I'm a little surprised Noreau goes down to Greenville. He'll get good minutes though, and can work on adjusting to the speed of the pro game.

St. Croix is a disappointment. Not a surprise, but a disappointment.

For me its a bit disappointing, I basically not seen him play, but I expected a bit more at least. But boy has he looked weak away from the puck...

St Croix is a top-6 forward. He can not play in the bottom-6. He needs big minutes on the PP and top-6 time. He was not going to get that in Hartford right now with depth they have currently. Good move to get him there to play a lot. Same with Noreau.

Wonder if St. Croix to ECHL just says something about the depth at forward for the Wolf Pack. I hope it's wanting him to get some top line minutes and not him sucking it up.

That's probably a big part of it. MSC has the skill to play at the highest level, but his decision making isn't up to speed yet. He's overwhelmed and needs to be started off slowly. Half a year in the ECHL should be good for him.

Why couldn't he win a spot as a top-two center? I mean, the list of guys in front of him isn't terribly impressive. Brodie Dupont (who doesn't even have a contract yet), Kyle Jean (sucks), Oscar Lindberg (also a rookie), Darrol Powe (not necessarily even a center for Hartford). He can't compete with those guys? As I said earlier, I don't think it bodes well for him.

Having MSC start in the ECHL may be a good idea. Gives him ice time and the ability to move to the pros in an easier way that doesn't beat up on his confidence. It's better that he blames the coaches for unfairly demoting him than that he blames himself for struggling in the few AHL minutes he'd get.

I'd hope he listens to his coaches and attempts to improve based on their recommendations, rather than blaming anyone for starting in the ECHL.

Surprised to see Nicholls go down as well - liked what I saw of him in camp. I'm thinking it's similar to St. Croix's situation where Hrivik, Jean, Kreider, Kristo, Lindberg, Yogan and perhaps even Powe and Bourque are all ahead of him for top 6 slots, so they sent him down to play on the top line in the ECHL.

Demoting Powe, Haley, Syvret and Johnson had me wondering whether the 'Pack would have issues due to the AHL 'veterans rule' which limits having too many 'very experienced' pro players dressed for AHL games

It seems their roster is pretty good in this way,
if/when they play the 5 Ranger property vets,
they just can't dress both
Brodie DuPont (if they sign him, and he's been consistently productive in the Exhibition games)
and Andrew Carroll.
We'd want at least 8 real prospects playing Forward any way.

and an un-official description of the rule is included with URL where i found it:

Methinks that Yogan may center the 2nd line until Miller comes back and even may stick on the second. He hung around camp longer than i thought he would, the coached liked what they saw and maybe he's grown up a bit.

Tomorrow I am doing a full team analysis using the season opening roster. This is a darn good team folks. The boards should be excited for the season after the players get used to skating together.

The 4 guys they have listed as centers--Lindberg, Powe, Jean and Dupont. I can see Lindberg taking one top 6 role. I'm not sure about the other. That could be a potential weak spot. Other than that it looks to be a strong team.

Yogan might be able to handle it and maybe even Dupont--though Dupont was never a big point producer in the AHL. With Kreider, Hrivik, Kristo on the wings the Wolfpack should have some decent lines but they'll need someone to get them the puck.

Powe has NHL credentials but he's never been a big producer at any pro level. Haley is a 30-35 point guy--both of them are 4th liners in the NHL. I don't know what to think of Jean after he disappeared for months.

Kristo has had the rep of being a bit of a puck hog. Whether it's still true is another thing but I think we're missing something here. St. Croix might get a call up before too long. Not to get me wrong I think there is a lot of potential from this team but it's also a bit green as far as top talent.

Hrivik has proven he is a good AHL scorer. Mashinter and Haley score pretty well in the AHL. Kreider started to come on last year. Same with Yogan. Lindberg scored in the SEL and Kristo scored in the NCAA. At some point you have to let the kids take over. Powe will help as well.
