We need 5 20 goal scorers to be really successful this season I think.

I see a fair number of similarities between the team that it looks like we'll have on paper and the 07-08 team

No clear cut star offensive threat, a good core of players that could put together 50+ points along with some decent depth

A guy or two on the back end to chip in some points along with some good defensive defensemen

and a goaltender who is poised to have a huge season

Made a bet with my friend that Larsson would score 30+ points this season. I win, he buys me a autographed Larsson photo. I lose, I eat a raw tomato. (I loathe raw tomatoes)

2013-2014 versus the 2011-2012 Devils

We have replaced 5 of the top 9 forwards on our team. Are the replacements better than who they replaced?

Ryan Clowe > David Clarkson- I look forward next year comparing the stats of these 2

Michael Ryder > Petr Sykora- I think Ryder will be better player than 11-12 Sykora

Rostislav Olesz > Alexi Ponikarovsky- Don't know if Olesz outperforms 11-12 Poni but definitely 2013 Poni

Andrei Loktionov < Zach Parise- Huge dropoff here

Damien Brunner < Ilya Kovalchuk - Hopefully Brunner scores 25 goals next year

FWIW, @SwissNHL claims Damien Brunner's will sign tomorrow with the #NJDevils. Two years, $3 million per.)

Corey Schneider > Martin Brodeur Hopefully Schneider performs like a top 5 goalie next year

Defense basically is the same as the 2011-2012 version since Tallinder missed so much time with the blood clot.

Ryder , Elias , Henrique , Zajac, Brunner

Clowe is a 20+ guy too. Zubrus had 17 2 years ago. Loktionov had 8 in 28 games last year (translates to over 25+ over a full season).

We have the players to put up goals. Our demise is greatly exaggerated. Kovy isn't everything. I wonder if the fans up in arms about the Devils offense are "newer" fans who were around for the Kovy years.

The Devils have never been about one guy on offense playing a billion minutes. We're back to being who we are - it's a good thing.

so many butthurt redwings fans on twitter over brunner
I'd be butthurt too if I signed Weiss and Alfredsson (great player, but for one year? I'd rather young players...) and let Filppula and Brunner go.

I think I am too! Is this for real?

The Schneider will work wonders for this team as long as Pete handles the goalie situation the right way. That's if Marty doesn't retain some of his brilliance that he still possesses when healthy.

I think everyone here is gonna love Schneider. I've absolutely loved him for years now, and have woke up many groggy mornings after staying up to watch Canucks games because of him!:yo:

I am going to agree with Jim again and say that we are going to see a strong Marty next year. I think the legit competition in net is something that is going to push him and give him something to relish too.

Competition in the bottom 6 should get the best out of guys like JJ Loki etc.

I think Brunner will surprise people here. Team as a whole will. We have talent. We have defense and goaltending and a strong system.

I believe Elias, Ryder, and Henrique should all hit 20. And I made a bold claim that Zajac will be a 25-35-60 player this year and I'm sticking to it. I think Zajac "surprises" us and becomes our second best offensive weapon this season. He has that great shot, without Parise, 17, and Clarkson, it's his time to use it.

I think Clowe and Brunner will both come short of 20, but Zubrus will compensate with close to 15 goals of his own.

A little ambitious with some of these, but I'd rather have a bunch of solid scorers than guys you heavily rely on.
