BergerNeueLZ: Also, @damien_brunner appears to be headed to the #NJDevils. They're doing a lot of background work on him right now.

ToddCordell: That last RT is from a Swiss sports reporter. Sounds legitimate.

Shootout should probably be Elias, Ryder and Henrique right now. maybe Brunner if signed. its not that awful really.

but yeah were gonna miss Zach and Kovy. theres a reason we have the all time best shootout record

I'm in Toronto at this moment and all my cousins say that Garbo is a good player who will always go to the dirty areas to score a goal. For some reason he just got in the coaches dog house. They say he' worth signing. I would also like to see the league give the Devils an extension on giving up their the first rounder, just another year. Posted this on the main board and got flamed to death.

I'd rather just get it over with and give up this years rather then delay it anymore. Some big fish in the 2015 draft anyways.

Don't need to get into the draft pick fine anymore cause it was rediculous from the start.

I'm very weary of taking on a player that Detroit is letting go. That team knows a thing or two about players, and they rarely let a good one get away, or keep one they should let go.

If this is true, I will be supremely curious as to the term and money. 2 or 3 years max at 3 - 3.5 ish and I'll be OK. 4 years at anything over 3 and I'll start to get nervous. 5+ years and/or 4+ million and I won't be too happy.

Problem with Brunner was he was a 1 year stop gap. Last year they landed no one in FA but Samuelsson and needed someone who *could* score. Brunner lit it up in the NLA and they signed him for one year. This off season they had big plans and landed Alfredsson and Weiss. Landing Alfredsson and Weiss was the controversy with Brunner..... Weiss is younger so sure that makes sense but 1 year of Alfie to let Brunner go? No one really understood it. I still don't. And now they have 2.3 million in cap space and still have Nyquist/Andersson to sign.

Their Top 6:

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Abdelkader
Alfie-Weiss-Franzen

Babcock made it clear Abby was in the top 6...and Brunner didn't want to be relegated to Bottom 6 Duties nor does DET have the cash

There simply wasn't room for him. Detroit fans loved him they all tell me how they wish they could keep him. I think this move Alfie for Brunner will bite Holland in the ass.

ill be very surprised if it boils down to letting Brunner go and signing Alfie. seems a bit backwards to be honest. especially when you think their first choice was Elias. they let Brunner go for a second choice twilight player

Maybe they may not directly correlate but the are indirectly correlating because Alfredsson's 5m cap hit is prevent Brunner from being resigned.

7.8 million without Alfie and Brunner, Nyquist, and Andersson to sign

5.5 million for Alfredsson (cap hit)

2.3 million for Nyquist and Andersson

No room for Brunner

Zach has one of the best shootout percentages in the entire league (over 46%). Kovy made 8% less of his attempts than him. Clowe is about as good as Kovy in the S/O (makes 39%).

yeah this is basically what I was getting at, that Brunner couldnt be resigned due to Alfies signing. meh, seems silly to me.

Thats why I never understood the move...why sign Alfredsson whose a 50ish point player for 1 year when you have a 27 year old who was on pace for 50 points and would command less $$

Well, first we don't know what kind of money he is looking for and second we don't know the term he wants. He may not be much cheaper than Alfie and want way more term. I really fear a 5+ year deal coming.

Because there is more than points? Alfie is still a very good two-way player and has tons of leadership. I am also pretty sure guys like Zetterberg and maybe Kronwall pushed Holland to sign Alfie.

Brunner is a scorer and that's it. Not very good defensively and does not play very physical. But he brings points and speed, which we need a lot right now.

Why though? You have Datsyuk, Kronwall, Bertuzzi, Franzen, Zetterberg...I didn't think Leadership was one of Detroits problems.

If TG posted it, the source is legit

If people are asking how this guy would know. He says the Devils are doing background work, which would include asking his team in Switzerland what type of player he is
