There are so many big UFA forwards available next season . Why tie up money this season by signing 2nd rate UFA'S to a couple year deals . These guys can't even come close to plugging the kovy hole ?

there MIGHT be big UFAs available. then remove everyone who resigns, then remove everyone who wants alot of cash/long term.

I bet the free agent crop ends up being fairly bleh again

1.) there likely won't be that manh big UFA's next year when free agency actually hits. It never works out like that. Likely only Vanek hits free agency because he likely just wants out of Buffalo. Still he may re-up with whoever trades for him in-season.

2.) Most will re-sign with their teams because the extra year teams can give their own free agents is a huge incentive for guysnto resign. Means teams can offer more guaranteed money than other teams.

3.) the cap is going to jump next year, likely back to around 70 million. The money will be there t sign guys if needed.

No thanks to Brunner. Detroit doesn't make mistakes letting guys go and they couldn't wait to replace this guy with a relic (Alfie). Pass pass pass, now's not the time to lock into bad long term deals.

If we could replace Kovy & Parise with realistic and dream options, who would you guys pick? Just wondering.

And If Brunner was so great Jim Nill would have grabbed him immediately.

Gotta replace them with someone, can't just leave holes. Very interested on hearing how you guys feel.

I was so deadset on having these guys retire as Devils that I have no clue myself honestly.

Lou should sign Grabovski and Brunner.

**** waiting till 2014. I want to win NOW. However, I realize we are probably better off in the long-run if we wait till next years FA

We have the money but the more I think about it the more I think the term just isn't there. Good luck getting Grabo/Brunner on short term deals.

I agree. No panic moves at this stage. The acquisition of Grabo/Brunner is not going to catapult this team into the playoffs and we could get stuck with some less than ideal contracts chasing them. I want to rebuild, but Lou won't. He may be the most stubborn man on the planet.

We were in such a win now mode and buzz until Kovy killed it with this circus. I don't care what anyone says this has to deflate the team a bit, it def deflated me as a fan and caused major heartache. I went from being giddy about being cup favorites to feeling like someone in my family has died. I'm just lost now.

I just want a Stanley Cup. Call me spoiled but 10 years is a long time.

I'd put Grabo on a longer deal, hell I wanted him before this nonsense. Kick the tires on Jagr see if he will take one year deal instead.

Help if Kovy took Volch with him though...

This team we have can make the playoffs. I know they can.

I think they can too...BUT we are very exposed to injuries woes again at forward. It behooves us to try and get another forward, if for no other reason then for depth.

Woo. Team optimists. Getting outnumbered around these parts.

As for injury, we're not yet at a point where we have a 4th line of Boulton-Sestito-Mills. So all's not too wrong -- I do think one more offensive threat is pretty close to necessary, though.
