Henrique isn't arbitration eligible this year. He would be next year. UFA age is 27, so we'd be buying out 4 UFA years.

1 non-arbitration: 2.5M
3 RFA arbitration years: avg of 3.75M
4 UFA years: 5M

That's what I'd pay right now for Henrique as he is right now.

Would be around 4.22M so I'd expect and be happy with a cap hit from 4-4.5M.

For 8 years, I'd be very happy with that contract. I might hate it later, but right now I'd be very happy.

If Lou is looking at a long term contract (which matches with everything that's been said in the media with the hold up being the term, not the dollar figures) then it makes a ton of sense how he structured the Zidlicky and Jagr contracts.

What real young players has Lou ever locked up real long term?

You forgot you are going to have to add a good amount of money for incentive. You've got to make Henrique want to stay, so add about a half million for that. I'd put the 8 year price somewhere around 4.75-5.25. Probably more on the low side.

I'd be pretty good with that contract over the entire term. If Henrique doesn't progress at all, he's still a pretty decent 2nd line center and while 4.25M would be a tad on the higher side, it's not handcuffing us at all.

The bonuses would be huge here because Henrique next year is NOT worth 4.25M.. but the way the bonuses could be deferred to next year makes the higher cap hit palpable. Then, the cap shoots up next year and its no where near an issue.

I'd think those numbers are pretty good. 8 years, 4.25M or 6 years 4M are my guesses.

Incentive? uh... the incentive is he gets a guaranteed contract for 8 years and a guaranteed 34M.

He won't get 4.75M-5.25M or at least he shouldn't. That'd be valuing his UFA years closer to 6M which is ridiculous right now.

Not to mention, if you throw on an extra .5M a year as you say.. the cap hit would go to 4.5M.. not 4.75-5.25M. That's close to an extra million a year..

8 years of job security isn't incentive?

4.5 seems too high imo

I know they will have to add extra to gain more years but 4.5 is a lot for a guy who only has 67 points in the nhl(even if you're paying for potential).

Just watched highlights of the 2011-2012 team.

It really made me remember how much I loved that team. That was honestly my favorite Devils team, I loved everything about that team and every player.

4 year deal puts him at UFA does it not? he'd be 27 in 4 years

Meant 3 year deal, sorry. I laid out the different types of years (and how much his salary should be) above.

Also, there's some incentive in that we can forntload his contract a little bit more to get him more money sooner than he would with smaller length deals.

I loved that team too and every player too, other than Eric Boulton. I don't think I've disliked a Devils player as much as him. I mean I'm just about at that point with Volchenkov, but for a player that only lasted a year with us, I don't think I disliked anyone more.

Kurtis Foster was another one, but he didn't stick around long enough thank god.

8 yrs 4.287 avg

1- 3
2- 3.25
3- 4
4- 4.50
5- 4.50
6- 5
7- 5
8- 5

probably a pipe dream.

I don't think its a pipe dream at all really. Seems like we'd be paying fair market value at all points of the deal while we can frontload the contract to get him more money sooner than taking a smaller term deal.
