Canucks fans have wanted Raymond gone for the last 3 years, and he is still a UFA nearly 10 days after free agency started. That should tell you enough about him.

According to Detroit fans, the Red Wings aren't letting Brunner go simply because they don't want him and don't think he's a good enough player. But rather, they don't have enough room right now and they have other, younger, players that are ready to move into the role Brunner had last season. Brunner isn't an elite player, one that the Red Wings would look to move other pieces around just to fit in his contract because 2.3m isn't going to get Brunner. If they had cap space and roster space open to sign him then I'd be hesitant about us getting him but since neither are the case then I'm much less worried.

Exactly

Especially seeing their were reports saying Brunner wanted 4 years between 3-3.5 mil.

Soo he put 2 and 2 together and is trying to gain credibility

I pretty much agree with this. If he throws enough speculation out, eventually he will be halfway right about something and look somewhat credible. but you never know who has fingers in pies these days so I posted it anyway, and made sure to mention that the source isnt a lock

Hearing deal is imminent between Devils and Brunner.. hearing 3 million for 4 years.. also hearing devs had talked with Mason Raymond

not a source I know much of but yeah

Again who knows if its true. But I wonder if they spoke with Raymond in case Brunner wouldnt work or to sign him as well.

Not sure seems like we would have way more forwards then we would need.

I doubt we get both. Would fit cap wise but we would have tooo many forwards

well you stated "Would you want Bobby Butler signed for 4 years at 3 mil per?". Well, no I wouldnt, but then were not signing Butler are we. Butler is proven useless. If Butler had 8 seasons of tearing up the the AHL then had a pretty decent half-NHL season, i might be inclined to take a gamble on him. which is basically where Brunner is.

The fact that I don't think Brunner is the next Butler has literally no bearing on whether or not Brunner becomes the next Butler. It's just a real possibility.

I'm just skeptical about giving that much money to a unproven player. He played half a season in the NHL. In most circumstances, a player with 44 games experience isn't going to get paid the money that Brunner is going to get.

Lets see...1) he works for a football site, 2) he has less than 300 followers...3) he is local

This is an oppurtunity for a guy to make people think he has sources. Obviously there is a reliable report out of Switzerland that Brunner will end up here. This guy is putting out "UFA likely $$ and terms" and is hoping to get lucky.

My god... I have more followers then this supposed "source". Never a good sign

I think we could probably toss Raymond a small-ish 1 year deal, and see which of our 2rd line crop works best

he paces about 40 points a year or so. wouldnt be very bad at all for 3rd line duties. we would have a fair few 3rd liners at that point though

More the merrier... assets to trade at the trade deadline for picks and prospects.

In most circumstances a rookie player isnt 27 and hasnt excelled in a mens league for 8 years. im with you in that its a gamble, I am. I wouldnt be opposed to the term being a little shorter just to see how it goes first. Its one of those signings where id have to wait and see what the terms are then form an opinion.

I agree with all of that. And having said that, I feel that Brunner is a better choice than Raymond. I would actually take Jags over Raymond if they yield somewhere in the same ballpark money-wise.

Yea that Barlotta guy knows zilch but its pretty much a foregone conclusion that Brunner is coming here. Too much smoke for there not to be a fire. 4 years is a bit risky but whatever. If he produces then its fine.

Just spitballing here, what about:
Henrique + Urbom for Vanek
Then get Hemsky for Fayne + 3/4th rnd pick?

Still leaves us with decemt amount of d prospects and upgrades our forward top 6 immensely

Vanek Zajac Hemsky
Clowe Elias Ryder
JJ. Loki Zubs
Carter Gio Bernier

Looks like a legit top 6 , 4tth line as we no is golden, third line is kinda sketchy.

Is there any way Vanek could be had for JJ plus say Merrill and a pick? Would hate to give away Henrique

Swap out JJ for Henrique in lines listed above and it actually looks pretty deadly .....
A person can dream I guess.

Didnt someone way he broke the Ryder deal first was just off about the money?

Brunner has gotten alot of love from the Detroit fans. He plays with alot of heart. Great speed, great shot , dirty hands but struggles defensively. Doesnt lack effort, but isnt the best defensively.

Detroit already said he isnt coming back due to cap issues

Which is a load of crap since they spent whatever money he'd get and then some on relic Alfie.

I would honestly consider that, which is saying a lot because Henrique is awesome. If it went thru, and that's a big if...how much cap room would that leave us with?

If Brunner signs for 3M, it would leave us with about 400k.

The difference between Vanek and Henrique doesn't put us over the top, and it kills our future if Vanek walks. Henrique can't be traded.

Four years isn't that bad if he takes 3 million per. Having watched Brunner play quite a lot i struggle to believe he won't be worth at least that much throughout the course of his deal. He's fast, skilled and should be good for at least 20 goals every season in my opinion, he had a tremendous first year here in North America and will likely only improve as he continues to adapt his game to the NHL.

Let's not forget he's not some unproven prospect, he was a big point producer in Switzerland and definitely showed a lot of promise with the Red Wings last year, contrary to popular belief he wasn't always paired with Zetterberg and Datsyuk either. He's 27 years old, he's not going to fall off a cliff because of age in a four year deal that takes him until he's 31; and at 3 million a year if the worst comes to worst and he is legitimately terrible (won't happen), that's not exactly going to handcuff us financially when the cap is probably going to break 70 million again pretty soon.

There's little risk in giving him 3x4, only a lot of potential upside in that we lock up a dynamic forward for four years at a bargain of a cap hit.
