It isn't too much to ask to not be left in the dark about our players.

They won't even officially acknowledge he has a concussion... nor did they last year.. despite it being obvious.

I understand we as fans have no real "right" to know this stuff or to be kept updated... but it seems other teams don't pull the crap we do.

they did...AV mentioned he had headaches and stuff...i mean, obviously that means concussion even if they didnt mention that word per-se.

i think the problem here is that with concussions there is no prognosis. it could take 3 days, it could take 3 months, it could take 3 years.

ive had 3 or 4 concussions over the past 8 years...one only took a few days to get over, one took about 6 months.

and oddly enough i felt the one that i got over quicker was a much harder hit than the one that took me 6 months.

the brain is a tough thing to diagnose.

So what relevance is there between a broken thumb and not wanting to give a player a long term contract? I fail to see the connection.

Callahan is injury prone due to his style of play. His style of play is why he is effective. Its a catch-22.

An 8 year contract until the age of 37 would be a disaster.

yeah, but its not like his injuries are chronic, like Gabbys are. you cant predict broken bones...even with a style of play....unless he has osteoporosis or something.

Dan Girardi blocks more shots than anyone, and hes rarely injured...hes physical, plays big minutes...sure, hes got a larger frame, but hes also a lot "luckier" as well.

8 years contract wouldnt bother me for cally....depending on the price tag.

Darroll Powe is a really safe choice for a call up if you want a 4th line defensive minded forward with almost no offense.

In any case I kind of agree with Bleed Ranger Blue. It's annoying that some people have such a hard time understanding that concussion injuries don't come with normal recovery timelines. When the headaches stop is step number one. Number two is when the player can start working out and practicing again and hopefully the headaches don't come back again because if they do the player is back to square one again. It's like some people don't understand how serious these injuries really can be. We have the recent examples of Marc Staal and Michael Sauer. Staal had at least a couple setbacks. Sauer had one setback after another and his career at this point in time appears to be over.

The Rangers medical staff have actually been quite good making sure their players are not rushed back from these injuries. The Rangers do have some history of trading for players with serious concussion problems--one being Lafontaine and another being Lindros. Neither worked out really well. If anyone needs a primer on how not to treat a player with these head injuries--Lindros's Philadelphia Flyers would be a great example of a team doing the absolute wrong thing over and over again. Lindros for several years was the NHL's premier forward. His career was considerably shortened because Bobby Clarke is an idiot and the Flyers medical staff allowed Clarke to push them over and over again to rush Eric back into their lineup. For those who never saw Lindros in his prime--he had Crosby like skill and Malkin like size and he was much nastier to play against than Ovechkin and he could even throw them with practically anyone in the league and the NHL that Lindros played in was a tougher league than it is today.

"@EricStaal: Ya know, Nash is a hell of a player. It's tough to see this caliber player with a concussion ya know. He's my national teammate so I'm rooting for him, ya know"

Nash has a concussion.

I think it's safe to assume that everyone and their mother thinks nash has a concussion. On the account of being hit in the head and all

Unless it's a groin concussion, then we're in trouble.

You can predict that the way that Callahan plays the game will eventually break his body down.

I don't think Callahan is a player that you give an 8 year contract to. I wouldn't give that type of contract to Girardi either.

Callahan has logged some tough minutes in his career and there is some concern that it could catch up to him like it did with Drury. He's never had a season where he's been completely healthy and players usually get more susceptible to injuries as they get older.

5 years at 5.3M per sounds good to me

Didn't Dru have a knee disease? Can anyone provide some information on this? I googled around but didn't find anything definitive in any way.

I understand the rangers never give out injury info but this ghost protocol non sense with nash is getting dumb. At least report if the guy might come back this week.

You don't know with a concussion. He could wake up tomorrow fine or we could not see him again for months. This isn't something like a broken bone where there's a timeline for a recovery.

giving cally an 8 year deal is a disaster waiting to happen. its always an injury here or there witj him, hes always missing games
