Burned by Schultz?? Am I missing something here; he was drafted by Anaheim and signed w/Oilers, how were NYR burned by Schultz:help: Anaheim was the aggrieved party getting burned

he meant that he got his hopes up for signing him

he meant that he got his hopes up for signing him

Yes, thank you. That's exactly what I meant.

There are a few players I'd really love to sign here as UDFAs. But not going to get my hopes up.

Mullane, Army, Schmidt...along with many other names.

What we can't offer unlike a place like Edmonton, for example, is a gift roster spot.

Great read BN. Thanks for the new names :yo:

I don't really watch a lot of NCAA hockey so I only know a handful of names. And I am really interested in a goalie for the Rangers so I know I ask for "scouting reports" on players I don't know a lot on this thread. I just personally want to thank you and others for helping me stay updated with all this Free Agent prospect watch.

With this being said, I gotta ask ya BN. Who's Juho Olkinuora?

No problemo, I love watching College games. The FA's in College this year are some of the best I've seen in recent years, very excited to see who we land after the season. If we don't get anyone that will suck.

Olkinuora was behind a few Finnish netminders, so he came over to North America to play midget with intent to get a college interested. Played briefly for USHL Stampede, his coach ironically was Kevin Hartzell, father of Eric Hartzell who we are discussing as a potential FA signee as well.

Last year, his first year in Denver he split equal time with two other goalies. This year he's been the main man and finally got the oppurtunity to show what he's capable of.

Nate Schmidt is someone I'd really like, but after getting burned by Schultz I don't want to get my hopes up.

Exactly the kind of player we need, though.

Would be even better if he were a right-handed shot.

He plays the right side very well for a LH shot. Last night, even though he didn't get an assist, he setup Bjugstads GWG on the PP by racing to the right boards to keep a high, hard clearing pass in the zone.

Do you think he is capable of a FA signing? And yes it would suck. Imagine that happening!! This thread would be worthless and time wasted then

any chance the Rangers use a draft pick to draft Luke McColgan (Shane's brother)

Nick Petan is a good story. 5'9 and crushing it in the WHL. +61 on the year do far! He plays with Rattie so I guess some of those numbers are inflated. Still very impressive though. 109 points on the season so far.

I'd take a flyer on him with one of our 3rd's for sure, question is if someone reaches in the 2nd for him. As for Button's list, I'm shocked he has de la Rose and Burkowsky that low.

Stick boy and gum chaser ? Really Pierre ... So creepy anything he says

Also, I'd like to know what Mama Subban fed her boys growing up. Another Subban is a projected 2nd rounder this year

Craig Button's Top 75

I know something about most guys in the top 20, but for you guys following the draft more closely, is there a guy that stands out to you that the Rangers should trade up to get? Someone that will be well-worth a 2nd round pick?

Well I for one would love to have a1st rounder, but if I were to move up to a 20-30 spot in the 1st (and knowing who's left by then via Button's list) I would instantly snag Ristolainen. Playing in the SM-lliga already is just a real solid choice & is actually projected top 10 outside of Button's observations.

Also Zykov has been effective lately. He would probably go late 1st early 2nd. If he were to fall into the 2nd, I'd def move up some spots to grab him as well.

Can somebody tell me something about Taylor Cammarata (aside from "He's small")?

Edit: nvm, already found something

Justin Bailey is really picking up his game in Kitchener. Big kid at 6'3 and 195lbs with really nice hands and good straight ahead skating and speed. Can really dominate in the corners and protect the puck. RH shot with a very nice release. Buffalo kid who spent time with LaFontaine and his LI Royals and also grew up around pro's like Mike Peca and Matt Barnaby.

He's one of the younger kids in the draft but has a great head on his shoulders. He had a concussion early in the season which is a bit of a red flag and hence he got off to a slow start this year. However, he's near a PPG over his last 25 games.

Like a lot of big kids who haven't filled out, he doesn't quite look comfortable on his edges. He has the agility, but his balance is what you'd expect from a kid who is a bit top-heavy. However, his dad is a former linebacker for the Bills, so you know the genes are there for him to really pack on the size while still being athletic. Has the frame to be 220lbs pretty easily.

I had him as a late 1st, but with the concussion on his resume he might slide just far enough that it's realistic to move up and get him. He's a kid I'd burn an extra pick to get without hesitation.

Being there seems to be a pretty good abundance of bigger skaters in this years draft and judging by prior drafts I think guys on the smaller size have a tendency to drop. But...I don't think he drops to far past the first round. Maybe early second.

Didn't JT Miller have a concussion before he was drafted? I remember being worried about that when we picked him.

Miller was one of the players honest enough to disclose at the scouting combine that he had suffered a concussion.

Grant Sonier listed 5 late rising prospects

Brett Pesce, D, University of New Hampshire
Draft projection: 45-60

Size and mobility are a great combination, especially when you add a deep understanding of the game -- all of which the 6-3, 170 Pesce possesses. If you are going to measure this kid on statistics alone, then you will not be impressed, as he has just one goal and three assists in 31 games this season. The Tarrytown, N.Y., native is an 18-year-old defenseman who is attracting late attention from many scouts around the league. "He moves as well as [fellow prospect] Darnell Nurse, who most have as a top-20 pick, and his hockey IQ is very high, so why should he not be considered a high pick in this draft?" asked a Western Conference scout. For me, he does not play with the same edge as Nurse, but his footwork and decision-making are key assets. The fact that Pesce competes against players as much five years older than him adds to his projection. He has a lot of room to grow and get stronger, and I feel he could go a lot higher than many are predicting.

“He’s the real deal,†said one talent hawk. “Tremendous poise with the puck, ice water in his veins. A good skater and he’s getting a lot of time for a freshman.â€

The youngster did get in some summer play with Team USA at the under-18 Ivan Hlinka tournament, hosted each year in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. He also played with the National Team Development Program during the previous Christmas break, where he impressed both scouts and Umile. One scout said Pesce was the “best of the lot,†at the time, other than Jacob Trouba, the Winnipeg Jets first-rounder.

But it’s another young blueliner who has really caught Pesce’s eye and it’s someone closer to home: New York Rangers rising star Ryan McDonagh. The New Hampshire freshman is a Blueshirts fan and loves that the team has a young blueline he can relate to. Like those workaholic Rangers, Pesce believes his best attributes are winning battles and being aggressive. He’d still like to work on his shot.
