I disagree. For a defenseman, his shot is a plus tool. Yeah, it's not on par with Weber or Chara, but those guys have an elite tool (or plus-plus, if we're using baseball scouting terms).

It wouldn't be the best on the team, I agree. It might be the best amongst our defenseman though.

I think this whole thing stemmed from the comment that his shot is as good as Thomas' which is absurd.

What's also funny is I never heard mention of Skjei's shot until some scout wrote about it at the beginning of the year. Since than there's been a growing contingent that praise his shot.

I've seen him plenty and it has never really stood out to me.

Sure, I'd agree with that. I think you'd also agree that that's a world away from comparing him to Christian Thomas. Or from saying that he'd have the best shot on the team.

Yeah. I understand that this is a discussion board and people want to discuss things and share opinions, but there's so much about prospects that ends up being a game of telephone and bandwagoning.

Earlier I inquired about status of Randy McNaught.

Gathered he was injured for good.

Yet I see him on the prospects roster at the official site last time I looked, no LTIR etc.

Did I miss something?
Is he truly still out of commission? Permanently?
Is there some technical reason he remains on the roster?
Or is it a (Christmas) miracle, and he's on the mend?

My hopes are not high, bottom 6 RW, likely 4th line --- but --- he can really fight, would take some of that duty off McIlrath's hands down the road, Asham buh bye after this year, and I would rather get a 3rd for Dorsett/3rd+ for Dorsett+, so this guy would be a solid cheap option as enforcer/power checker.

Anyone got an update?
Thanks in advance.

McNaught is barely a CHL level player.

Why every player whose name has Mc in it seems to be a fighter is an interesting question.

I do agree. I don't really see any reason to compare a defenseman's shot to a forward's to begin with.

There's still some element of that silliness where people claim to be experts on a guy but really just read scouting reports. It's not as bad as it used to be. With HockeyStreams and a decent cable sports package you can watch like 80% of our prospects' games. I won't speak about a guy I haven't watched.

As for McNaught, I found him on Facebook a while back and sent him a message. He said he was done with professional hockey. I guess the ankle injury/surgery destroyed his game.

Hedican was an underachiever. He had Niedermayers skill set and it just never materialized. Spent the bulk of his long career as a complimentary guy but somewhat effective.

Hedican was on the 92 team that almost medaled in Albertville. Skjei is a 1st round pick who needs to be groomed to run an offense and play 25 mins a game.

It's funny how people hated the pick because he was a defender but now it looks like a great pick in the wake of Staal, MDZ and Girardi sucking turds

Defensemen are like lefthanded pitchers in baseball: you can never have too many of them.

On the genealogy of Mc/Mac names. Pretty much when you see a Mc/Mac it means Ireland or Scotland. The Mc/Mac designates 'son of' in Gaelic--the root language of both those nationalities which had Celtic origins. The O' (as in O'Reilly or O'Callahan or O'Donnell) again designates 'son of' but is pretty much exclusive to Ireland. There are some Irish McIlrath's and McNaught's but both names really came out of Scotland.

As for our particular McNaught--whether he's listed on the official Rangers page or not--he's no longer property of the Rangers and no longer playing as far as I know. Can't trade him Bern no matter how much you might want to.

team USA up 2-0..... Ryan Hartman gets an assist Hawks top prospect... Riley Barber and Will Butcher scored PP goals, Zach Stepan cousin of Derek Stepan is playing for team USA

Jack Eichel looks great. Can someone tell me why he isn't eligible for the 2014 draft? Wasn't he born in 1996? If he was 2014 Draft eligible, he would easily go #1.

Skjei's point shot got through traffic where Jake Slavin buried the rebound. He's having a great game.
