It's going to be a real bidding war, to sign Lecavalier but I think "Chuck Woods" said he wants to stay in the East and it may be down to 3 teams, Montreal, Toronto and Detroit.

Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: Teams are allowed to talk to Vincent Lecavalier, but can’t sign him until July 5th

and I think out of all three of us, we have the best opportunity financially to offer the best contract. truthfully, I would go, hard out for him. then get Clarkson, Ferrence, boom.

Personally, I think it's the fault of the fans for setting their expectations too high.

bang on !.....when was the last time any earth shattering news came from a draft day or trade deadline day ....gees NBA teams draft players no 1 and trade them

Still the fans' fault in my opinion. If they weren't so impatient, there'd be less to feed off of.

I disagree, despite what the fans want, they should act like professional reporters, not like tabloid writers.

These guys all want to be first to report things so they throw anything out there without confirmation. They use phrases like "some are suggesting..." and "speculation is..." and hide behind unnamed sources in a quest for ratings and page hits. I think they created the demand for up to the minute "information" to fill air time on two 24 hour sports radio stations and feed off the idiots who buy what they are selling.

I am downright shocked, people said this would be the most active day before the draft in history.

Really odd

I would assume once the majority of free agents have signed the trade market will absolutely blow up. Probably a lot of teams want to see if they can get a guy for free before paying assets for one.

This weekend will probably set a lot of deals up to be made at a later date.

Clarkson, yes. Ference, no. I think one deal will be made tonight somewhere in the league.

Vancouver Canucks (payroll) $64,252,77 (cap space) $47,222 (signed) 17 (space available) $7,870

they are in sooo much trouble. seriously. even with the buyout, I don't even know how they are going to make this work, and i wonder who we could pilfer.

(how do we feel about Cam Barker?)

He's a god awful defence man. I prefer Kostka.

why no to Ferrence?
here is my argument.

part of the the Boston PK
(ergo could limit some of Phaneufs ice time)

Defenseman with a cup ring and experience

gives a little move-ability on the backend ie:
Phaneuf/Ferrence
or
Gardiner/Ferrence

giving us an option to either secure that third d pairing with Franson (I don't know if I'd move him up fully to second pairing yet, but I could be wrong with that).

the only two strikes against him could be (probably be)
A: his age (34)
B: his lack of speed (as we are speedy).

why are you against?

So how long until they announce we get Seguin?

I guess if we do it won't be Grabo going back haha.

I still think it'll be a real bidding war but Lecavalier had said, he wants a retirement contract, so I think he will be looking for a 5 year contract and that may be the deal breaker but you and I thought a 4 mill per year, for 5 years, would work and lots here thought it was too long, so we will have to wait and see.

If Clarkson or Ference come at a reasonable cap rate they would be good players to pick up, players like Letang, looking for 7.5-8 mill, I think are pricing themselves out of the market.

who would you trade for him.?

Seriously if that happened.....#mindblown(lyfunny)

I don't think it will but if it did I would seriously laugh. If Chara didn't smash Grabos face I would say him and a first and Colborne. I think it's tough love, they secretly love the guy they can't beat and if you can't beat him, well...

34 yr old whos already a 2nd /3rd pairing who will want $2-3M... There are just so many better options right now. Maybe when the dust settles and there is no one left and we need someone, but now? Nah. Doesnt do any one thing well enough to warrant targetting.

Would you guys do Gardiner+21st overall+Biggs/Leivo for Seguin?

Haven't we done enough for Boston already? There's 28 other teams we can deal with.

Is anybody else stoked our GM will be at work in the war room for free agency instead of feeding starving crack babies in South America or picking a fight with the internet? Yeah Burke did some good, but his humanitarian showboating when his team needed him on the job was a bit annoying.

Truthfully....
because it's Lecavalier, I would truly give him what he wanted. (I am not one hem ourselves in like this regarding cap dollars), but how often do legitimate #1 centres ACTUALLY hit free agency? this will give Kadri time to simmer on the 2nd line (and in year 3, you switch the two, if Kadri is ready to really step up). but either way win win in my mind personally.

so I'd actually front load it (because again, we're cap-ably :)laugh:) able to do that), but I personally wouldn't like to lose that opportunity on something like .5 million dollars, or the money is right, but we quibble on the year. to me, that would really help out on the Kessel front.

[i didn't know Letang was a UFA, i thought he had 1 year left to go... right, he does]

Chiarelli compared the guy to Stevey Y today.

I don't think that they are looking for a 1st in the botom third of the round, a guy with negative value and a 6'5" Centre prospect that they drafted in the first round and liked so much that they traded for a rental.

Lets leave burke out of this. Nonis WILL make some moves you can be sure of that. Dont want Seguin though... He's not the type of personality our team needs IMO.

Realistically, they only have a couple of days to figure this out. If they can't trade him, they'll have to waive them then buy him out before July 4th otherwise they'll carry his cap-hit all summer and be unable to sign any forwards.

I believe there is a second buyout period just before arbitration.

They stipulation for this buyout period is the player you are buying out has to have been on your trade deadline roster which luongo was so no problem with the buyout then

so hold up.
later on you can do the 2nd complience buyout on anyone, even if they weren't on your roster @ deadline?

so who?
3 million for a 2nd pairing with a cup ring, and experience, who works on a pk, making our PK even better...
