He is another guy getting too much attention because he plays in Hockey East.

But, we scout who we scout, I guess.

He's okay. He's a guy who you won't notice much because he plays it safe most of the time. He doesn't try to do more than he's capable usually. He's focused on positional D and keeping his body between the opponent and his net. He's got a little boom in his shot, too.

Not excited about this. And he is 23? Seems like a poor move?

When I look at an undrafted NCAA free agent for NHL potential, I look for them to possess something special, something that sets them apart from the crowd of likely career minor league players.

Dekeyser, it's his poise and brains. Sustr his size. Carey his shot. Gilroy it was his skating.

This kid never stood out to me in the games I watched. Not to mention besides TVR and Dekeyser, I'm not high on many of the NCCA defensemen this year. Hughes led the league in scoring fro the blueline and is very likely to be a career AHLer.

I get wanting to sign a d-man considering the glut of forwards they currently have close to the NHL but why a 23 year old out of college who isn't anything all that special?

Dan Girardi wasn't anything special. You just never know. They scout who they scout. If they like him, I like him.

Girardi was 21 though, no?

If you sign a 23 year old and he takes 2-3 years to develop he may make the NHL at 26. Girardi took a couple of years.

Unless they really see this kid as having a legit shot at making the team next season.

If they do get the kid, I assume it'll be on a contract for next year like Nicholls was. If so, I don't see the problem. I mean, they have to see SOMETHING they like (in fact, based on the report, sounds like multiple teams see something in him) and we do need to replace some or all of:

Delisle
Niemi
Collins
Pyett
Parlett
Vernace

As well as, potentially:

Sauer
Eminger
Gilroy

Agreed.

Plus, you NEVER trust a guy with two first names, that's a given.

Fitz, what do you think of Frankie Simonelli of Wisconsin?

Not exact the greatest comparison to make your point on...

it shows the lack of depth of young NHL players prospects that are PRO ready with Pashin (most likely never get signed) :help:, and most AHL dman in CT are AHL lifers like Niemi or Collins or Pyett :help: signing these players are a waste....

How are they a waste? Those contracts are specifically reserved for undrafted FAs. They are going to give them to someone. You can argue that we haven't gotten much out of them and you'd be right, but that doesn't mean we should stop trying.

When you have a left wing power play sniper on the market, which is what this team desperately needs...

Sather is paranoid of the ECAC due to Jessiman. It's completely unfounded.

Another Lee Baldwin

some of these players should sign AHL contracts and earn their way to get an NHL contract. they went undrafted for a reason... Baldwin isnt even with the organization anymore??

I'm not totally up on the available players. Who are you referring to?

I doubt Jessiman has anything to do with whether or not we sign the player in question. Jessiman was a 1st round pick in one of the best drafts ever. Missing on him was a huge (no pun intended) mistake.

If we sign some undrafted player out of the ECAC and he doesn't make it, big deal.
