That is a worry. An injury to our top 6 and we are in trouble.

Unless Boucher is ready (Unlikely)

Why I like the idea of Grabo at least. He fits how we want to play, and is worth giving more then one year to.

Plus signing him, and maybe Jagr if the price is right...or maybe a top 9 depth signing for cheaper doesn't sink us for next offseason.

Lou is still going to try and move Volch now, or buy him out next year (in fact we will have all that Kovy money back so we should be able to afford the buyout).

Zids comes off the books too, and if we sign a forward to one year they too. Will still be room to work with whatever UFAs are out there since only Fayne and Loki will be up for new contracts.

I think people are dismissing Loki, we have been dismissing JJ for WAY to long, and other guys are not going to play as bad as they did last year.

If Boucher plays this season I foresee a Tedenby 2.0 situation. He still needs time.

Can Clowe help replicate the success of the Tedenby-Josefson-Clarkson line?

Henrique-Zajac-Zubrus
Elias-Loktionov-Ryder
Clowe-Josefson-Tedenby
Gio/Olesz-Carter-Bernier

Hmm.

I'm optimistic too actually. Outside this year which will be a scramble, I think another decade of Kovy would have let us all down and likely been an increasing number of games lost to injury and a roster hamstrung to keep him on PP, PK and top line minutes despite not performing up to expectations.

Now we're freed up and once we solve the short term issues, back on track to reason.

I can see the upside, but I'm soured at the "how" this all went down.

Im very optimistic about this team. If they give 100% I know they have what it takes. They have proven everyone wrong hundreds of times before, we will just do it again

I fully expect Henrique to take the next step. He has the tools to become the face of this franchise (Already one of the fan favorites)

Ya that is the most bitter part of it. Jim actually has a point with some of what he said, but that doesn't change we just got kicked in the balls and punched in the stomach.

Saves us from a long term commitment that, you are right, would not of worked out most likely, plus since he was unhappy, we would be dealing with him going 75% maybe 50%.

I just don't want to give up on this season. To much was going right before this nonsense. Lou is in win mode, keep it going somehow. Muscle through. Forecheck teams into oblivion and play old sound Devil's defense.

Troll the league with a no name team.

I'm on the same page as you.
It was a kick in the gut, and the team isn't dead in the water... but it's crazy to believe that something like this would happen. Hard to get over.

No real way to "get over it" til the season starts and we can really invest ourselves into the team again. But, I know they're really going to come out strong.
Guys like Elias an Marty are the strongest voices in that locker room, and they know us fans really need something to boost our spirits. I know they'll play hard in front of the fans. It's all you can ask for, really.

One thing that made us a lot worse last year was that Zajac and Henrique stunk. If Zajac was as good as he really is (I don't believe he's a product of Parise) and Henrique didn't disappear so much, then we would have been a lot better.

We were on pace to give up 208 goals last year in 82 games. We were on pace to score 191 goals I believe. Those aren't counting shootout winners and losers either, those are real goals scored. We gave up 208 real goals in 11-12 I believe, but scored 216.

Is it realistic to think that having Schneider and Marty can shave 20-25 goals off of having Marty and Moose?

Thats all im asking for. Give 110%. If you do that, and the results dont fall your way, then whatever.

I read somewhere on twitter that if Schneider posted the same Save % With us this year and replaced Moose's stats we would of given up 38 less goals this year

Not sure how much can be shaved, but yes considering the goaltending was very lackluster we should be able to shave off goals given up. Add on guys like Henrique and Zajac getting back to what they should be and we are still a playoff team.

Speaking of stats on twitter, I'll have to go back and figure out who it was.
But somebody was looking at offensive zone faceoff stats.
Our team, over the past 3 seasons, was the most efficient at turning faceoff wins into goals. One out of every 26 ozone faceoff wins, I think.

So if 110% could not only be their effort, but their fo%... that'd be a spectacular head start.

I'd put Grabo on a longer deal, hell I wanted him before this nonsense. Kick the tires on Jagr see if he will take one year deal instead.

Help if Kovy took Volch with him though...

Jagr for 1 year and Grabo for 2 years and I'd be very happy. We might have a OK enough lineup but as said... one injury to our lineup and we are screwed unless you expect Cam Janssen and/or Krys Barch to bail this team out.

Something needs to be done.

One thing that makes me feel positive is that this Kovalchuk BS is a blemish on Lou's resume, a BIG one at that. He knows he's at the end of his time too, and I think the man has too much pride to let the twilight of his career be scarred by this stupid Kovalchuk situation. He wants to go out with this thing looking like it never happened, so I think he'll keep the ship straight, and do everything he can to stay in it and make sure we can keep Schneider, and have success going forward.

Weren't you the one who said that we won't be able to keep Schneider, though? :sarcasm:

I just have this feeling that the Devils are going to impress the pants off of everybody this season.

I'm at the point where I think we're finishing 1st in the conference or last overall

It would be so like us (pre-Kovy us) to just somehow dominate this season.

Yea I feel like that as well. Its either going to go amazingly well or be an unmitigated disaster. I don't know if there's gonna be a middle ground. I could see a scenario where they get off to pretty slow start and then come together and roll everyone like 2006.

What I said was, we would have to stay competitive if we're going to retain him in 2 years.

What pissed me off last year is that nobody stepped up when Kovalchuk got injured. Hell, nobody stepped up after Marty got injured. Moose was a mess last year, but there was rarely anybody to bail him out and that was with Kovalchuk in the lineup.

We still have one of the better 4th lines in the league, and I have a feeling the lineups won't be watered down with the goonies as much this year.
