Whereas, i made a cynical comparison between Jessiman anf Esposito, really no reason to gloat over the misfortune of a kid in his early 20s whose dream is slipping away from him. Karma.

It sticks with you when posters attack you when you're trying to objectively analyze a situation. ironically it happened to me when I said the Big Brich looked like trash last year and certain people went into attack mode. Of course it's harder to gloat about that seeing as how it tanked our team. Eh it's pretty much the default with people due to internet anonymity but the mods posted about it yesterday so hopefully they crack down on it. But you're right these are guys just doing a job and it's a case where you wish we were always wrong about them busting out. It's funny he didn't have the motivation but he;'s still doing it all these years later. Think maybe A.E. has some regrets. Could have worked a little harder & made twice as much money in just a year on an NHL salary

AHL 'veterans rule'

Demoting Powe, Haley, Syvret and Johnson had me wondering whether the 'Pack would have issues due to the AHL 'veterans rule' which limits having too many 'very experienced' pro players dressed for AHL games

It seems their roster is pretty good in this way,
if/when they play the 5 Ranger property vets,
they just can't dress both
Brodie DuPont (if they sign him, and he's been consistently productive in the Exhibition games)
and Andrew Carroll.
We'd want at least 8 real prospects playing Forward any way.

if my info is accurate, these are the guys affected,
and an un-official description of the rule is included with URL where i found it:

> 320 Powe Johnson Haley Syvret Dupont(AHL try-out)

260 > <320 Mashinter Carroll(AHL contract)

[Bickel comes in a few games under at 246]

"...the veteran rule states that 12 of those players must have played fewer than 260 regular season pro games. Of the remaining 6, one of those must have played fewer than 320 regular season pro games. Of the remaining 5 at that point, there are no restrictions on how many games have been played. All measures are taken at the beginning of the season and don't change as the season goes on."

Dupont and Klassen probably earned spots with the AHL team.

As they should. Both are good AHL Players. Hard to figure out who actually plays though...

F's:
St Croix, Kristo, Kreider, Hrivik, Mashinter, Haley, Yogan, Nicholls, Kantor, Dupont*, Bourque, Powe, Lindberg, Jean, Wilson (ECHL?), Carrol (ECHL?)

Defense is even more crowded:
Bickel, McIlrath, Allen, Syvret, Johnson, Noreau, Hughes, Dodero, Klassen

Pack should be relatively competitive this year. Lots of young talent trying to pave their road to the NHL.

besides Dodero and Carroll, others on 'Pack deals already include
F Andrew Rowe 4th yr pro, ex Flyer property, very likely Greenville bound
D Mike Marcou (2d yr pro, last yr w Greebville, ex-UMass teammate of Connor Allen and Danny Hobbs)
D Brendon Nash (Cornell 2010) has never played below AHL as a pro, has 2 NHL games.

Not that I see the need, but other 'Pack try-outs they might sign to AHL deals, or recall later on PTO if they have openings, are:
Shawn 'ODonnell who's played well as a 2-way wing, including a NYR preseason game, already signed with ECHL San Diego
and Greenville property Brandon Hynes, small rookie scoring wing out of the Q, which would be similar to the recent previous signings of Marchessault and Tessier

On defense, I'd guess that Hughes and Dodero go down to Greenville to start.

I know there are always injuries in the AHL to d-men but that seems like a lot of pretty good players, no? Definitely more depth than we have seen in a long time down there.

Same goes for forwards.

Hughes has seemed more ready than Noreau, some fans think he's a fringe player as he wasn't drafted, but he earned lots of tough minutes with one of the best teams and organizations in junior hockey, including top time into 2 Memorial Cups

maybe they send Noreau or St.Croix back for overage in Junior given this depth? - that topic is raised at the Prospects thread

I'd start the HWP season with 2-3 extra F's and 3 extra D,
not including Jean, who's obviously hurt, they haven't said so, but he hasn't played since first TC game

F: Powe, Haley, Mashinter, Kreider, Lindberg, Kristo, Hrivik, Yogan, Bourque, Nicholls, St. Croix, (Dupont), Carroll(AHL), Wilson(maybe, its now or never for him, Kantor is the only other rugged W prospect)

D: Syvret, Johnson, Bickel, McIlrath, Nash(AHL), Allen, Noreau, Hughes, (Klassen)

Demoted:
F: Rowe(AHL), Kantor, (O'Donnell) (Hynes)
D: Marcou(AHL), Dodero(AHL)

Other try-outs - F's Arnold, Ambrosie, Kirzinger, D Lepine probably get released as soon as today now that yesterday's NYR assignees are now in camp

I'm a little surprised Noreau goes down to Greenville. He'll get good minutes though, and can work on adjusting to the speed of the pro game.

St. Croix is a disappointment. Not a surprise, but a disappointment.

Figured Noreau would go Greenville when he was sent down and Hughes went to Banff. Let him get 40 games down there and if there's any movement in NY or HFD, he can finish out the year with the Pack. Probably the right development path for a project type d-man. Disappointed that St. Croix will start down there.

Don't understand the Klassen release. He was a very good, steady presence on defense last year. The only defenseman who we could rely on to do the job shift in and shift out. Don't like it at all.

St. Croix going to the ECHL is a disappointment, let's hope he lights it up and comes back up with a top-9 role in Hartford.

Wonder if St. Croix to ECHL just says something about the depth at forward for the Wolf Pack. I hope it's wanting him to get some top line minutes and not him sucking it up.

Sweater numbers for the new Hartford prospects:

5 Tommy Hughes
11 Michael Kantor
16 Oscar Lindberg
22 Conor Allen
29 Danny Kristo

New numbers for returning prospects:

6 Andrew Yogan
8 Dylan McIlrath
