Phaneuf/Scuderi
Gardiner/Ferrence
Franson/Gunnar

that gives us
our shut down
our trouble makers (just with Gards speed alone)
and our dependables

[but Pi pointed out that LA has cap space now to sign Scuderi].

I'd let Rielly play in Junior one more year I guess since he can't do AHL yet.
blacker/Holzer fight for 6/7

Trade/Buyout
Lilies.
Fraser.

(I'd go "boom!" but truthfully, I don't know if that works Cap wise or not, but that's what I have in my head right now).

That is a very expensive defense, I would sign Scuderi, not Ference, and Trade Franson in a package for a top young C.

Scuderi-Phaneuf
Gunnar-Gardiner
Fraser-Rielly

With the cap going down, I would expect a good number of trades to happen and some decent players changing uniforms, teams will be trading to reduce their cap and will take draft picks and prospects, so there could be some pretty good players involved at tomorrow's draft.

+ the players who want to test (aka let the crazies spend the monies), the market, and see what happens. this is going to be one crazy crazy off season.

Lecavalier is the guy to target for our no.1 center. I would offer him 5x5 for a deal. Then I would draft Gauthier with the 21st pick. Vinny could be his mentor. Also signing Clarkson would be good for Kadri and Lupul. 4 million max tho. If not him I would try a reclamation with Clowe. Trade Grabovski anywhere for whatever. Trade for Clutterbuck. D'Amigo and Grannberg/Nilsson. Bolland would be a target for no. 3 center. Colbourne Blacker and third for him. Second maybe if we had to. Run Vinny, Kadri, Bolland, and Mcclement that would be four real good centers suited for each of there roles. Buyout Komisarek. Trade Liles for second/third whatever u get there would be a market. Keep Dion. Franson. Gardiner.Rielly. Try and sign Ference/Scuderi. Maybe get another dman Robidas. Maybe a Theo Peckham to replace Fraser if he wants to much. Many options this weekend.

If the Leafs can build a solid defense and get Ference and Scuderi, they would do themselves a huge favor.

A solid defense + one young center (ROR? can't be traded till the trade deadline, I know) = Leafs well on their way to being Cup contenders.

Phaneuf, Rielly, Gunnarsson, Gardiner, Scuderi, Ference. That's a good defense for a contending team.

With all these names being thrown around, I get the feeling nonis is in discussions with somebody not even rumored to be on the move. Hopefully an impact player.

I am sorry, I do not want Vinny on this team at all. I may be the only one, but the guy has lost a step, is injury prone, getting up there in age as well. The guy is a coaster, he has all the talent to be a ppg player and dominate, he just chooses not to. There is a reason why he wants another long term contract after getting that cash from the buyout. He wants security where if he decides to coast again, he is still getting paid.

If he was good, he would take a 1 year contract at reduced money and go get himself a title chance. He could easily go to Chicago for like a million and be a good #2 center, play with great players like Hossa and Sharp, and probably win another cup and be a free agent next year with increased value. The only think this guy cares about is money and I dont want those type of people anywhere near my team

Think rationally. I would not give two ***** about the Stanley Cup if I am 33 and teams are lining up to give me 20-30M on a team of my choosing.

No good player is going to play for 1M in his early 30s.

I definitely agree on other points though. I have been on the "No to Lecavalier" side ever since he got bought out. Leafs don't need B. Richards 2.0.

Lecavalier has accomplished everything he wants. Hockey is just a hobby now...he's not a guy that will put his body on the line in the playoffs.

oh right. and not at the trade cost it will hit us too, since Shero wants a roster player, a 1st pick and a prospect. but like I mentioned up thread - i am just giddy that a player like him wants to play for us. that makes me happy. :)

and you know - I just have this feeling unless Vinny wants to play in Montreal/Detroit specifically - Nonis will do everything in his power to do so. (which makes me think that's why Fraser got a two way, we're 100 percent buying out Komi (or trading him)... something is happening.

so you basically don't like Ferrence?
Because Scuderi is 34 too. (I'm open to either one mind you I don't care. if it were possible to get both, more power to Nonis  )

notdoneyet: thanks. so either way - the player had to have been on your team by the trade deadline. (which seriously makes me have to wonder why the NHL was all anti "trade a heavy contract" stuff because the player would have been on the team for a while anyway.).

Daisy - there are two buyout periods - the first before the start of free agency - you can buyout anyone during this phase - even players you trade for right now

the second is around salary arbitration - during this period to buyout a player he has to have been on your trade deadline roster. You cannot trade for a player and buy him out during this phase.

I hope Seguin stays in Boston. Feel like his potential is going to be wasted there, which is a good thing for us Toronto fans. :)

Is this based on pure speculation or what?
