This gotta be good news!

Down 3-1 in games. As if that were not enough, it is uncertain whether Jesper Fasth will the game in the fifth quarterfinal in Kinnarps Arena.
- If he does not play someone else must step forward, says coach Ulf Dahlen.

Jesper Fasth was forced to leave the game in the second period of game four at Cloetta Center. He was done playing for the night, and it is still unclear if it will play in Thursday evening's must-win game in Kinnarps Arena. What Jnytt experience Fasth has struck up a knee injury.

- He is currently being explored. We'll see tomorrow if he can play, it is determined after the warming, says Ulf Dahlen after Wednesday morning's optional workout.
Fasth has formed chain with Jason Krog and Rhett Rakhshani, a formation that has been the HV71's best so far in the playoffs. The last match was Fasths place of Johan Lindström.

- If Jesper does not play someone else take his place. Someone else get a chance to step up, says Dahlen.

Certainly good news that he's not immediately being ruled out. The team would know if he had a tear or something and would certainly hold him back. Hopefully this just means a bad knee bruise or something.

Keep us updated, Ola.

Both Fasth and Lindberg are ready to make the transition. They have each played 3+ full Elitserien seasons. Lindberg - 178gp, Fasth - 105gp. We'll just have to see how they make the transition to North American hockey. I remember watching Fasth in the WJC and he is a good skater, forechecks hard, and scores some chippy goals. I think Torts will love him. Haven't seen much of Lindberg but all scouting reports say he is a solid two-way player.

Time will tell, but I'm excited for the Swedish invasion!!

This is great news. Obviously the translation make it difficult for us English-speakers to get an exact read, but the highlighted section makes me think that he's going to test it out in warmups (the "warming") and see if he can go. The same sort of thing we hear over here when guys have day-to-day bruises, strains and the like. Very, very encouraging.

You are correct in your interpretation. The Swedish word "uppvärmning" means "warmup".

:)

Yeah, I would guess at a not that severe sprain. Like, its so severe that you instantly gotta step off. The knee will swell up but you might be able to get back pretty fast or it could take a while. Its hard to tell how well the knee holds up.

Its also something the you easily re-aggrevate so to speak. If you had a sprain you need to really build up the knee before you are 100% again.

Ola - I've watched some videos of Jesper Fasth and in one of them he was getting dressed in the locker room. I noticed that he was wearing a knee brace on his left knee. Would I be correct in assuming that he has had knee issues before?

He had a really nasty freak injury some time ago. There's a video of it posted probably on the last page.

Fasth also listed in the lineups on the Live Reporting page at hockeyligan.se.

Speaking of which, I love having it up in the background while a game is on and occasionally scanning it using the automatic Google translate option in Chrome. You get gems like this:

We are extremely keen revenge, and it burns in the body, says HV71's Davidsson to C More during heating

Good to hear Fasth isn't hurt. Was hoping he could contribute to NYR come playoff time.

Too bad some fans have already traded him and labeled him "Gaborik 2.0"

Yeah, he had a minor knee injury before. Sounds alot like a sprain this time.

Fast is dressed and playing! :yo:

Yeah ;)

As someone said above though, it wouldn't be that bad if he did become Gabby 2.0. A young kid bound to score 332 goals in 751 games would always fetch a nice return in a trade if nothing else... ;)

Yeah, it does reamain to be seen if he feels "healthy" enough to go to NA instantly though if they are elminated. I recon he wouldn't have dressed tonight if it was a regular season game...

Glad he is fine and playing.
Goes to show people should not jump to conclusions.

Thanks for the updates/translations.

Forgive my ignorance about Swedish league, but would this be considered an upset?

Nah, there's only 12 teams in the SEL and the PO's have the last 3 years maybe been very competetive.

There are four teams that has a bit more money than the rest; Färjestad (2nd in the SEL), Frölunda (6th), HV71 (4th) and Linköping (5th).

These teams can afford to basically sign "2nd lineers" from the other teams and play them on their 4th line. When any of those teams really put it together, its can be very hard in the long run for any of the more poor teams to compete. And some years, its been more or less those teams dominating and upsets were rare.

But especially this year, the only team that would be a big upset if beat was Skellefteå, and maybe Färjestad. But HV71 vs Linköping should atleast have been seen as wide open before the series. Its like say SJ playing Vancouver just for example.

5-0 now. HV71 is falling apart.

Fasth is +/- 0 and has 3 SOG so far. I'm not watching the game, but he doesn't seem to be part of the problem at least.

Fasth is officially available.

I am not watching the game, but nice to see him on the ice for a goal against (eng) and a goal for late in the game. Seems like he held up for the entire game.

Fasth was heavily relied on, with 3rd most TOI on the team (20:42), 2nd among forwards. Ended the game with an even rating after being on the ice for Linköping's EN goal. 3 SOG, 3 hits (most on the team).

Final score HV71-LHC, 1-6.

The shots were 35-16. Bizarre.
