"Minor concussion".

There are no "minor concussions".

The Rangers never used that term.

Second documented concussion in less than three years.

He doesn't have full vision in the right eye. Blurry vision.

No reason to be concerned.

I would tend to agree. It's not a "minor concussion". It's still significant brain trauma.

They are predicting staal will be back soon but you never know with concussions. Could just as easily become worse tomorrow

Don't forget Lindros, Lafontaine.

Lindros played with the Stars and Leafs after the Rangers.. yea Pat LaFontaine. thanks to Mike Keane

Jeff Beuekeboom was another one lost to concussions

Lindros was pretty remarkably healthy in his time with the Rangers considering the state he was in when acquired. He played two more seasons after his time in New York.

Yes, but he was a shell of himself, would not engage in anything that might give him another concussion. I fear Staal may have to go that route also, which makes his value even less.

Meh, I feel like that only describes his second season in New York.

I just want Staal to be healthy. He's a been a very good Ranger. I wish him the best. Just rest big guy.

Please use this thread for injury news only. You can talk about team toughness in the other thread.

I don't know. I thought Lindros was good when he was here.

So would someone going and punching someone in the face prevent the opposing team from making a legal hit on staal?

The answer is no. Fighting is never going to prevent a legal hit. It just won't.

If you want a reaction to some dirty hit sure. But it's never going to prevent a legal hit.

Just look at the pens bruins game. Did Thornton pummeling Orpik into the ice prevent Erikssons concussion? Of course not.

Boston is one of the most physical intimidating teams in the league, and that absolutely does not prevent opposing teams from hitting their players. Legally or otherwise

Pens aren't going to be playing with Orpik for a while either. That's payback and Orpik is an important part of their D--almost if not on the same level of importance to his team as Eriksson is the Bruins. IMO Orpik over the course of his career has been the giver of numerous borderline crossing over to dirty hits. His knee to knee on Stepan is what got Torts screaming about the leagues bias towards Crosby and Malkin. IMO it's about time Brooks Orpik got some of his own medicine. I feel 0 sympathy for him. You give then you should have to take.

That being said the hit on Staal was just a hockey hit--there wasn't any particular malice on Boucher's part. Staal came in too low for one thing. Boucher is not a big player. Even so--should the Rangers retaliate for it?--Why not?--if they had the capability to do so--but they don't. Our team is s-o-f-t. As for Staal's future--this is a setback but that doesn't mean his career is over. It's concerning though. The eye is another concern. His trade value if that was in anyone's mind just plummeted. But then there's Jeff Skinner who is another concussion waiting to happen. And maybe even Crosby for another. Marc Staal is not the only one.

there are definitely degrees of concussions...ive had several, and you can tell the difference between a minor one and a major one....its the difference between being totally fine in a few days, and being totally fine in a few years...

he didnt get injured, he got traded as part of the deal for Derek Morris and then played about 2 years on the Coyotes and the left the NHL

PunkRock-Yes he did, but he was never the same after that sprained MCL vs. the Flyers right before the Olympic Break in 2006.

That and the beatings he'd take plus not having much size, and he was an ineffective player by year 3.

It sucks for Staal but in this instance it wasn't a dirty play or anything remotely close to that. He just got smacked and got a concussion.

Just shut down Staal for as long as it takes...honestly, he hasn't looked the same since he came back and shouldn't be back until he's 100% .

He's never going to be 100%. Especially when he doesn't play.

Have his timing off a bit and he's going to get crunched more

i hope he announces soon that he is going to sit out the rest of the year.. put him on LTIR.. no chance of risking health due to this type of injury...
