We still have our defensive surplus. It would be irresponsible for Lou to not look for a trade to improve the team in that situation.

Yeah, should've specified I meant adding a forward. I hope Lou's still trying to solidify our D. With Harrold sitting and Urbom in the minors, there's absolutely no reason for having 7 defensemen that could conceivably be playing every night.

Wings fans are authorized to make trades on their team's behalf, right? Wasn't that part of the new CBA?

Why would we want Franzen? He is 33 and signed for another 7 years. His prime was 50 pts player. I would not want his contract if he becomes a 30-40 pt player.

My eyes. He started running out of gas at the end of last season, and was scratched during the playoffs. Lou clearly doesn't think he has what it takes.

Definitely, no matter what the kids do a trade has to go down. Ideally the kids doing well frees Lou's hand on which guy he sends out, and maybe he can go looking for draft picks and maybe some forward depth, instead of having to sell someone like Fayne and parts of the farm for a top 6 forward. First big question will come when Matteau's 5 games are up. Even if he looks ready do we send him back to develop more and give Butler a shot?

Lots of questions that only games played will start to answer, the rest is just pure guess work right now.

Wasn't Volchenkov a number 1 D for the Senators? I remember everyone hyping him as the successor to Scott Stevens when he signed here.

aaand a big **** no to gio back here. we need a legit goal scorer. replacing mrs suters production aint gonna be easy, or cheap, but is possible and needs to be done.

not really a huge Gionta fan either. I don't miss the patented streak up the wing/shoot into the goalie's chest move we saw from him every game

The Habs aren't trading Gionta 'now'. Maybe if (when) they're out of it by March, it becomes a possibility but I would HOPE Lou would do something to allieviate our forward/wing problem before then.

And he would absolutely help, much more than Gomez/Sykora/whatever other scrub people have been begging for the last two weeks.

Well he has had back to back 25+ goal, 55+ point seasons. But I don't think I'd want him for another 7 years either.

Gionta is a guy I would love to have back one day... but you just can't justify it on that contract. That's the only problem. At least, its definitely a problem in terms of acquiring him in any form during this year (if Montreal were to shop him). Say at some point during next season, if Montreal wanted to shop him, and was absorbing some of the salary, that's one thing. Especially on an expiring deal, its not bad at all. Just hard to pay him a full $5 mil when you know he's not quite the point producer we loved when he was here a few years back.

Well MTL can take on some of the contract now soo

Only way either of those two leave Anaheim is if they don't want to come back. The Ducks will have plenty of room to give them both big contracts.

i would go bananas if we got getzlaf, but ive never been to high on perry for some reason, even when he was a god in london. Am I wrong in thinking bobby ryan still has to be a moving part in that situation as well, or has the dust settled with him?
