Mash doesn't really provide much scoring. Maybe size and a two-way presence. It won't hurt, but we won't be getting a massive offensive inflow with his return.

Hope Kantor stays in the lineup and someone else sits when Mash is back.

He's been playing well?

Yeah--you have to kind of ignore the Bridgeport announcer. The last two punches are by Gallant--the first skims off of Dylan's helmet as he's ducking away and Gallant moving in at the same time kind of knocks him off balance--that's why he falls and then the last punch glances off his shoulder or maybe not. It didn't land to the side of the head. Basically it's Gallant as Joe Frazier--smaller guy who wants to turn everything into a brawl and McIlrath as Muhammed Ali--taller guy wanting to pick off the other guy and avoid getting really tagged. The fight was a draw.

More or less the Johnson fight was a draw with maybe Johnson a slight edge. It was hard to tell what was landing and what was not. Considering that McIlrath had already once in the same period Johnson had that to his advantage as well.

Yep I pretty much agree.

They were winning when they had so much talent that they couldn't NOT win.

Now, with Talbot, Miller and of course Kreider called up, they have less talent, but they still have what should be a very competitive roster and they're not even competing. I watched the 2nd period last night and it's not the goaltending - Stajcer looked fine for the AHL (Kincaid BTW looked very good). I couldn't for the life of me figure out what system they were trying to play - it looked like some mutant ******* child of Torts' system and AV's.

For the umpteenth time - Gernander has got to go.

Kinkaid was very good last week in Hartford. This team is in a rut, it happens all the time in the AHL. I remember two years ago they went winless in January (I think).

And why is Asham playing first line minutes with the Lindergs and Hriviks of the team? At least, he was in the last game I saw. Pointless.

They won't fire Gernander if they think he has done a good job at making certain players NHL ready. But if they've lost faith in that, then yeah, I think he might be done soon.

Brief notes from yesterday's game:

Stajcer played very well in the first period, but gave up a goal in the second. Not a terrible goal, it was the result of Jean being spun, leading to a turnover that was a partial breakaway, and the quick wrist shot just above the pad went in.

McIlrath just leveled a guy in the second period. Looked like the other guy got hit by a car, just went flying on his back without even having the chance to spread his arms or move in any way.

After the Pack had a couple of good shifts, Devils score another one on a pass from right to left where Stajcer couldn't do much. Easy tap in.

Yogan sucker punches a Devil in a scrum.

Jean takes a penalty, but an excellent PK, almost scoring at the end.

Backhanded tap-in on a PP by Albany. 3-0.

Asham got a pass right in front of the Devils net, on the border of the crease, but shot it over the net.

Not sure Stajcer has quick-enough reflexes to ever play in the NHL.

Allen plays every game like a veteran.

Haley robbed by Kinkaid's glove.

Pack shut out again.

Anyone seen him play lately. hows his development coming along? how has he played?

People need to read the thread instead of doing the lazy thing and expect others to say the sand thing over and over again when a new person shows up. This thread has more commentary on McIlrath than anyone else.

Hope we get video of this.

They really miss Fast and Miller. Fast is hopefully back around Christmas. Miller maybe after this road trip for the Rangers.

How does that justify 4 shutouts in 5 games? Will Fast score a hat trick all by himself every game to put them in position to win games?

Yeah I don't think any one player is saving them from that. Talk about awful turn-around. Unacceptable.

My early season thoughts on which Hartford players on two-way contracts to re-sign:

1. Danny Kristo (RFA): Definitely.

2. Kyle Jean (RFA): Maybe, let's see how he progresses this year..

3. Michael Haley (UFA): Yes, but he probably won't do it.

4. Ryan Bourque (RFA): Only to an AHL deal. Not progressing enough to earn a two-way contract.

5. Brandon Mashinter (RFA): No. Similar players can be had on AHL contracts.

6. Jason Wilson (RFA): Not even close. He can't even hold up in the ECHL. He's a third liner in the CHL.

7. Aaron Johnson (UFA): Yes.

8. Stu Bickel (UFA): Yes.

9. Danny Syvret (UFA): Only on AHL deal, not two-way.

10. Scott Stajcer (RFA): Probably yes, unless he collapses.

11. Jason Missiaen (RFA): No, doesn't look to be a real prospect.

This would clear 5-6 contracts for the Rangers.

Is it better to trade bourque for for a pick or goalie prospect at this point?

Kristo is a definite. I think Haley thought he'd get more of an NHL chance than he's got. Think he'll leave as well. Jean, Bourque, Wilson, Missiaen--pretty much done. Mashinter, Syvret and Stajcer are maybes. Try to get Johnson and Bickel back. Bickel I'm thinking is going to try his luck somewhere else.

You'd be lucky to get a 7th rounder for Bourque. He's only going to be a RFA eligible minor leaguer for someone else at this point.

Hoping Boston might take him with a pick for Jordan Caron.
