We do not want Heatly he is a negative asset to acquire Coyle
Minny needs a top 4 D

We deal a top 4 D on a good contract plus eat $ 7.5m for a year for Coyle its a fair deal

Minny has Granlund a C as top prospect so he could replace Coyle

Coyle is the big #2C we need..

Give it up - Coyle is not going anywhere, despite your best posted argument.

"Rumors" around the NHL suggest that Nonis and Chia have been chatting quite a bit lately, with speculation that Peverly could be a topic of discussion.

He'd be a real nice addition to that 3rd line slot.

Kadri
Peverly
McClement

- Clutterbuck could still very much be a viable option to the Leafs if they wish to flex their financial muscle and look towards the issues of MIN. With Frattin moved, I thought it was dead in the water;

Grain of salt, always!

Thanks Chuck, but please, no more trades with Chia-pet!!!

I'd be quite happy with Peverly & Boychuk. Boychuk is rugged (as I'm sure we all know watching him line up our forwards in the post-season) and can log effective 2nd pairing minutes, and frankly seems like the perfect partner for a guy like Gardiner. Peverly had a rough season but after reading up on him he was playing with pylons for most of the season, but he still has upside. The combination of the two should improve our club substantially.

Until we play Boston. It's a very small top-4 TBH, although it's an extremely mobile one. We'd benefit from speed and scoring from our blue line but would have difficulty playing big teams and clearing the front of our net. Our PK% will likely drop and while our GPG will increase the result of our offensive production we'll also incur increases to our GAPG.

Yeah a bit small but should be able to skate circles around the opposition.

Speed is HUGE on the back end and size n' grit could be in the bottom pairing.

Fraser - Holzer

Still a bit of a pipe dream and i am still convinced all this Letang to T.O is just to drive up the price on Pitt.

Really like the fact Letang is a RHS though.. We NEED a mobile RHD that can keep up with either Gards or Rielly.

I dont think they wanna move Boychuk. They're letting Ference go so they can retain the guys they have. I dont think they let Ference go if they move Boychuk.

We're in a world of hurt if our bottom pairing is Fraser - Holzer. It's probably the most immobile bottom pairing in the league, and they'd play very, very limited minutes. Ugh... I shudder to think....

They have to shed more salary if they want to re-up Horton... but you're probably right in that they wouldn't give him to us.

Kris Letang only adds to the already breakneck speed the leafs play at. And hes not soft, and is above average defensively even if not perfect.

Im sorry, but if you are icing rielly, gardiner, letang, etc with the forwards we have, the simple ability to move the puck and play with it will be remarkable.

Not to mention even the big guys we have acquired can move, JVR, Ashton, Biggs etc. I like Letang, and am wary of the price but he is incredible.

It would be for select games and we could sub Liles in most of the time.

I feel a mobile D suits our game and speed through the neutral zone. NTM that Letang is RHS that we need desperately.

BUT as said before, I think this is all tactics by his agent to drive the price up on Pitt.

Doubtful Boston sends Johnny anywhere within the Division.

There's still a few domino's that need to fall in Boston before they need to sell off Boychuk.

Jagr and Ference wont be returning, and it sounds as if Peverley may be on his way out at the draft as well.

That should free up an adequate amount of space for them to try to re-sign the pieces they want.

But only time will tell, and as a fan of hockey in general, I cannot wait to see what happens Sunday!

I really don't think Colborne has any trade value.
He has little trade value right now but apparently his wrist injury was much more serious than I thought and he played with it for the better part of two years. I think one year to see if he can be at least a solid 3rd line center is worth a shot. If he can play decent defensively and chip in with 12-15 goals, play 12-15 minutes a night and holy crap maybe learn to be a reasonable face off man, then he would ban asset to the team. I think he deserves a fair chance to see what he can do while healthy.....Never know.

Frankly I'm a bit surprised we haven't seen more action already. This seems to be the quietest of mornings out of the last 2 or 3 days... little to no action so far.

They're gonna be hard-pressed sign both Horton and Rask. CapGeek says that they have about 4 million in space with 2 goalies, 1 forward (Horton) and 1 defender to sign. Though I don't know if this includes Savard or not.

Chuck,

Any insight as to what may happen with our blue line? I'd argue a partner for Dion is our No1 need. Most of the trade "rumors" deal with forwards....

Is this something we should expect Nonis to (attempt to) address via free agency (Ference, Scuderi etc)? Or are there some dmen on the market we're looking at via trade?

I'm showing $5M with Savard ON there... so $9M without. Assume Peverly's gone, that's $12.5M. Assume Rask clocks in at $5.5M and Horton at $5.75M, that's $1.25M remaining.

IMO they then move to waive/compliance buyout Chris Kelly, and they have $4.25M to sign a couple bottom-6 forwards, a depth defenseman and a backup goalie.

Seems ok to me...

What about a deal starting around Grabbo for Cammi. He wants out of Calgary and JF can't find anyone that wants him. Grabbo obviously isn't going to play in our top six and the Flames will need some NHL talent for the next few years. We use Cammi as a stop gap between JVR and Kessel. Sign Stastny next year.

Peverley could be a good addition at the right price. Solid defensively, good on faceoffs, can kill penalties, but with more offensive upside than a guy like McClement who is probably better suited to the 4th line/top PK.

Why would cammy just instantly slot into our top 6 if Grabo can't?
