Between Talbot and Skapski, can we please now stop talking about the need to waste a top draft pick on a goalie, the most high risk position to draft? I am not opposed to drafting a goalie in the later rounds, but Talbot and Skapper give us enough depth not to freak out about it.

What's Skapski's potential?

Duclair has put on 30 lbs in two off seasons roughly, I wouldn't be too concerned about him bulking up. He's training with guys who know what it takes and has been for awhile. His skating puts him far ahead of some of the players he's been compared to in this thread.

It's always tough to say with goalies. I also don't know enough about the position (in hockey anyway) to make a real projection on a kid still in junior hockey.

He's a gamer that seems to play better when he faces more shots. Richter was like that. 20 shots against and he'd give up three. 40 shots against and he'd play out of his mind and pitch a shutout. Skapski also has the "amazing save" attribute, where he seems to always be good for one or two awesome saves each night. I didn't notice him having any problems with rebound control in the few games of his that I watched this year.

Decent NHL starter potential? I didn't see any glaring deficiencies. Like I said though, I don't know enough on how to evaluate a young hockey goalie to really say.

Is he a positional goalie or more of a reflex type guy?

Troy Donnay was scoreless last night. His line on the season: 55 GP, 1G/12A/13P, +27 with 76 PIM. Good year for him. Anyone see him recently? Erie fans have been happy with his play and reportedly he has made serious improvements in his skating this year.

Calle Andersson had a primary assist and was +1. His line: 39 GP, 2G/10A/12P, +1 with 6 PIM. He's might be the most intriguing prospect in our system, since every report that comes out about him is pretty upbeat, and yet 99% of us have never seen him play. Anyone know his contract status? Can we bring him over next year?

i wanna know does he have a commitment to come to North America to play in the AHL or is he one of those personalities that wants a 1 way contract or a spot on the team? im interested to see how he progress.. maybe another younger version of Stralman. dont know much about Andersson to be honest.

It's been a bit of tough last 6 month for Calle Andersson. He missed the entire off-season and first month of the season. His play has been a bit inconsistent.

He is a good prospect; but he is definitely very much in the underdeveloped category. He 6'3 and real thick, needs to slim down while adding muscle. Smart and poised player. Good RH shot. He was a real standout in our rookie camp a while back, and I don't think he is of the grid.

I am not sure how it works, do we loose if rights if he doesn't sign before the draft?

He is not like Stralman, he is far more offensively minded (especially at this point in Stralman's career). He is a smooth skater and has a booming shot from the point. RD.

Stop the presses. Boo Nieves FINALLY scored. Wide open in front of the net all by himself. 24 game drought is over.

still not a fan of this pick.. for some reason i can see him not getting signed...

Barring injury I expect Nieves is going to be signed. Very good size and very good wheels and hands. Playing for Red Berenson is a hockey education in itself. Nieves is much more the passer than a shooter by the way. Disappointing season though nonetheless.

Boo's not untouchable but he's a four year project. He's had a rough season, it could be for many reasons. If he has a solid Frozen Four Tournament, no one will remember his season.

Let him finish the year, come to Development Camp, and work on his diet and training with Reg Grant. There's no pressure or hurry on him to turn pro.

Most of the college kids are 3 year players. Hagelin was a 4 year player. I like Nieves. The Rangers shouldn't give up on him. Michigan put him on left wing and then moved him back to center. The Rangers signed Lindberg and Fast to ELCs. Both of them were loaned back to the teams in Sweden. The Rangers can do the same thing with Andersson.

RB- Yeah, I am wondering if it's a borderline decision if they think it's worth it though (to give CA an ELC). I recon it comes down to what alternatives they have at hand.

He can make really good plays on the ice, but overall he is still real raw. It was one thing for him to be that when he was 18, but at 20 they might think he need too much work. It would be good if he could get some more time before a decision is taken.

By the way, Duclair was scoreless last night. Looks like Victoriaville absolutely dominated Quebec - they shut them out, allowing only 17 shots on goal (none by Duclair).

Meanwhile both Tambellini and Graves had goals in their teams' wins.

Skapski's situation is similar to what talbot's was in college. He'd carry the team and get a LOT of work every game. It is only good that Skapski is getting the work and experience that he has been getting. AND he's been succeeding
