2013 Free Agency & Offseason Thread II

LeBlanc? Gallagher?

LeBlanc isn't as good as Vey, Toffoli, Kozun, or Pearson and being a center/RW his chances of sticking on the roster would be basically zero for the foreseeable future. He would be an AHL guy, nothing more.

Gallagher is very similar to Kozun. We already have a smallish RW who has routinely put up more points than Gallagher. If Kozy isn't on the roster there is no reason to think that Gallagher would stick.

If Clifford is moved I'd like the following players in return

NJ-Matteau
Buffalo- Foligno
Pitt- Maatta
Winn- Lowry or Sutter and a 2nd rd pick
Det- Tatar

Why does everyone assume Clifford is on his way out? They just brought in Carcillo without giving up a roster player. Chances are, Nolan may be the most likely player to be moved, followed by Colin Fraser.

So, this is what may be happening. Makes sense.

On Kings Clifford trade talk, separate league source says contract negotiations far apart, kick started inquiries by LA. Nothing imminent,<<<

Has Bernstein ever been right on anything when he's not piggybacking from other reporters?

Bourque strikes me as the type of player who scores on a bad team.

And the cap is an issue. We didn't sign Penner because we didn't have the cap space. He just signed for $2 million with the Ducks.

I think that was DL's way of saying that Penner wasn't worth 2M. In any case, by trading Clifford and Martinez, that's 2M+ right there, so, we're only adding 1M, so, no, cap isn't an issue. Bourque is making 3.33M btw.

i wouldnt be oppose to seeing bourque as a king I think sutter would be the right coach to get the most out of him As for the cap thing maybe montreal keeps some of his salary I would rather trade king or nolan but im sure most would know that from me.

Matteau is the antithesis of what Dean is doing here. He's a ****ing head case and a half. No to Sutter. Everyone else wouldn't be terrible.

Exactly. It's quite possible though that NO ONE moves and the two spots we need to clear could be Schultzerby.

"@DennisTFP: Funny how things change from one phone call. Reliable league source now says Kings actively shopping Kyle Clifford."

Sorry don't know how to do tweets.

After subtracting Clifford, Martinez, and Ellerby and adding Bourque, you're left with $779,000 in cap space for Lewis, Nolan, and any injury call-ups you need during the season.

God I hate twitter. The armpit of the Internet

You must not understand how to fully use it then. Breaking hockey news the second it happens, as well as other news, and hot chicks who post skimpy photos of themselves for the world to stare at. :sarcasm: ;) :naughty:

The Kings have a little over $2M in cap space left and have three RFAs to re-sign with Trevor Lewis, Kyle Clifford, and Jordan Nolan still without contracts.

Assuming the Kings re-sign all three forwards, and with the newest additions to the roster, the Kings roster stands at 25 players (14 forwards, 9 defensemen, 2 goalies).

The Kings will have to trim the roster by 3 players eventually, and most of the competition appears to be at left wing, openings on the bottom six, and for the 7th defense slot.

I view the signing of Carcillo as an upgrade over Brad Richardson, in the sense that the Kings got themselves an even bigger pest who can get under the opponents skin. Toffoli or Frattin will be replacing Penner as the #2 LW, and a combination of Clifford, King, Nolan, Carcillo, Fraser, and one of Toffoli or Frattin will be competing for bottom six positions, with the guaranteed locks being Stoll and Lewis. So that leaves six players battling for four positions in the bottom six.

Schultz and Ellerby will be competing against each other to see who will be the next designated Davis Drewiske, and Martinez will be competing with Muzzin to see which left handed defenseman pins down the left side on the third defensive pairing.

Competition is healthy.
