I know every team has their fan favourites/overvalued players, but Edler doesn't play against top competition, starts in the offensive zone more often than any other defenseman on his team, receives significantly more PP minutes than any other defenseman on his team (and scores about half his points that way), doesn't play on the top PK.... I mean come on. He's a good defenseman and I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't like him on their team, but let's be reality. He's not even a proven #1 defenseman at this point, let alone a top defenseman in the league worthy of $7M/year.

The fact that some bonehead might overpay for him doesn't necessarily mean he's worth that, or that signing him for what he's more realistically worth makes Gillis some maniacal contract-signing genius.

I think you are misunderstanding exactly what I am saying, I ain't saying edler is WORTH 7m, I am saying a team would give him 7m.

Much different.

I honestly think edler is a star d-man, but no superstar

Edler is basically a weaker Phaneuf who is worse in his own end.

I think 5.5 is fair price.

I feel like the Bruins are trying to turn him into Phil Kessel, which has hurt his natural development as a centerman. He doesn't have the explosiveness, shot or stickhandling of a Kessel.

I don't think he has the maturity to handle all the attention he got coupled with playing on a SC winner right away.
He thinks he's part of a hard working team but hasn't learned how to work hard yet.
IMO he needs a change of scenery in order to reach his potential.
Either that or maybe hes one of those guys that never grows up.

Starting to piss me off. Was hoping for at least a couple decent size deals.

The league will have to look at how to continue to add flexibility to teams to incite more potential movement. They started this in this most recent CBA... Guess theres more work to do.

I am downright shocked, people said this would be the most active day before the draft in history.

Really odd

Really deep draft and lots of activity. Pretty sure that's the mantra every year at this time.
Much like deadline day, the social media hype tends to over promise and under deliver.
Don't expect a brand new team by this time next week.

Ahh okay, my bad. I think I'm spending too much time on HFBoards the past couple days and my reading comprehension is slowly dwindling.

The mainstream sports media are getting to be like eklund by the day.

absolutely, The worst the market, the more players get who are on it. Edler would be one of t he only potential elite players available, and hes big, and he hits, and he is a D-man.

Some people would give him 7m, I have no doubt in my mind.

This is not a trait exclusive to Gillis. There's guys on every team, where if they were a UFA any given year, they'd be the top paid guys. Especially an RFA, where there's no reall danger of losing him. If Edler at 5 mill per as an RFA is considered good, Kessel at 5 mill per as an RFA is one of the best contracts in hockey (and it is, for now). Let's see how good Gillis is when signing and retaining plaeyers when teams are actually lining up to give Edler 7+ mil per and 6.75 m per for Keslar. When the plauers actually have some leverage.

Personally, I think it's the fault of the fans for setting their expectations too high.

You do realize the media is just giving fans what it appears fans want. It's not hard to see that fans want lots of rumors about potential trades and such so that's what the media gives us.

No surprise here, Been told Leafs have spoken with Vincent Lecavalier.

Sense is that Vincent Lecavalier will have shortlist of teams drawn up by tonight or tomorrow morning; either way, pre-draft...

It's going to be a real bidding war, to sign Lecavalier but I think "Chuck Woods" said he wants to stay in the East and it may be down to 3 teams, Montreal, Toronto and Detroit.

Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: Teams are allowed to talk to Vincent Lecavalier, but can’t sign him until July 5th
