If that is our center depth going into next year, boy are we in trouble.

Yup.. Need to upgrade on Bozak and should not be quick to get rid of Bolland, hes a quality NHL center with all the intangibles you want your young players to pick up on.

Stastny
Bozak
Bolland/or Kadri(depending if traded)
McClement

That puts us in a better position at center. Holland could be an injury fill in at center and play wing if he makes the club. I wouldn't be handing him any spot on the roster unless he shows hes earned it. Guy was invisible that last couple months. If he steals a spot, we trade someone off or keep him at wing.

Yah... I dunno, I mean, couldn't really hurt, but I'd like to see youth fill those roles. I don't see Malholtra doing more than McClement did.

Well, We don't have anyone on the Marlies that are ready and suited for the 4th line and Jmac will probably be looking for a raise. MM could be had for league min.

Hey! I forgot about Smithson!:handclap::handclap::handclap:

Three UFAs so that's around $18M worth of C right there with Bolland. $11-$12M going to the third line.

Yikes

If Holland doesn't make the team expect a pittance in return for him. Terrible asset management. DN really overestimated his team when he acquired him.

Why doesn't Nonis sign Paul Stastny?

Paul Stastny had 60 points this year for Colorado, he's a Center, under age 30, and he's an Unrestricted Free Agent over the summer. He is currently making 6.6 million a year, it might take an $8 million a year contract to get him but if the Leafs don't re-sign Kulemin and Bolland they should have enough cap space for a big signing.

Since when is Stastny a number 1 or number 2 defenceman? News to me, but great if true! Exactly what this team needs.

The Leafs need a number one Center also.

So the Leafs collapse and failures are attributed to the center ice position? I guess Bozak didn't do well offensively this year nor defensively? His linemates struggled with him in the middle this year? First line didn't produce offensively enough?

I totally agree. Just not at any cost.

Most hes getting is 4 Mil... no team is gonna pay Bolland more then that if he tests waters... We could probably get him for a 3.7 cap hit... He hasnt proven to put up numbers no one will pay that for him.. Maybe Florida but the guy wants to win.

Its not that its just we need more talent up the middle of the ice... The middle of the ice is the most important real estate on the ice and you need someone who can make plays up the middle. We also could just use more talent in our top six considering we dont have a Crosby like superstar we need every player in our top six to be talented.. Bottom line Bozak is just not very offensively gifted even though hes a smart opportunistic hockey player.

Im hoping we can somehow get Niklas Backstrom or Couture or trade up to draft Sam Bennet.

Two great examples of using their youth and coming out fantastic are detriot and lightning (8 players up from calder win 2 years ago).

Edmonton and perhaps florida could be examples of where it wasnt good ?

I think we have the right prospects to male up a team in whole positionally that would make their contributions positive, wouldnt expect any to put up great points, but could help on the two way game and maybe have bottom lines that could play hard minutes against top 6.

Stastny would be great, but kadri would be gone, and cap life would get that much harder.

Prior to the Leafs end of season collapse, the Leafs were one of the highest scoring teams in the NHL, and have held that status for a couple of years now. Scoring more goals is the cure here I gather. Apparently the Leafs have very good goaltending, cans score with the best of the, yet cannot win games?

Let bolland walk, I'm serious about this.

Nonis traded valuable picks and blacker for Peter Holland, and honest to god holland looked good the games randy gave him ice time (10+ mins). Holland is the perfect person to replace Bolland, cheap, good on faceoffs (better than bolland), has a decent 2 way game, good offensive instincts. This guy can develop into a low end #2C or high end #3C, its time to get him into the big club. People that watch the marlies always say that Holland is one step above every AHL player, he needs to be able to make that transition to the NHL sooner rather than later.

Ya i agree defense is the main issue but i just would personally like to see a 1st line center who is a premier playmaker... Bozaks not bad and is worth every cent of his cap hit i personally like the guy but a top C would do wonders for the team.. agreed that our blue line is first priority though...

