when is the WJC? is it televised anywhere? which prospects are expected to play in it? would Buch be back from his concussion? would Duclair go? honestly i would watch those games just to see how those 2 play.

WJC starts soon, like in the next few days. Not exactly sure when, but pre camp was today. Most of the games should be televised on NHL Network.

Skjei is playing for the US. He was on their top pair in this game, and as I said, scored the game winner.

Duc didn't get an invite. Not a huge deal, neither did Max Domi, and he just put up 11pts in 4 games (thank you, Don Cherry).

I believe Buch is playing. Not sure about his injury status.

yea i knew it was soon just not sure when the actual start was. kinda surprised Duclair and Domi didnt get invites. thank you.

I think we all knew Skjei was a lock, but to play on the top pair?

Awesome news, very excited for this tournament.

Didn't see a ton of the game, but he was pretty solid from the snippets I saw. Actually got called on a penalty shot for slashing down on a guy's stick, even though it didn't break. Honestly didn't think it was a penalty, let alone a penalty shot. Didn't see the goal unfortunately.

Don't know if anyone has saw this:

François Parenteau

Une rumeur veut que le défenseur Samuel Noreau (Rangers) revienne terminer la saison avec le #Drakkar de Baie-Comeau. C'est à suivre. #LHJMQ

Seems Noreau is going back to the Q as an overager. Pretty disappointing.

Just a rumour, and not one of those «rumours» that are as good as official. Possible, but far from a fact.

Since I don't follow RDS or Quebecois writers I'm not sure who's reliable. Is Francois Parenteau reliable?

That would be bad for his development, and a bad sign of his future chances.

Noreau's 0 points is not a good sign. Obviously he's not an offensive defenseman, but if you are on the ice enough minutes, you stumble upon a few assists just by sheer luck. Hell, Lundqvist has an assist. You throw the puck to a random player, sooner or later a goal will result from that.

That Noreau has no points is a sign that he probably isn't on the ice very much.

His lack of PIM points to the same. I suspect that - considering the game that he plays and that he's tougher than McIlrath - Noreau would've had many more than 33 penalty minutes in 22 games if he were on the ice a lot.

If Noreau really has trouble at the ECHL level, it's not a good sign at all. Normally, if you get sent down to the ECHL, you should be very good at that level, knocking on the AHL door within half a season or at most one season. When that doesn't happen, the odds of ever making the NHL aren't good.

But we always knew Noreau is a high risk when he was first drafted. Huge, tough defensemen don't last to the 5th round until they are very, very long-shots.

P.S. I love the comments from last year when people were wondering why in the world we needed to "waste" a #10 pick on McIlrath when we can draft an equivalent prospect like Noreau in the 5th round. So now one is a borderline NHLer and the other is a borderline ECHLer/SPHLer. Equivalent players indeed.

Looks like Noreau was in the Greenville lineup tonight with a fight and 2 SOG. He's played in 23 of their 27 games so far. I would think Dodero, who has barely played, would be cut from the Warriors before Noreau. I would hope he can spend the year in the ECHL and get a shot with the Pack next year.

Yes, in the sense that if he says there's a rumour running, there is one. But that doesn't mean it's more than hearsay, he could convey a rumour that makes some noise but is baseless.

The two biggest Q newsbreakers (not sure that's even a word) are Stéphane Leroux (RDS) and Mikaël Lalancette (TVA Sports). If they seem to imply something in a tweet, there more than likely is a fire for the smoke.

Buchnevich will play on the first line with Grigorenko and Slepyshev.

To be fair, Greenville is having problems scoring, especially from the blueline. Only 5 goals from the current bunch of blueliners on the roster and their big offensive d-man, Mike Marcou, has a total of 7 points. Noreau is at least a plus defensemen on a team with a lot of minus players, including Andrew Carroll at -20.

Can someone tell me what Skjei projects to become? With Staal's uncertainties this is a pick that's looking really good right about now.

I've heard Bret Hedican thrown around as a realistic comparable for Skjei.

Great skater, good defensively, sometimes prone to skating himself out of position, not a whole lot of offense. Probably tops out as a 3/4/5.

Hard to project what Skjei will become. He's the kind of player that has such a great set of tools that it's really going to come down to how well he can process the game at the NHL level to determine his upside. Sometimes that offensive game comes around as a player develops, but that shot of his could be a real weapon if he can get it off quickly.
