From all accounts, Andruw Jones has always been an asshat. Good riddance!

During his first year with the Dodgers, I was watching a game with a friend. She commented that Jones was awful. I immediately launched into "Jones is really good, you just don't know because all you watch is the Dodgers." About five seconds later, Jones completely Roger Dorn'd a catchable line drive. I hated Jones after that.

:laugh: looks like this one has backfired on Boras, to this date Soriano still has no teams interested

Bob Klapisch ‏@BobKlap
Told Scott Boras asked #Yankees last month if they'd consider taking Rafael Soriano back on a 1-yr deal. Request flatly denied.

That's surprising. You'd expect at least one team to be looking for a quality closer.

Which ever team signs him surrenders a draft pick to the Yankees and wanting more than he's worth (or Boras wanting more than he's worth) are two big turn offs

It's pretty disgraceful, no Biggio or Piazza

ESPN:

Bonds received just 36.2 percent of the vote, Clemens 37.6 and Sosa 12.5 in totals announced Wednesday by the Hall and the Baseball Writers' Association of America. They were appearing on the ballot for the first time and have up to 14 more years to make it to Cooperstown.

Craig Biggio, 20th on the career list with 3,060 hits, topped the 37 candidates with 68.2 percent of the 569 ballots, 39 shy of the 75 percent needed. Among other first-year eligibles, Mike Piazza received 57.8 percent and Curt Schilling 38.8

Wish Biggio/Piazza would have gotten in, but I'm glad at least they were among the highest percentage wise. Still don't think Jack Morris deserves nearly what he got, but whatever. At least the ones that don't deserve it didn't even come close to sniffing it.

Should be a bare HOF the next few years. Big Hurt next year, Randy Johnson in 2015 and Griffey in 2016 are the only first ballots I can think of. Biggio and Piazza will get in within the next couple years.

I don't care what anyone says, Bonds, Clemens et al should be in

I don't disagree, though I wouldn't vote 'outed' guys first ballot, I'd put them in after. Yeah they were cheats but they hit and pitched against other cheats too. Should we retroactively remove the pre-1920 pitchers that used the spitter, even if it was then legal?

Fair enough and agreed on the pitchers. Wasn't Gaylord Perry a notorious cheater? Unfortunately I don't think the steroid era players ever get in.

do steroids even make a pitcher better? do they make your curveball break any better? do they make it easier to find the strike zone?

Probably more than you realize. Saw a list of some of the new candidates for the next few years:

2014: Moises Alou, Armando Benitez, Sean Casey, Jose Cruz Jr, Ray Durham, Damion Easley, Keith Foulke, Eric Gagne, Tom Glavine, Luis Gonzalez, Scott Hatteberg, Jacque Jones, Todd Jones, Jeff Kent, Jon Lieber, Esteban Loaiza, Paul LoDuca, Greg Maddux, Matt Morris, Mike Mussina, Trot Nixon, Hideo Nomo, Jay Payton, Kenny Rogers, Richie Sexson, J.T. Snow, Shannon Stewart, Frank Thomas, Mike Timlin, Steve Trachsel, Jose Vidro.

2015: John Smoltz, Pedro Martinez, Carlos Delgado, Gary Sheffield, Cliff Floyd eligible 2016: Trevor Hoffman, Billy Wagner.

Obviously far from a complete list for 2015/2016. This is just what I saw Adam Rubin tweet earlier. Assuming Maddux, Glavine, and Frank Thomas get in next year. Assume Smoltz does in 2015. I think Pedro should without any doubt, but I just never know when these writers/voters want to make it all about them.

The biggest problem with selectively holding guys out (including guys who were 'never' outed like Piazza) is that you more or less have to hold everyone out now since you don't truly know. Maddux and Glavine are probably definites next year, cause they've never been linked to PED's and didn't have freakish late spikes in their careers like Clemens but if you're doing it by a guilty until proven innocent standard, how can you justify voting ANYONE in fron that era?

The hitters are going to have an even harder time than the pitchers obviously. Others said Frank Thomas, but is he even going to be a definite? Is Junior going to be a definite? He's never been linked to PED's and was popular, I suppose he has to go in at the very least but heaven forbid they put one of these guys in and later on some proof comes out they juiced, the writers look like even bigger hypocrites than they already are for trying to selectively enforce.

You could also picture if someone doesn't like one of these guys and they look like definites to go to the HOF, boom start whispering rumors about possible PED use and their candidacy will go to ****

I'm surprised that Biggio didn't get in. Piazza was borderline for a first ballot, but Biggio should definitely have been in immediately.
