Very good news! Hopefully he gets the call very soon, im sure he will.

People here need to stop crapping on this kid, who has done nothing but improve since he was drafted. You haven't seen him in a year and a half, in which time he has grown bigger, stronger, tougher, with better offense and defense. Edmonton fans are reporting very good things about him, not just in terms of offense, but defense and dirty areas as well. This honor just confirmed that he has had a very good year.

He had nearly 200 points the last 2 seasons and over 300 in his junior career.

Lets see how he does in Hartford next year, but lay off him for now. The kid is a good prospect.

Oh come on. I've never seen anyone crap on him. The criticism has always been that he's not strong enough on the puck, won't go to the dirty areas and isn't too interested in the defensive side of the game. Followed by something like, "He's an okay prospect but nothing special." That's been my assessment of him, and what I've seen pretty much every other poster say.

I've only seen him play a couple of times this year. Last year, I watched him a lot more. I didn't see anything in my brief viewings that looked too different from years past. Am I wrong? Possibly, I've been wrong countless times before. I'm just tempering my expectations. People thought Nigel Dawes was going to be a big time sniper at the professional level. Evgeny Grachev was a future star. Hell, even your boy JAM was going to be an NHL player this year! And he can't even crack a Columbus offense that's somehow even worse than ours.

I'm glad you like St. Croix. I think he's a decent prospect. Just keep things in perspective. He has some real flaws in his game, even with the improvements made this season. Should we only lavish praise on our prospects? That's doing no one any good.

My sentiments exactly, well said.

I guess Beacon was not here around the 2011 draft. We were pretty pleased to get him in the 4th round.

I think he lacks JAM
No JAM - no NYR career
He is by no means an expert puck dumper
Meh at blocking shots
Doubt he can play the boards grinding it out on 45 second shifts consistently
A bit too polished on the PP for my taste
We need JAM!!!!

:help:
Jams out kid lacks SANDPAPER

I hope Fast can get a chance here. It really could not hurt at this point. Sit powe, slide Boyle to the 4th line.

Fast-Miller-Kreider

Great speed there. Some real goal scoring ability from fast and kreider.

That would be one of the worst defensive lines in the NHL.

You sound like Torts. I think we need to throw a little caution to the wind. Hopefully they will have the puck alot and won't have to defend the side walls in our zone that often. Status quo isn't working. That line interests me.

I sound like Torts because, like him, I realize defense is important.

This is just not fair criticism considering that reports are coming in saying that it's no longer true. Is he a grinder? Of course not and he shouldn't try to be one. But every report from Edmonton-based fans says that he got better in these areas.

I wasn't in on the Dawes debate because I was busy starting a business from scratch at the time, so I had no time for sports. Grachev... I was the first person here to tell people to temper expectations, in part because players who slide in the draft hardly ever make it, and in part because 80 points is nothing big.

JAM is still young. He's a 21 year old kid who needs to get physically stronger. I didn't think he was ready right away, though there was hope despite the fact that he needs to get stronger. He's now in the top half a dozen in the AHL in scoring as a 21 year old sophomore. That's a good prospect and we should've signed him. Obviously he's very high risk due to his size and style of play, but it still sucks that we never signed him.

I agree that we should keep things in perspective. He's a very high risk prospect. But the problem is that it seems like people have given up on him while he's scoring ~100 points per season for the second straight year.

Fasth is the shiny new toy, while St. Croix is the unwanted stepchild of our prospect pool. And yet, both are high risk prospects. Fasth is probably a bit better as a prospect, but the constant "I don't believe in MSC" quotes from random people outside of Edmonton is just not fair.

It is, but we need to open it up a little. Wouldn't you say?

I think you have to let them open it up a little bit, yes. But putting those (3) together would be allowing teams to run all over you when that line is out there. Teams like the Isles can do that. It makes their players seem more valuable than they are. See Parenteau.

Yeah, and we had that Edmonton fan who spent all of last year telling us how awesome St. Croix was and that he would be a great AHL player this season. Where is that guy (don't answer that) and what happened to St. Croix already being a good minor pro? You refer to these reports from Edmonton fans like they're all over this thread. I don't see any. Where are you reading this? Who are these fans? Why should I put any stock into their opinions? With those questions unanswered I'm left to trust my own eyes and my own judgement. That's all.

Fasth was the shiny new toy last year. This year, he's just a really good prospect that had a really good season in a professional league playing against good competition. What is the persistent knock on him? Health. In terms of overall prospect ranking, I think they're clearly in a different tier.

But that's all beside the point. Like the kid? Great. Some of us are not so high on him. Who cares?

Sounds like Jesper will Be getting the call soon.

I know he's a pretty good offensive player, but how is he in the JAM department? Does he GRIND along the walls? Will he dive in front of shots? How about the DUMP ins? Do they show any creativity? Bad if they do. What we need is another GRINDER.

He plays RW? Better if he's a LW.

He is definitely somewhat of a grinder, or maybe more like has that side to his game too besides the rest.

Take this comment for what it is, but I don't think it's entirely off base to label him as somewhat of a Swedish Ryan Callahan.
