Biron is scheduled to make $1.3 million, Talbot $562,500... I'm no maths wiz, but is just short of $750K... Money for Stepan?

Either / or ... always believed a backup goalie... especially when you have the BEST goalie in the world... shouldn't make more than $1. Period.

Agreed, but we need a more adequte backup then Hedberg or Calbot, if that's the route we want to go. With Emery and Mason both getting nearly 1.5, i see no reason as to why we should be paying a backup 1.3 this season.

Biron is capable though and unless we get someone still out there, ala thomas or bryz for like a million bucks, i don't see any way we can cut Biron for Hedberg or Talbot.

Am I crazy for getting excited about Lindberg? I really feel like the Rangers landed themselves a special player in that trade. What's holding him back from being a Zetterberg-type unexpected superstar?

that's quite the comparison. But if his offense keeps developing I see him being Zetterberg-lite. Same style of play. I'm very excited about him too.

That's going a bit overboard. Let's wait and see how he looks in actual games before throwing superstar or even star around. He hasn't even played in a preseason match yet. Remember, we'd already be hitting the jackpot if he just turns out to be a top-notch defensive center with a decent offensive game.

I like Lindberg but i do think some are going overboard after 1 scrimmage against mostly prospects. He needs to show he can go against all NHL players

1 scrimmage, 1 WC, 1 dominant SEL campaign. I mean, yeah, that's a lot of "1s", but they start adding up. This kid looks really, really good.
Um Im not bashing the kid. I am one of his biggest fans. In fact i think he should be on the team especialy if stepan is MIA. All i said is that people are calling him a star..which is a tad early lol

Haven't seen one person call him a star...

Today's Camp/Scrimmage

I expect that most of you here watched the scrimmage on the broadcast, but I do have some of my own thoughts, which include several things away from the puck.

First, although AV said that Talbot is in the hunt for the NHL backup, I don't think that this, in reality, will happen. It will be one of Biron or Hedberg. Talbot has no NHL experience and the Rangers have expressed clearly that they are looking for the cup. If Lundqvist goes down, you don't want your only option to be Talbot. He was never before considered a high end guy, never drafted, and only spent one year as the number one in Hartford.

I think that they let Talbot play in at least one pre-season game this week and then spend one more season in Hartford, getting solid experience there (hopefully including playoffs) and then let him back up next season. I believe that Hartford does not start their camp until next weekend, so if he plays now and then gets assigned to Hartford before the Western trip, that makes sense. I would be very surprised if they take Talbot out west.

I felt that Ryan McDonagh was the best skater on the ice today. He has unbelievable vision and can really distribute the puck so well. Also impressive was Derick Brassard, who looks like with some
work, he could be a number one center. He is excellent on faceoffs (beating Richards time and again), and creates plays so well. Also Brian Boyle is very strong in front of the net--he gets good position and is very hard to move away. He also does a good job when pucks are bouncing around in the crease.

I did not like Taylor Pyatt on a line with Oscar Lindberg and Jesper Fast. That line needed a more dynamic player, and although Lindberg got one goal, if they had a faster skater with them, even more could have happened.

John Moore can be a very exciting player---with good wheels and a quick release. He is still learning gap control, but he is only 22 and will get time to improve. He should get some great help from Beuk.

Finally, unless he does something really special over the two weeks (or another injury), expect Dylan McIlrath to start the season in Hartford.

That's it for today.

Well, the latest exchange in this thread started with me asking what's stopping him from being one (a star). I didn't call him a star, I asked why he won't be a star. Of course it's low probability that he turns into a dominant player, but I see a kid with all of the tools who seems to be progressing nicely and I would like to hear from someone who has seen more of him than I have the reasons why I should be tempering my expectations.

My question is why out of all the players in all the world that ever played professional hockey, you compare him to Zetterberg.

Again i have been a fan of Lindberg for a while. He has had a good training camp and was very good in the Traverse tournament However its still different from NHL level games. So we have to wait and see

I would have no problems with Brassard and or Boyle moving to wing, both transits real easily.

I think BR, Step and Lindberg are a little to stationary to play wing.

My lines:

Kreider-BR-Nash
Brassard-Lindberg-Zucc
Hagelin-Stepan-Callahan
Dorsett-Moore-Boyle

Good team.

You forgot about Poulet.

My question is why out of all the players in all the world that ever played professional hockey, you compare him to Zetterberg.

For mostly obvious reasons. Swedes, lefties, centres, same size, good seasons in the SEL as 19/20 year olds. Zetterberg was also considered a defensive/two-way guy when he broke into the league. But go ahead and explain to me why my comparison is stupid.

So, in other words, you have no response other than he hasn't played in the NHL yet so he's a question mark. Not helpful.

Wow that was kind of a nasty response. I was trying to have a nice conversation about lindberg. Truthfully i am just as much of fan of his as you are. I was just trying to be honest. I never said he would struggle i said we have to see more

It may not be stupid, but I don't think they have all that similar playstyles. Zetterberg is/was a better skater, stickhandler, and a more "intense" player.

I do have big hopes for Lindberg though, he could develop into a legit 2-way 2C.

I expected a lot more from positive reports and news from McIlrath and Hrivik... Both probably in Hartford.
I thought Mcilrath looked pretty good. He was skating well and clearing the puck well. It will be tough for him because we have of alot of defensive depth

Well, since you asked, because those "obvious reasons" are just a few things they have in common and in no way, shape, or form an intelligent analysis of their games.

For anyone outside of the top 6, it will be very hard to crack the lineup... Probably with Falk going as #7 and probably Aaron Johnson as #8. McI probably needs another season in the AHL and become a force at that level.

So he's like Chris Kreider, just no NHL games?

Very excited for tomorrow's game. Looking forward to seeing some of the youngins.

Well i thought we were talking about lindberg. I mean i am very happy from what i have heard/seen for Lindberg so far. All i said is that it will be interesting to see him against other NHL teams. Thats not a shot in fact that me having good expectatiosn for his skills

So comparing guys that have a bunch of things in common is invalid. If you want to rewind a bit, I essentially asked for an "intelligent analysis of their games" because I conceded that I am unable to conduct one myself. I currently see two guys that indeed have a bunch of things in common and want to know why, in the end, A will not equal B.

We will be glad to give you analysis of players the best we can. It might not be "intelligent" enough but we will help as llong as you are respectful
