I feel like people are really undervaluing just how good he was in the NLA.

Excuse me... I ment on the NHL level. Most leagues are very different. I am for signing Brunner and adding his speed, playmaking and goal scoring.

wings fan coming in peace.

i think a lot of the brunner criticism has been over the top (and i'm meaning more from wings fans than from anyone else). yes, we are higher on nyquist and tatar than on brunner, but brunner did very well last year for his first year in the NHL and he came into his own int he playoffs whilst playing with a pair of kids. he isn't great defensively, but not everybody is. as long as it is taken into account with line combos, etc, it shouldn't pose a big problem. his other weakness imo is that he makes the wrong decisions too often. he LOVES to shoot and it can really grate on your nerves when he repeatedly shoots from bad angles with a d-man directly in front of him. however, last year was his first year and he'll very possibly learn from it. add to that his attacking strengths which includes a good shot and some nice 1-on-1 skills and he's well worth a punt on the money being rumoured. believe me, if we weren't in a bad cap position and with too many players on the roster as it is, we'd have tried harder to keep him. he's a risk and he's limited, but imo he'll be a good signing if you guys get him.

From our position, I wouldn't give up any of those assets straight up for Vanek, aside from Urbom.

Exactly what I was going to say. As much as a Buffalo fan would come over and laugh at this statement, I wouldn't give up our young potential building block guys for one year if Vanek. If he's signed beyond... Then we can start talking.

It's also not as if we're married to the guy if he can't live up to a 3Mx4 contract (which, by the way, is pretty easy to match for a guy with his skill). If he sucks, send him to a team rebuilding and looking to reach the floor. Calgary is in a constant spin cycle, so throw him there if he doesn't fit here.

I actually think Brunner would be a perfect fit and more than happy to give him his rumored contract. But it's not as though he couldn't be traded either.

Henrique is a complete player. He has everything, goal scoring, leadership abilities, 2 way ability, etc. He is a perfect Devil if you will.

On Vanek, no Henrique. But an interesting part of a deal could be a guy like Wedgewood. With Schneider here now we have our goalie (I'm banking that he resigns). Wedgewood is a solid goaltending prospect and Miller is probably on his way out and not getting younger. Wedgewood would give Buffalo another goaltending prospect with Hackett for the future.

I would entertain...Wedgewood, Matteau, Carter/Bernier, + a 2nd/Burlon/Scarlett for Vanek and Tropp

Elias-Zajac-Ryder
Henrique-Loktionov-Vanek
Zubrus-Josefson-Brunner
Olesz-Carter-Clowe

That lineup has 3 pure goal scorers (Ryder, Brunner, Vanek), two way guys (Zajac, Henrique, Josefson), playmakers (Elias,Loktionov), grinders (Zubrus, Clowe, Carter, Olesz).

Talk about depth. At the end of the day I don't think any team is going to give up anything near what Buffalo is looking for for Vanek. He is also on the last yr. of his contract. With the above deal you get a solid goaltending prospect, a power forward top 9/maybe top 6 winger prospect, a solid depth player, and a high pick/promising but raw D prospect (just a step below the Severson, Merrill tier). Or buffalo runs the risk of getting nothing if Vanek walks.

Additionally, Vanek could be that big deadline pickup when Buffalo may reliaze "OK we are out of the playoffs, Vanek won't be resigning, find the best possible deal."

You do realize floor teams don't go out trying to obtain bad contracts right?

If that was the case, Wade Redden and Scott Gomez would have their jerseys hung from the Nassau Colosseum rafters.

not sure we should be paying a 4th liner 4.85M. if we get vanek, we prob wouldn't get brunner, put clowe in his sport and put gionta/bernier in clowe's spot

just saw this somewhere else

Vanek for Henrique, Merrill, Urbom and a 2015 1st

 Not a chance. We are trying to make the team better so that the pick we lose next year isn't too high in the draft order, and their proposed solution is that we should trade (among other things) our first pick the next year after that too? Outstanding.

Vanek has won NOTHING in Buffalo, he's lazy and not the kind of player that will make his team much better.

It is totally absurd to consider trading Henrique or Merrill for this bum.

Sure he has good hands and can score but he's not a complete player and he won't do what it takes to win.

He would be be good on an already stacked lineup where all he has to do is score in the PP.

I realize that, but I wouldn't call the rumored Brunner contract an albatross either. IF he flops, it's an overpayment for a skilled winger that just got a bit too much $$. Easy enough to unload if it doesn't work out. If Tallinder can be moved, so could a 28/29 yr old Brunner - it just may not yield a pretty return.

Phanuef to NJ makes soo much sense . It's compensation for the Clarkson tampering charge.

Seriously though , he always picked fights with Clarkie and Kovy. Both gone, so he can just move In lol

Seriously I don't want to give major assets for him. I got no problem getting him, but I don't want to give up anything of value cause he is a UFA soon.

Soo we should get him as compensation for tampering lol

I'm done talking about the Brunner contract. You're clearly not understanding that he has 44 games to his NHL career and your penciling him into our top 6 for the next 4 years based on half of a season. No one gives a **** about Swiss stats. Kristian Huselius once led the Swedish league in points one year, IIRC.

I hope the kid pans out, but this is a risky contract to hand out.

I swear half the people here want the Devils to fail so that their pessimism is justified

Heard that Lou is talking to Raymond also. Rumored numbers originally were 2.750 for 3 or 4 years, but apparently thats incorrect. Came from same guy saying that its 3x3 or 3x4 for Brunner.

Also, I'm not too sure about the thought of Phaneuf. Would be great to have him as a player, but I don't want to give up the assets they'd want for him.

I cant see any way in which we are interested in acquiring Phaneuf at all.

I don't believe that.....

I think many here want the Devils to succeed.

The thing is, though, that there are plenty of UNKNOWNS now going into this year.

How will Cory fare?

Will our young players step up?

Will Zajac start playing up to his contract?

Will the Devils score goals ever again?

Things like that...
