regardless, I think your point is still valid. We could use another top-tier defensive prospect, particularly one that can move the puck.

It's odd, it seems like the Rangers have drafted a defenseman with their 1st rounder quite a bit in the past 5~6 years (and they have) and yet they have an over abundance of forwards and are lacking defensemen.

I know he has been mentioned before, but I wouldn't be overly upset with adding Parker Milner either:

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/85599/milner-ending-bc-career-with-winning-legacy/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=milner-ending-bc-career-with-winning-legacy

Milner is an average sized (6’1”, 188 lbs.) goaltender who has shown that he can play quite well under pressure and step up in big games and key situations. He is remarkably resilient and, when he’s at the top of his game, Milner is nearly impossible to beat. But what may be his greatest asset of all is his head for the game. He’s not one to get too high or too low and his focus is excellent. Milner’s also a fierce competitor willing to do whatever it takes for his team to win. He possesses outstanding athleticism and his rebound control is very good.

Nate Schmidt would be a good get too. He would add an offensive dimension to our D prospects that doesn't really exist outside of Andersson.

Definitely. Kid can really bring it from the blue line.

Rangers are going to have to score some valuable commodities in the college FA crop to replenish the organizational depth. Yes, Hartford will see some potential additions in Fasth and Lindberg, as well as MSC and maybe McColgan, but on the blue line we are painfully thin.

The NCAA is the developmental league in North America currently closest to the NHL in terms of style of play. Add to that the fact that kids come out developed and disciplined at age 22-23, and its a potential goldmine.

The trick, is separating the Matt Reads from the Tommy Grants.

I do rate Hartzell over Grosenick in the goaltender category.

My thoughts:
Grosenick: HELL YES!!! (NHL Contract)
Bathgate: Pretty solid right now, but start out small in pros (AHL Contract)
Bell: HELL YES!!! (draft or NHL Contract)
Fox: Definition of sparkplug!! Intensity level is there. Mini Sean Avery I guess you can say (draft or NHL Contract)
Zaitsev: Good size, good shot, has already been to 2 NYR prospect camps and left Russia to do so (NHL/AHL Contract)
Klima: Don't really know anything about him. Care to share? (N/A)
Goodrow: Doing well and is captain of the Brampton Battalion. (AHL Contract although I do feel he could snag an NHL deal somewhere)
Devlin: Played like crap in Windsor, turned things around in Peterborough (AHL/ECHL Contract)

I would personally pass on Bathgate, Goodrow, and Devlin. Zaitsev is ehhh. I'm completely fine with Grosenick, Bell, and Fox. (again don't know Klima)

Again Grosenick would be a huge pick up as well as Milner.

I'm not to sure that NYR should HAVE to sign Sustr, but I would love the signing. Actually now that I think about it a bit more, CT's defense is really ****ty. Sign me up!!! :yo:

DeKeyser is going to Detroit in the future unfortunately :(

Straka you say? HELL YES!!!!!!

Don't know Mullane. Could you elaborate on him for me? :)

I would be completely satisfied with either or

Mullane is a skilled forward who has put up points in all 4 years at BC. 5'11. Currently has 34 points in 30 games. I haven't watched him this season but he has always been a player who has caught my eye when watching Kreider. Best attribute is probably his passing and hockey IQ.

No thanks. Just not a fan. We do need some fresh young tenders so he's a backup if we can't land Hartzell or Stephon Williams, two guys I have way ahead of Milner.

The 3 guys I'd target are G Erik Hartzell, D Nate Schmidt, F Greg Carey. If they are gone I'd like G Stephon Williams, D Andrj Sustr, F Eriah Hayes.

Lots of teams looking to bid on all these players though.

Sustr in your 2nd list? O Really!?! Why?

I obviously like Schmidt as well.

I'm assuming we only go after one forward, one Dman, one Tender. If so I'd take Schmidt over Sustr. I like both but Schmidt is the better looking player right now. Sustr is a big project, literally.

I'd say that Schmidt, Dekeyser, and Sustr are my top-3 targets on D from the NCAA. In that order.

Detroit is heavily invested in Dekeyser, they have scouted him fierce for a few years now. It's possible the allure of NY and all World goalie Henke could make him look East.

Schmidt seems like the kind of Dman the Rangers would like, good mobility, excellent puck mover, hard shot. I still can't believe he wasn't drafted. They didn't read my draft preview that year:shakehead

I'm hopeful that Detroit's reputation for leaning heavily on vets while being perhaps overly patient with their prospects will work against them. Really like Dekeyser's mobility and hockey IQ.

Schmidt is definitely my #1 target. Shades of Justin Faulk in his game. Would be a great pickup.

Eraih Hayes is a major league under the radar type player. Good pick up. NYR has been very good in their NCAA scouting in recent years. Let's hopefully grab another one this off season.

I think out of the six you mention here, Schmidt is my No. 1. Then following Hartzell and Sustr. After that it would Hayes, Williams, Flanigan. Don't particularily care for Carey that much.

Hasn't anyone mentioned Cole Bardreau at all?
