Wow, I have to tip my hat to the Jets. After the media killed them in the off season and off a 3 game losing streak when all looked lost, they are really resilient. I am not a Jets fan but I am curious from the Jets fans on the board. Even if you drop the game in Carolina (which isn't a guarantee - any team can win). The playoffs look like a possibility. What are the elimination scenarios? I was looking and if Baltimore wins one more game and the Jets drop one, that would eliminate them? (due to tie breaker?). Baltimore has 3 tough games. I think the Jets can beat Cleveland and Miami.
I don't know the exact scenarios, but it's quite a long shot. We basically need to win out and hope that Baltimore wins one or fewer games. Pretty much everyone holds a tiebreaker over us at the moment.
It's okay, though, if we miss the playoffs. We've seen some good things from the team this year. Wilkerson has emerged as one of the top defensive players in the game. Richardson looks fantastic, and Harrison came out of left field to become a terrific DT. Kenrick Ellis has been tremendous when healthy, and Coples is a solid player. Antonio Allen looks like he could be a player, and Landry has been good. Walls and Lankster have proven to be good depth guys and great on ST. Milliner has struggled but looks to be improving. Overall, the defense has been good, and whatever holes we have should be easily filled in the offseason.
Offensively, not so much. Mangold and Ferguson can still be elite players, but they need
some help on their sides. The guard play this year has been an abomination. Winters, Ducasse and Aboushi have all been busts. Winters may become something down the road, but right now, he sucks. We've seen good things out of Ivory this year, Bohanon looks like a keeper and Cumberland is a good TE2. Obviously the biggest questions are at QB, WR and TE1. I think addressing the two guard spots and adding some actual talent at the WR spot will solve the QB "issue," to some degree anyway. The Jets defense should be elite moving forward, so really they just need an offense that's not terrible.
It's been a successful season for the Jets. Even if they lose out, really, it will have been better than the "experts" predicted. The team has a boatload of picks and cash to spend this summer, so things seem to be looking up.
