That’s his game. Always has been and is one of the reasons he’s on his 6th team. It’s gotten him paid handsomely and I don’t blame him one bit. I really don’t want him being the next whipping boy on this board.

It’s the people that should have known better than to sign him for stupid term/money and give him an NTC that I have the problem with…
We wouldn't have gotten him then.

Would Carlo ever fight an opponent if they boarded a teammate?

So then we don’t get him. Big deal.

I sometimes think people would rather have players who can beat people up instead of win hockey games.

Yeah, he dropped em with Benn and punched him in the helmet a couple of times. Made the fan base happy and had 0 impact on the outcome.

That’s why hockey fans love him and GMs pass him along like a hot potato…..except for ours.

I like Zaddy, but I just mean how can he not be taught to reign it in better? It really shouldn't be that hard

Hell baby
Outside of Lindholm, he's the least of our problems on D this year.
He’s been their 3rd best defenseman imo

Now that’s not necessarily a good thing- especially since it’s not like he’s playing great or anything. But he’s been better than Carlo, Lohrei, etc etc

He takes annoying penalties- which wouldn’t be as much of an issue if the PK actually did their job- but he’s also the only player with a set on this team most nights

I was not against his signing, but I am now hearing that he is a great guy, great teammate, but not receptive to coaching, and if that should be true, there might be your answer with his growth as a player.

I think if you're making this argument, it means their defense as a whole has collectively underperformed.

In terms of the on ice performance, I'd absolutely disagree. He's taken so many bad penalties and left the team in bad spot after bad spot given their struggles on the PK. But the really interesting part is how many give aways he's had, especially when you contrast it with the amount of takeaways. It's a negative 21 differential. worst on the defense. He gives the puck up like it's his job, which it's not, and he doesn't get anyone on the opposing team to turn it over, which is his job.

He's also grossly overpaid. Money that should have been used to fill the top 6 hole at wing. But I digress... :naughty:

Lol has this team shown they can play hockey and win games?

No

I think that’s absolutely what’s happened, in an ideal world he would be their 5th best defenseman with McAvoy/Hampus/Carlo/Lohrei all being better than him. Unfortunately I don’t think that’s been the case most nights so far

And that might have been the first fight where he got the better of the other guy. And I am not sure he even really wanted to go with Benn. It looked like he planned to just get in his face and then Benn forced the fight.

Z does his best defending when you tell him who to cover, always did a great job for us against Western conference top guys.
Interesting. That lends credence to the theory that the reason he has always been a third pairing dman even though he has top 4 physical tools is that he can’t process the game fast enough and makes bad coverage and pinching decisions.

If you tell him to isolate on one guy, he can do that well.

I always liked the job he did for us against mcdavid.

His defensive coverage is so brutal at this point he's a complete liability on the back-end. Just put him on LW on the 4th line and send him in on the forecheck trucking people. That's all he's good for. He's not even a deterrent. Was on the ice when Benn cheap-shotted Carlo. Yeah Zadorov responded but I thought the point of his toughness and presence was to deter the cheap-shot to begin with.

Maybe it's time we all just admit fighting doesn't deter anything in the NHL anymore.

Agree that big, tough fighters don't deter anything. Not sure that they ever did.

But disagree about Zadorov's defensive play. Compared to the rest of the B's D, he's not bad at all.

Giveaways:

Lindholm - 30
Zadorov - 23
McAvoy - 22
Carlo - 21
Lohrei -21
Peeke -20

Doesn't seem like his giveaways are comparably bad.

He doesn't have takeaways because he has way more hits than his fellow Dmen. That's how he gets possession for the team. Doesn't take it away but separates the man from the puck. Consider he has 54 hits and Lindholm has 5.

So Zadorov is definitely doing his turning over the puck for the team.

His hits take him badly out of position, leading to chances on the bruins goal. You can pretend he’s been good if you want, but he hasn’t been. At all.

How'd he look last night to you? How many goals against was he on the ice for again? They f***ed up and wasted way too much money and term on a very limited depth player. That's simple truth.
About as good as the 18 other guys on the ice
