NYI is kind of damned if you do damned if you don't right now because of that Vanek deal. This will address two birds with one stone for them.

If the leafs trually think leadership is the problem and want to make a statement they get rid of Phaneuf. Toilet your young guns develop in a new system. They get a high pick in a weak draft and a good d prospect.

well we don't defende so we might as well score lol. Rielly is relliable, Gunnerson can help Gerdiner or else trade gunner for a defensive

and gleason and franson are both really good 5-6 dmen I think with franson helping the powerplay. Rielly and Gardiner are our future apparently so lets get it going, they can play, lets hope they learn with their mistakes.

Is Phaneuf suppose to be our defensive D?? I hate that future!!!

I guess if allowing more shots against, and less defensive play is the goal. then this will work out just fine.

lol well this is all assuming these 2 young pups actually turn into elite d-men.

What looks good to me is these 2 get top 4 minutes, if we dotn want Green we can trade him or let him walk (relieve cap) AND if we let more shots on net and less defensive then we draft a #1C iin 2015 draft with top 2 picks...

3 REALLY GOOD POINTS FOR ME

And by the way Stasny isnt staying in Colorado for sure. If your watchign this McKinnon kid play they are making room for him to play top 2 lines at C...wow what a player!! jealous of Colarado...2 super young C's Duschene and McKinnon, young Johnson is killing at D ad love Patrick Roy...I think Ive found my new team!!

I have no doubt the Avalanche will welcome new fans wholeheartedly.

Byfuglien + Ladd for Phaneuf + Lupul

I wonder if Winnipeg would be interested, and if so, who has to add?

Phaneuf is not going to get traded. It's more likely we trade for a partner for him rather than move him. No chance he's traded IMO.

The thread has nonsense in the title for a reason.

I think the more likely situation is you see Lupul traded for a vet dman that's overpaid, is solid in the defensive end, and can provide 21-22 mins a night on our 2nd pairing.

Something that would result in our defense looking like:

Gardiner-Phaneuf
Rielly/Vet-Rielly/Vet
Gunnarson-Gleason
Ranger

You are probably right. The media really has taken the leadership thing and made it more than it is.

I do however expect something to happen that is unexpected based on Leiwieke, etc comments. Especially saying how they have guys like lowry and bradley on other teams.

I would say you are dead wrong. One of Kessel or Dion will get traded this offseason, and my guess is it's Dion.

Watching this kid MacKinnon play for Colorado.... I pray leafs management sees the value in obtaining high picks.

looks about even. both teams trade their captains and this shakes-up both teams for next season.

Phaneuf > Buff

Ladd > Lupul

i'd do it just as you proposed.

Most Winnipeg fans would likely see this as Buff >= Dion, Ladd >= Lupul....we'd probably have to add. I'd toss in Reimer and call it a deal.

I promise you, you are wrong. And Phaneuf isn't worth a high pick. No team in the top 5 would trade their pick for him.

How can you promise such a thing? Did you watch the Shanny interviews? Have you heard the rumours about unrest in the dressing room and widespread sentiment that management has to make the leaders of this team accountable for their play? Do you even know who Tim Leiweke is?

Wait, were you one of those guys that said 'to hell with advanced stats, as long as we're winning'?

No I'm not one of those. I've criticized this team even when they were winning but playing lousy. I can promise it won't happen because I know it won't happen. Only way I see him traded is if Nonis gets canned and I don't think he will be; if he was he wouldn't be there with Shannahan at the conference.

You guys need to accept reality. Phaneuf won't be traded. Not under Nonis.

Surely you mean to say you think it won't, despite the signs of a major move. Technically, you can't promise anything, after all. Your opinion is only reality in your mind, after all.

Noticed that Orpik will be a UFA this offseason. Surprised I am not seeing more interest in him from the board? Seems like the exact Dman we could use.

Pens fans seem to be very dissatisfied with him this season... he's apparently taken a step back. Could just be an off year, but the warning signs might be there for a bad investment.

Staple came out with a few tweets about Snow's goalie wish list. Staple's pretty credible.

He tweeted that Holtby tops the list, followed by Hiller, then Reimer., then Ward. He also tweeted about interest in Halak. I am guessing they are waiting to see if the Caps keep Halak and move Holtby.

I do not understand the interest in Ward. He's had too many injuries, been to ineffective to make him appealing.

Many shutdown guys with questionable lateral movement are struggling with the speed of the game nowadays. No Orpik isnt a total plug when it comes to the skating side but he has routinely been caught flat footed alot the past few years. Guys like he, Regehr, Schenn etc arent nearly as effective going forward and wont be nearly as coveted.

At$6.25 per, he basically has negative value at this point in his career.
