No way, you're over-rating Benn. He's good, real good, but not an elite forward.

Look what Columbus got for Nash.

You underrate Benn.

He is 6'2'' 200 pound and 23 years old.

Rookie season in 82 GP he had 22g 19a with 2 PP goals. 182 shots with a 12.1 S%
2nd season in 68 GP he had 22g 34a with 6 PP goals. 177 shots with a 12.4 S%
last season in 71 GP he had 26g 37a with 2 pp goals. 203 shots with a 12.8%

He was on par with Parise last season and he was 22. He is only going to get better too which is scary.

Is there actually a chance in hell we get Benn...?

I think the Stars will do whatever they have to do to NOT move him. There are probably teams out there that have better assets than we do to get a deal for him... but with two of Tallinder/Volch/Zidlicky gone most likely after this season.. I can see the Devils fitting another long term Zajac like deal under the cap.

Stars owner Tom Gaglardi says the Stars are working hard to get Jamie Benn signed by opening night, hope to have good news soon.

doubt he'll move even if it was serious

I would ignore Eklund guys. At least anything he says about our team. I'll give him credit for breaking the league's proposal, and his sources who said a deal would be done hours before the CBA sessions ended, when everybody else said it would be another day or two. This is what he had to say a day or two before Semin was locked up though.

''ON Semin...

I am hearing more regarding Alex Semin every day and tonight the latest has this as a two-way battle between NJ and Pitt. One source I really trust believes NJ is the leading candidate now...I also must add I keep hearing not to rule out the Capitals in this. They have kept constant lines of communication with Semin's group the entire time here...''

Dallas still hold his rights correct? So if Benn doesnt play this year the Stars keep that years rights.

Of course they hold his rights, he is a RFA. But, Im pretty sure they would rather move him for something that could help there team then just have him sit around

Advice to ignore Eklund? I never heard sth like that before. :sarcasm:

With the shortened season, this actually might be a possibility, but I doubt both sides would allow that to happen.

Stars need him to be in their top6 and one of the best young players needs to play, simple as that.

If that was the case, I assume he would ask for a trade, despite the fact his brother is in their system too.

Ryan is a consistent 30 goal scorer, and would definitely fill the goal void Parise left. That being said, I agree with Brit that it would cost a #2 center or defenseman, decent prospect, and a 1st or 2nd round pick.

If that's the case, I could live with that. For Bobby Ryan? That's awesome!

Bernier, or Josefson, one of our unproven AHLers and a 1st or 2nd? In a heartbeat.

Well regardless of anything involving Benn... take a look at the Stars D... they are our ideal trading partners.... Michael Ryder I'm looking at you!

He's basically holding out right? Like what Arnott, and Niedermayer did that year, and what Niedermayer did a few times. Either they're really lowballing him or he wants a lot I would have to think.

Im not sure if you could say holding out. They havent talked tooo much because of the lockout. Im pretty sure its a combo of them lowballing him and him wanting alot

I'm okay with trading a defenseman for picks. Someone else said a second round pick for 2014 so we have two that year. Then just signing Gomez. Or not signing Gomez, but sending away a defenseman for forward help. I have this idea we could end up moving two defensemen for the right offer.

That's what I was saying. In a perfect world I would like Lou to go out and get Michael Ryder for a second line or first line RW or Viktor Stalberg for the third line LW....

But I think Lou is more the kind of guy to bring back another reclamation project in Gomez for an abbreviated season... low risk high reward possibly bolstering our offensive group... then trading the excess defender (Tallinder/Volchy) for a second rounder to lessen the blow of losing a first next year.

I'd be okay with that. I find this week to have been incredibly slow though. Literally the biggest hockey news this week so far since the lockout ended was us extending Zajac, as far news on trades/signings go. Nothing on Lu, Sykie hasn't signed anywhere yet. It's been slow. Zajac, and then Boucher to the Flyers (Was just waived anyway) has been the biggest news.

Why would Dallas want to trade Ryder?

I'm not saying they want to... but seriously look who is on their defense. They have two top four guys... two 5-6/bench guys... and a bunch of Corrente/Urbom type players. They need defensemen.

They have Morrow, Jagr, Benn, Eriksson, Ryder, Whitney, Fiddler, Derek Roy up front. I'm just saying they seem like a team we could trade with. Ryder is also an impending UFA.

Del Zotto also re-signed... but Luongo is going to go somewhere, Benn, Subban, and OReilly are still unsigned, Visnovsky is still pulling his crap... he doesn't want to play for the Isles and the KHL says they won't let him play in their league...

Gomez/Redden, Connolly put on waivers.... There's a lot going on.

I actually didn't know Del Zotto re signed. What I mean is we're not hearing about signings. I figured within hours Gomez or Redden at least one of them would be signed.

I really thought Sykora would have been picked up by now, but he probably just wanted to miss training camp like he did morning skates last year!

Yeah the Sykora thing is weird. Walsh even said he was playing in the NHL this year so it sounded like he had a hard line on a possible deal.

I guess I am up to date on all this stuff because I listen to the Fan590 every day at work. I know way more about the Leafs than I want to right now.

Also Lombardi got traded to Phoenix.

You have to look at it this way. Teams have until 3pm tomorrow to submit their rosters. How is a team going to make a new signing or a trade and then insert him into camp to see where they fit or can get any chemistry going.