When looking at our blue line.. We have Rielly and Gards who we should NOT trade, both of them are tremendous skaters have very good hands and have great vision and can make really nice plays... Both of them have a tremendous skillset and the size and smarts to improve into great two way d men.. Theres only two things these guys arent great at... They arent very physical and there points shots are mediocre...This is why Dion fits so well with our blue line he makes up for that being very physical and having a great point shot. Franson is just too slow and isnt a top 4 NHL d man also is a pretty bad breakout passer.

We need to add the final piece to the top 4 of Gards Rielly and Phaneuf...We need a guy whos mobile to complete our identity of a quick blue line, but also is physical and can move the puck with a good point shot...

Bogosian would be the perfect add, really good skater and a big man who can move the puck quite well. He has had a lot of growing pains in the NHL but he seems to have cleaned up his game, hes a RHD which is exactly what we need..

Rielly and Phaneuf can both play right side.. so we would look like this:

Left side Right side
Rielly Phaneuf
Gardiner Bogosian

the top 4 is most imporant.. Gunner-Granberg would be our bottom pairing and would be VERY good. But we also have Finn and Percy coming up who could fill bottom 6 roles for cheap down the road.

What would it take to get Bogosian? I dont know.. I honestly would hesitate to trade Kadri hes a great 2nd line Center and has way more talent then he gets credit for.
Kadri for Bogosian would be a mistake... But Bogo would help out top 4 a lot and we would have a nice blue line moving forward.

Franson Reimer 1st round pick for Bogo??? Maybe Winnipeg does it but they would probably like Lupul Reimer 1st round pick a lot better.
I really would not want to move our 1st round pick either so maybe i would give them the 2015 1st round pick. Either way Bogo would be a guy i go after hard to complete our top 4 even though with our history it would be really hard giving up a 1st round pick.

I wouldn't trade either Kadri or our 1st for Bogosian.

We need to keep our young players and draft picks. Take our time, and develop our players.

I'd move or let go Bolland, Franson, Gunnarson, Kulemin, Orr, Lupul, Clarkson, Gleason. Obviously not all those guys would be gone, some have no value or their contracts are unmovable.

Tough call on Stastny. He's going to want to get paid. Not a legit 1st line center. Would be by default here. I like the fact that he has chemistry with JVR and Kessel. I'd give him 7 million. Any more and he can beat it.

JVR - Stastny - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - XXXX
XXXX - Bozak - Clarkson
XXXX - McClement - XXXX

Our defence needs work as well. Our entire right side is junk. Do you move Gardiner? Capitalize on his good play to end the year? Do we keep him and hope that his play continues?

Phaneuf -XXXX
Rielly - XXXX
Gardiner? - XXXX

Not a strong d. Needs improvement.

Im starting to like more and more a trade with Washington...Mike Greens name is starting to be mentioned as caps look to retool...A Phaneuf-Green trade!!! Tor adds whatever needs to be added (kulemin to play with Grabo).
We get a RHD that can help Gardiner and Rielly. Green has one more year on his contract so if he doesnt play elite like in the past then we can trade during season or let walk and make our Cap situation allot better!! (maybe use to try and get a top 3 pick next year?? at trade deadline). Green is def an upgrade to Phaneuf at a better contract!!

I Like this:

Bernier

Rielly-Green
Gardiner-Gunnerson
Gleason-Franson.....I think its a good start

Mike Green is not what this team needs. And i like Mike Green.

What this team needs to do is decide if they are keeping Nonis and Carlyle. Once that has been figured out, they can get players to fit that system. If Carlyle is staying, moves need to be made to accommodate.

well we don't defende so we might as well score lol. Rielly is relliable, Gunnerson can help Gerdiner or else trade gunner for a defensive

and gleason and franson are both really good 5-6 dmen I think with franson helping the powerplay. Rielly and Gardiner are our future apparently so lets get it going, they can play, lets hope they learn with their mistakes.

Is Phaneuf suppose to be our defensive D?? I hate that future!!!
