If we lose Stralman, do you think McIlrath could be a viable replacement, or is that playing with fire?

lol no.

Klein would have to be Stralman's (worse) replacement.

McIlrath should be on the bottom pair, if anything, for now.

Almost everyone on our team is replaceable. Losing Boyle doesn't spell impending doom.

I'd be unhappy to see Boyle leave. He does so much good out there, lots of the small details that get overlooked because he doesn't score lots of goals. He's a reliable guy that can play in any situation. Every coach in this league would want a guy like that. And he's pretty good faceoff guy too. It would be very hard to replace a guy like that. I'm not assuming he's a goner though. I think we'll find a way to re-sign him.

I think the Brassard / Poo/ Zucc line is critical to sign. Mac & Hank are locked up, and we can build around that very nicely even if we lose some big guys like Boyle & Stralman

There are like 7 players in the NHL who are irreplaceable.

Just because they aren't irreplaceable, that doesn't make it easy to replace them. Boyle and Moore are FAR above average 4th liners. Will be definitely difficult to replace.

Side effect of a deep playoff run is that our free agents are put on tryout exhibition for 29 other teams. Impossible to fly under the radar

If Sather learned how to negotiate extensions in-season with important players, ala Boyle, D. Moore, Stralman, Zucc, etc, we wouldn't be in this predicament, at least to this extent.

Wouldn't mind dealing with growing pains with McIlrath. A 3rd pairing of him and Moore scares the bejeezus out of me though.

Maybe. I'd be fine with bringing back Diaz and seeing what McIlrath or Allen can bring to the 3RD spot next season.

I'm fine with either of them on 3RD but no one they have right now can replace Stralman. He is crucial to this team and how they play.

Anyone who watched the Rangers in the Torts years, knows that having a valuable, talented 4th line, is not an easy thing.

Bickel-Newbury-Haley

Not sure what kind of bigger role Boyle expects to get and succeed in. The one he had this year was just about perfect for him. He can't really be counted on for any offense at all

Precisely.

Saying "they're replaceable though" doesn't make it any better. Sure they're replaceable, but how many ****ing years has it taken this team to have a good 4th line? Like 20?

That goal he scored in game 5 gave him confidence and now he wants to dangle in the top-6 somewhere sniping the corners all day err day.

Brion Buoyul, pls

If you have Kevin Klein, John Moore and Dylan McIlrath in your top-six, you're gonna have a bad time.

That would be the most horrifying thing of all-time

Nah, the Del Zotto-Bickel pairing in 2012 made me cringe every time they took a shift. The title belongs to them. If McIlrath makes the team, I would jumble up the pairings a bit.

McD-Girardi
Staal-McIlrath
Moore-Klein

I don't mind Stralman asking for money, he's been playing on a series of small deals and finally got some recognition for the work he does, he deserves a bigger contract.

TBH I'd probably try to keep Stralman and trade Klein

We had a hard time replacing the players we lost in 2012. Hopefully the organization has learned its lesson and won't be relying on players like Pyatt and Powe to fill the void in the bottom 6 if Boyle is a goner.

McIlrath is not ready.

Allen is far more ready then he is. Replacing Stralman with either of those guys is horrible.

Diaz/Allen/McIlrath are the viable options to fill the finals RD spot.

I think NYR will be hesitant to play a rookie with John Moore, so Diaz re-signing is certainly possible, as is adding another cheap veteran.

Staal wants a new contract but ends the thought by saying "if not, it's not the end of the world"...

All these other guys around him talking about their desire to stay with the Rangers. At the end of the day it's all words and they're saying all the right things... but reading that Staal said that makes me believe he's ok with moving on from the club, as well.

Seems like the boat is sailing on him, too.

Staal wants to be a top pairing Dman. McD came in and overshadowed him. He should be moved as soon as possible so that they can get something for him to help with a push next season.

Just have to get creative. Even if it means trading others after guys are re-signed. Over pay if you have to, we cannot lose any assets for nothing considering we are in a 3 year period of no first round picks.

Overpay Boyle, can always move him 2 years down the line. Pay Stralman and move Klein. We cannot let guys leave for nothing. We have to stop losing assets.
