What about a deal starting around Grabbo for Cammi. He wants out of Calgary and JF can't find anyone that wants him. Grabbo obviously isn't going to play in our top six and the Flames will need some NHL talent for the next few years. We use Cammi as a stop gap between JVR and Kessel. Sign Stastny next year.

Cammy's playing the left wing these days. I think he'd be a solid addition to our top-9 especially if Lupul goes down to injury again. My hope would be that he could play center though. I'm ok with it, but it's on the 2nd or 3rd tier of deals I'd be trying to make.

Good cap-relief though.

Cammy for Grabo and McKegg

If not pass, we can get Vinny or Weiss without giving up assets

The salary cap is unfair for many Canadian teams. The amount used in determining the cap hit is before tax... If it was an after tax number, then it would be better. It's funny how some people are quick to say that the Leafs are big blue and can handle any contract thrown their way but forget to realize that because of higher taxes, the players coming here get paid less than if they would have been had they been in a different team.

Players can and often will make (much) more in endorsements here than they relinquish in tax dollars compared to almost all other cities.

used to be on Friday evenings ...before that was Sat afternoons ...no idea why Sunday (other than before long weekend)

Its cuz of the lockout. I think the NHL wants to atleast have 6 days in between the finals ending and draft

You realize that taxes in California and New York are just as high if not higher than in Toronto, right? That doesn't seem to stop players from wanting to play in those places.

Edit: e.g., the federal rate for income >$400k is 39.6% plus 1.45% medicare tax, CA state tax is 13.3%, so in California for 2013 a player would pay a rate of 54.35% on most of their income. Meanwhile in Canada, the top federal bracket is 29% and the Ontario rate is 13.16%, which is only 42.16%. In fact you can probably count on one hand the number of states where a player would have a significantly lower tax burden than Toronto.

Edit2: Not to mention real estate is much more pricey in the aforementioned places than in Toronto. $1m in a decent area around San Jose might buy you a small townhouse.

I'm showing $5M with Savard ON there... so $9M without. Assume Peverly's gone, that's $12.5M. Assume Rask clocks in at $5.5M and Horton at $5.75M, that's $1.25M remaining.

IMO they then move to waive/compliance buyout Chris Kelly, and they have $4.25M to sign a couple bottom-6 forwards, a depth defenseman and a backup goalie.

Seems ok to me...

Yeah, if that's without Savard they should be fine. It'll still be tight though.

I thought the same thing when I saw he wants out if Calgary. Worse case, he fills MacArthur / frattin's spot. I would think flames would want additional piece though.

Ugh. Don't want to get my hopes up but it's hard not to get excited now with the names that have been tossed around in the last couple days.

I bet he's just holding a general news conference because he's getting lots of the same questions from different media members. Address everyone at once.

If there was something up, I'm sure the sports media would be killing themselves trying to find out what it was so they could report it 20 minutes before the announcement.

Probably just speaking about the draft, basically what MacTavish did a couple days ago.
