Give me a break. lol

Let me count the ways

- No Kovalchuk
- popgun offense which adversely affects every other facet
- 3 goals by the opposition almost guarantees a loss. The players are aware of this incredibly small margin for error as well.
- Remaining schedule littered with superior playoff teams hungry for points

I would not be shocked if the wheels came off completely and this isn't any indictment against the players. The effort has always been there all year, but at some point the accumulating mental stress just erodes the entire team concept.

We won't win another game ever. Book it.

You are aware that we have 7 wins in the last 24 games played, wich includes 2 wins via the shootout... right?

If that's not a team headed in a downward spiral, I don't know what is.

We haven't really had that many injuries though have we? Saw some table recently which showed how many "man games lost to injury" each team had. We were one of the teams with the fewest, almost at the bottom of the table. So injuries really isn't an excuse (we all know that), just look at Ottawa.

Whole reason for us being in this position we are in right now is because this team this year has underperformed.

Yes, underperforming is a major issue in regards to this team. The thing with the injuries, however, is not so much the man games lost, but the players lost. Zubrus was a huge loss at the time because this team had no depth to speak of. Then Marty goes down which forced Hedberg into action for 13 straight games. Kovy, while not providing as much offense as we would expect, well it's a tremendous loss regradless. He only plays 25 minutes a game after all.

Combine all of that with the underperforming and that is your 2013 New Jersey Devils.

And the schedule in those 24 games wasn't necessarily tough. The front and back ends of the complete schedule are the proverbial buzzsaw. We have been getting our ***** kicked by subpar competition and lower rung playoff teams for the last 2 months.

Stop being so negative. It's just a slump.

A 24 game sample in a 48 game season isn't called a slump in my books... but whatever floats your boat my friend.

It's so damn hard to say the truth around here, especially when it doesn't favour our team. Why not just face the facts and call it like it is instead of trying to convince ourself that we're hitting a little speed bump.

Devil fans have alot of pride and have trouble stating the obvious. This is a flawed hockey team, who's serious inability to score goals has corrupted the entire mentality & confidence of the team.

I've been following this team for close to 17 years now, I have pride as well... I just speak the truth.

There's a difference between being realistic and being delusional. The facts are right there, 7 wins (including 2 via the shootout) in 24 games played.

If you to have a pulse of our current team, I don't see how you can have a better stat then that IMO, and say that we're heading in the right direction.

25th in the league in scoring. 15th in goals allowed. 24th in Faceoff percentage. This team doesn't deserve to even be in the playoff discussion.

I think it's worse than that. I see us maybe winning 3 of those games (Florida, NYR, Pitt).

You do realize going 3-8 would be a worse rate than what last place Florida is going at for the season?

Christ.. we're going to win more than 3 games. We're an average hockey team, not a bottom feeder.

They won't give till it's over, I believe in our leaders to put up a fight at minimum. And what's new now, the Rangers, Caps and Philly are suddenly wayyyy too strong for us ?

And if we miss the playoffs, what's the big deal ? **** happens and we desperatly need some talent.

Dude the Rangers scored SIX goals last night!!!

Obviously by trading Gaborik, they've infinitely improved their goal scoring and will probably rise from 30th in the league to 2nd or 3rd by year's end.

We've BEEN on a '3-8 clip' for twice that long already, and against a bad schedule to boot.

Sorry, I didn't catch your facial reaction when you posted... :sarcasm:

It's all good man. But I've been in negative camp for weeks now lol. What you see is what you get with this team and it certainly hasn't been pretty.

Sadly, they are in fact playing at a bottom feeder pace right now and have been for basically half of this season at this point. I know it's crazy, but now that the dust has settled, the #'s done lie. They don't win games. They should be better than what they've shown, but they're not. This team just doesn't win.

Some people are projecting 3 wins + the rest of the way. I'm having a real hard time seeing that. If we had a little more luck, maybe, but that's the other thing. They've literally received zero breaks this year. Another sign of a bad team.

I hate the Rangers as much as the next Devils fan but I'm not homer enough to say that they didn't improve their club by landing the players they did when sending a disgruntal forward the other way with a bunch of picks.

The Rangers lost alot of "sandpaper" threw the offseason and that was a big part of Tort's gameplan. They added some grit, a solid center and a promising young d-men to a roster that needed just that.

I'm not saying that they'll sweep the Pens if they faceoff in round #1, but to say that they're not a better team today with the additions they made is just wrong IMO and I don't see why they couldn't pass in the standings cause of those moves.

I'm not bashing the Rangers at all, btw. I think they got worse short-term with yesterday's trade but have improved their outlook for the next 1-2 years if they can keep Clowe (which seems likely).

My point is, if the Devils come out tonight and completely own the Bruins (if we want to keep the scenario consistent, they are missing 3 of their top players as well), are we all going to suddenly declare them back?

I certainly wouldn't.. Rangers are kind of in the same boat as us..

How did they get worse? They added depth since they moved a roster player (Gaborik) and got 4 roster players coming their way (Clowe, Brassard, Dorsett and Moore).

That's like adding a entire line and landing a spare d-men. Very solid move on the part of Sather IMO.

That disgruntled forward scored 40 goals two of the last three seasons and, slump or not, was the Ranger's most dangerous forward.

You're looking at last night's game and assuming that Clowe and Brassard are going to continue producing at the same rate.. they won't.

Go look at the Rangers board, plenty of them do not like that trade at all. It has the potential to be a win for them, especially if Moore works out and the Clowe trade will definitely be a win if they do re-sign him.. but short-term, they did get worse.
